6 best bat house texas
A bat house in Texas is a specialized structure designed to provide shelter and habitat for bats. These houses are typically installed in outdoor spaces, such as backyards or gardens, to attract and support bat populations. Here are some key points about bat houses in Texas:
Purpose: Bat houses are created to encourage bats to roost in a specific area, which can be beneficial for both bats and humans. Bats are important for natural pest control as they consume a large number of insects, including mosquitoes.
Location: When installing a bat house in Texas, it's important to choose a suitable location.Bats prefer warm and sunny spots, so a south-facing or west-facing location that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight is ideal.
Design: Bat houses are typically designed as tall, narrow boxes with multiple chambers or crevices for bats to roost in. The internal design provides a comfortable and safe environment for bats to rest during the day.
Materials: Bat houses are often made of wood, which provides insulation and a natural feel for the bats. The wood should be untreated and roughened to allow bats to cling easily.
Installation: Proper installation is crucial for the success of a bat house. It should be mounted high above the ground (at least 10-15 feet) on a pole, building, or tree. Bats prefer a secure, quiet location.
Maintenance: Bat houses require minimal maintenance. However, they should be checked periodically to ensure they remain in good condition. Cleaning may be necessary if guano accumulates.
Species: In Texas, you may attract various bat species, including Mexican free-tailed bats, evening bats, and others, depending on your location within the state.
Benefits: Having a bat house in your Texas backyard can help reduce the mosquito population and promote a healthy ecosystem. Bats also play a crucial role in pollination and seed dispersal.
Local Regulations: Before installing a bat house, it's advisable to check for any local regulations or guidelines related to wildlife conservation or building structures.
Bat Conservation: Supporting bat populations through bat houses is a positive step towards bat conservation. Bats face various threats, including habitat loss and disease, and providing them with suitable roosting sites can help mitigate some of these challenges.
By setting up a bat house in your Texas backyard, you can contribute to the well-being of local bat populations while also enjoying the benefits of natural pest control.

User questions & answers
Question: | I've read that the cedar needs to be aired out because bats do not like woods with strong scents. Has this already been aired out |
Answer: | I purchased this item but had to return as the light wouldn't mount up to the flagpole I was using, Sorry I couldn't be of more help:( |
Question: | There any time that’s better to put a house up to try n get bats or it just whenever cause will take a while anyways |
Answer: | The light has a 1/2" hole thru the center, which the bolt from the ball goes thru. So it doesn't matter the diameter of the pole, just that you need to have a 1/2" threaded hole in the top of the pole. |
Question: | Will this box need to be painted or treated in any way to prevent rot |
Answer: | Very bright white |
Question: | If wasps move in, what is the best way to remove them? I assume that the canned spray would not be good for bats even after a period of time |
Answer: | It seams to work well with any flag pole that has a 1/4" threaded ball or eagle on the top. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do I need bat attractants |
Answer: | Fix it with flex seal |
Question: | What are the best mounting screws to use |
Answer: | I'm sure you've made your decision long ago, but before I bought it this was a question I wondered. Yes, it can. The solar fountain I got is small, just over 6" across. In fact with some fiddling I've gotten the fountain to hit the top decoration, which fills it and it trickles out the other side, making even more and nicer water sounds than without it. I use a few small rocks to keep the fountain in place and submerged to make sure it's got enough water. |
Question: | How many bats dose it house |
Answer: | This is 64 ounce ready to use bottle. It is intended to be poured straight from the bottle into the feeder. You will get 64 ounces of nectar out of the bottle. |
Question: | What kind of wood is this house constructed of? Also, does it have any interior passage holes to allow for the bats to pass between chambers |
Answer: | If the nectar is unopened, there is no shelf life. Once it has been opened, it can be stored for one month in the refrigerator. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I just received this item and cannot find any hardware to hang the box or any instructions, thinking about returning it unless I am missing something |
Answer: | You will have to buy hardware to hang it it the way you prefer. Some people hang it directly on a building or on a tree, in which case you can attach by drilling through the back board and mounting it. I purchased a pole and a bracket for a pole and mounted it that way. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0149EZNI6/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_10?smid=A2393ZJQLDRI0I&psc=1 |
Question: | Are the gripping grids metal or plastic? Can this item be custom made using plastic grids instead of metal |
Answer: | the ones on my item were not metal, plastic or vinyl |
Question: | How many bats can it fit |
Answer: | up to one hundred bats, but i have counted 75 bats coming out with lots of little babies still inside with other adults |
Question: | Is it Western Red Cedar |
Answer: | It is cedar but since the product is made in China I am not sure of the origin of the wood. |
Product features
Landing Skerfs
Landing skerfs on the extended base of the house make it easier for bats to land and climb into the house.
