Question:	How to fil feeder with food perky-pet
Answer:	I just buy regular bird food. I left up the top of the bird feeder and put it in. Then I put the top back down on it. I then take a piece of black electrical tape and put it around the bottom of the top. I do this because I have watched squirrels push the top of it up and over so they can get food from the top. I hope this helps you out some.

But do realize that they should be migrating South for the winter so you may not see any. Answer:	To anyone with interests to observe, feed and to protect hummingbirds, this product has major issues. Yes, it begins to rust around the two month mark from initial use. And this feeder leaks from the rubber flowers. With time the rubber flowers are turning black from moderate mold build up. Once stained with mold, it's more difficult to clean thoroughly without scrubbing the inside of the 5 feeding ports with bleach. Until Perky-Pet redesigns this feeder by addressing these three problems, I'd suggest you purchase the newer hummingbird feeders with plastic bottoms. I've replaced this feeder with the Amauras Hummingbird Feeder.
Question:	If you fill from the top what prevents the liquid from coming out of the flower ports while filling? The vacuum only exists when the top if sealed
Answer:	Excellent question! Once the nectar is poured into the bottle, it makes its way through a very small hole that will allow the base to fill up. Inside the base is a foam float that will rise up as the nectar fills. Once the base is full, the float closes off the hole, preventing the nectar from overfilling the base and pouring out.

Question:	How much does the feeder weigh
Answer:	Empty it weighs 2.36 pounds, filled with black oil sunflower seeds it weighs 4.30 pounds I see the description says it will hold 3.4 pounds of seeds. I am assuming that they are speaking of mixed bird seed. This product works exactly as described. Squirrels will swing from it occasionally. They tire of it very fast.
Question:	what types of birds can feed from this model
Answer:	We have Cardinals, Gold Finchs, House Finches, Purble Finches, Black cap Chickadees as well as a wide variety of other birds. The birds that you attract will largely depend on the feed that you use. I always use high quality feed and avoid the super market or any no name brand. I often mix my own blends such as black oil sunflower seed, safflower, and sunflower seed. I use this blend in a number of my feeders and find that it attracts a large variety of birds. Lately I have been using a quality blend that includes peanuts, sunflower kernels, safflower seeds, Pistachios, hulled pumpkin seeds and a variety of fruit pieces. This has been very well recieved by a number of birds so I continue its use. The point I am making is that to be successful in attracting birds a number of factors should be considered such as quality feed, quality feeders, clean feeders and locations that the birds feel safe to visit. This feeder is an outstanding feeder that is well made, easy to fill and clean and a joy to use. It is also enjoyable to watch the squirrels try and fail to get at the seed. I highly recommend any of the feeders from this brand. I have a number of different models from them and they all outperform other feeders. I think that you will be very pleased with your purchase and will enjoy many years of enjoyable use.
Question:	what is it made of
Answer:	an inner chamber holds the feed, with the holes for feeding lining up with the holes in the outer metal mesh covering. The Outer metal mesh covering is hung from a spring which, when weight greater than a bird or two is applied, pulls down and decorative metal leaves cover the feed holes from the obvious, far too heavy, intruder. It has solved our squirrel pilfering problem and cut our bird feed expenses by 2/3!! It really works.
Question:	How do you fill the feeder without seed escaping through the feeder holes
Answer:	I set the feeder down in the bag or bucket of seed so that the seeds that fall out of the holes simply fall back into the bag.

The Need for Clearance

Remember it is the squirrel’s weight that triggers the closing mechanism. If a squirrel can reach over from a nearby foothold and avoid placing its weight on the feeder, it will be able to access the seed. Allow for at least 18 inches or 47 cm of clearance around the feeder. This will force the squirrel to climb onto the feeder triggering the closing mechanism.

Answer:	It's more like carpet with stitching. Coir is a natural fiber made from coconut husks.
Question:	is the top of the feeder made of metal or plastic
Answer:	This buffalo checked rug has a suitable thickness, the door is easy to through and soft. I love this checked rug, so do my puppy.
Question:	Does it have a hook to hang it by or do I have to purchase additional item
Answer:	I think the rug would wrinkle under the table legs. I use it as a bottom layer on front porch and change out doormat with holidays on top. Its very well made but would work best on wood or tile floors.
Question:	Is there a way to seal up the food so the birds wont eat it all? I hate having to refill these
Answer:	My porch is not covered either. I layered the rug with a coir mat on top, we’ve had some bad rain lately and the rug does get dirty from the coir mat. I’ve washed it twice now, with some bleach and detergent, and it comes out almost like new. I hang it to dry then lay it back outside. Works for me.

Question:	Has anyone ever had problems with hummingbird feeders attracting roaches
Answer:	No, never roaches. I live in an apartment and have never had any issues with feeders and roaches in the 8 years I've had them. I did have ants get into a feeder once (not this feeder) and was able to fix it by putting Vaseline on the hanger. Hope that helps!
Question:	Is there a water moat to keep out ants
Answer:	you can also hang the feeder with a bit of fishing wire and the ants can't walk on the line. i did that with one of mine and no issues.
Question:	Has anyone had any issues with leaks? I have 14 feeders and they all leak, mainly at the seams where the plastic is molded
Answer:	Purchased in 2015 and no leaks. However, I don't fill it more than halfway because we have only about 3 hummingbirds. They take a while to empty it and I want to clean the feeder each time I refill.
Question:	does this feeder come with the nectar or do you have to buy it separately
Answer:	One part sugar (1 full cup) to four parts water (4 cups). DO NOT ADD COLORING. The red coloring may be toxic and certainly does not attract the birds. Once the birds start using this feeder others will see them and will join in. With two feeders, I need to refill them with two quarts of clear nectar each a day...year round here in San Diego. I'm using feeders I bought in 2014, so they last a long time in the shade. Try different places until you find one the birds feel safe at. Bees cannot reach the nectar in this feeder, and the feeder is easy to clean, which I do with a bottle brush and hot water every day. Enjoy!

Answer:	I bought this only 6 months ago and the glass just broke apart by itself...absolutely no prompting needed! One day I looked outside and the bottom part was on the ground and the top part still hanging from the tree.
