6 best bird seed 1

Bird seed is a key element in attracting and feeding birds in your backyard. The type of bird seed you choose can influence the variety of birds that visit your feeders. Here are some common types of bird seeds:

  1. Black Oil Sunflower Seeds: These are a popular choice because they have a high oil content and provide a good source of energy for a wide range of bird species. Many birds, including finches, chickadees, and cardinals, enjoy black oil sunflower seeds.

  2. Striped Sunflower Seeds: Larger birds, such as jays and woodpeckers, may prefer striped sunflower seeds. They have thicker shells, which can be more challenging for smaller birds to crack open.

  3. Nyjer (Thistle) Seeds: These small, black seeds are a favorite of finches, particularly goldfinches. They are often used in specialized feeders with smaller openings.

  4. Safflower Seeds: Safflower seeds are a good option if you want to attract cardinals while deterring squirrels, as many squirrels find them less appealing.

  5. Millet: Millet is a small, round seed that is attractive to ground-feeding birds such as sparrows, juncos, and doves. It's often included in mixed bird seed blends.

  6. Mixed Bird Seed Blends: These blends typically contain a variety of seeds to attract a diverse range of birds. They are convenient and suitable for attracting different species to your feeders.

When selecting bird seed, consider the preferences of the birds in your area and the types of feeders you have. It's important to keep the seed fresh and dry to prevent mold growth, and regularly clean your feeders to maintain the health of the birds visiting your backyard.Providing a variety of seed options can help attract a diverse array of bird species, adding more enjoyment to your backyard birding experience.

Serve to your birds as dry seeds or sprouted seeds. To sprout, simply soak the seed mix immersed in water over night, and drain using a colander or sprouting trays or sprouting jars (see our other items for more info). Rinse the seeds twice over the next day. You don't want to let the sprouts grow long. Usually birds prefer sprouted seeds that are just beginning to show the tiny tails of the sprout just emerging from the seed. You can refrigerate extra sprouts to inhibit more growth and stay fresh.

User questions & answers

Question: who is going to pay 62 dollars for 1 pound of Harrisons superfine pallets
Answer: Certainly! The bulk box outside dimension is 10" 13" x 10"
Question: What's the expiration date on this bird food
Answer: These might be a bit big for a parrotlet. They are cylindrical in shape, about 1/8" in diameter and most are 1/4" long with some 1/2" long. I will say I've found these to be the only brand of pellets my DYH Amazon really likes.
Question: Is there any ''magical" ways to get my.birds to eat this food. I tried almost everything from harrisons own site except baking bird bread
Answer: The daily diet shown above, the parrot pellets are a good size for your bird. They arent really big and are perfect size pellets for Caique to hold and eat. http://lafeber.com/pet-birds/species/caique/
Question: Why is the coarse a prime item but the fine is not
Answer: I assume this is the "sell by" date.

User questions & answers

Question: Does it work with bluebird nuggets
Answer: Yes
Question: Will it work for sunflower seeds
Answer: Our mix is Sam's brand, a (40 pound bag), mostly sunflower seeds, even has broken peanuts and some fruit in the mix so sunflower seeds are no problem in ours. This feeder don't have to be removed from it's hanging place, just push the button to raise the roof and pour the seeds in. Ours is 1.5 years old and in Fla and is still fine.
Question: Doesn’t thetray get wet when it rains
Answer: The tray doesn't get wet when it rains. I have lots of birds when it rains. I like this feeder better than any other one I have had.
Question: Does it have a hook to hang it by or do I have to purchase additional item
Answer: There is a closed loop so a hook is not needed, but it really depends on where you are hanging it. The tree branch my feeder is on is very thick, so I use a hook. This is the hook I use http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HHM43W?cache=ca2fa0ab5f9026c637a6d291178931c6#ref=mp_s_a_1_1&qid=1393265549&sr=8-1 there are 2 sizes available
Question: Does the tray have holes in it so if water does get in it drips out? I'm concerned about the tray collecting water and moldy seeds
Answer: This is probably the best feeder I have for keeping seeds from getting moldy. I use it for golden safflower and it dries out quickly if it gets wet or snowed on. The tray does have plenty of holes but is shallow so sometimes there is a small amount of build up of wet seed to wipe off but very easy to do.
Question: I have a problem with morning doves eating the safflower seed that I put out for cardinals. Does anyone know if doves can sit on this feeder
Answer: Carefully wire the mesh up so that the sitting area is shorter. I did this , little by little, until I got to the height that the morning dives could NOT get on the feeder. Cardinals and smaller birds can still easily feed. Also use safflower seed which eliminates alot of unwanted birds!
Question: Is this supposed to be squirrel proof
Answer: Or.....you can put a squirrel feeder for ears of corn nearby so the squirrels have some place to feed.
Question: Does this feeder work with mixed bird seed? Or only with black oil sunflower seed
Answer: No. I only use it for black oil sunflower seed. If you use mixed bird seed then the seed will all fall out from the large holes.Several times the squirrels will climb onto the top and tilt it but the sunflower seed will not fall out. Also, it really is squirrel-proof cause the squirrels can only get one seed at a time since the top locks.I love this feeder - it is the best for all birds!