Hanging Mesh
Easy Grip nylon hanging mesh gives bats a place to easily grip for hanging. Unlike metal mesh, nylon will not rust or corrode and will not scratch or cut bats. Nylon mesh will tear away if a bat's foot were to become stuck, ensuring bat safety.
Holds Up To 300 Bats
Bats are colony mammals and prefer to roost in larger groups. Extensive research shows that multi-chamber bat houses have higher occupancy rates than smaller, single-chamber designs.
Constructed with Rust-Free Hardware
Stainless steel screws are used in the construction of this bat house to ensure a secure, durable, and safe habitat for your bats to use for many years.
Attracting Bats
Existing evidence strongly suggests that using bat attractants or lures will not increase house occupancy rates. Extensive studies show that the number one bat attractant is a well-designed and quality-constructed bat house. Occupancy rate is highest in tall, multi-chamber house designs.
Another important bat attractant is a reliable source of food and water. Try incorporating flowers that stay open through the night or bloom through the evening into your landscape to attract night-flying insects. Cut down on or completely eliminate the use of pesticides in your yard.
Beneficial Bats
Insectivorous bats are capable of eating up to their own body weight in insect pests each night, helping to keep your yard free of a variety of pesky insects including mosquitoes. These same 'pest control services' also help keep a multitude of crops healthy by eating the insects that feed on them. By limiting insect damage to crops, and decreasing the amount of pesticides farmers must use to keep crops healthy, scientists have estimated that bats are worth more than $3.7 billion a year to the agriculture industry alone. Bats also join birds, bees, and butterflies on the list of pollinators, pollinating hundreds of plants across the world and accounting for a number of the many foods we enjoy. In fact, bats are considered a 'keystone species' in certain tropical and desert ecosystems where their pollinating and seed-dispersing activities are essential to the continuation of the food supply so many other animals depend on.
Installing your house
All bat houses should be mounted a minimum of 10 feet above ground, with 12-20 feet height being better. Houses should be installed facing East or South in a location that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight (morning sun is preferable for locations where only partial sun is available). Be sure to place the house 20-30 feet from the nearest trees when possible to help protect the bats from predators. Locations close to a water source - preferably 1/4 mile or less - are often more successful. It is also important to install your bat house away from man-made light sources such as streetlights.
How quickly bats take up residence in a new house can depend on the location and time of year the house is erected. It is suggested to wait two full years before relocating or modifying an unoccupied house.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it work on Egrets or Herons |
Answer: | Not at all for my 2 corgis and I dont think it'll effect cats either. It's a totally different frequency, and I believe that is stated in the description too. I dont think you'll have any issues!!! |
Question: | does this make noise |
Answer: | I think it will work bc the sound travels well. It worked good the first year, like perfect, but they are coming back so I'm not sure if the sound isn't working anymore |
Question: | Does it effect dogs |
Answer: | I do not know about bats and flying squirrels. It is very effective on rodents, such as mice and rats. The unit seems to irritate them, to the point that they, the rodents, do not want to be near the units sound dispersal area. |
Question: | Does this work with woodpeckers |
Answer: | Better? The only way this could be a worse product is if it actually attracted mice. That said, it might, in fact attract mice. No whether the M793 attracts more mice than the M792, I couldn't tell you. All I can tell you is that this doesn't work.....at all. I'm surprised that a company like Victor with a reputation of making simple things that work would put their name on this gimmicky, worthless thing. Get yourself some real mouse traps...Victor mouse traps, or Google "5-gallon bucket mouse trap" and kill mice. Don't waste your money on this. |

Bird-X Balcony Gard Ultrasonic Bird Repeller
Open spaces often seem impossible to protect, as pest birds can avoid the most common traps and deterrents. Fortunately, electronic bird deterrent devices produce extremely effective audio and visual threats that frighten, irritate and disorient birds — forcing them to seek calmer, untreated areas. Electronic bird repeller products condition pest birds to stay away from treated areas and never return.
Perfect for Residential Areas
The ultrasonic device is nearly silent to the human ear. Although you are not able to hear the sounds, the soundwaves cause unwanted pests to become annoyed and seek calmer areas.
This quiet, yet effective product helps to eliminate the problem without creating a nuisance for other residents and neighbors.
Easy to Control
Settings are available to adjust volume, sound range, and continuous or motion-activated modes. The Balcony Gard can be installed and mounted nearly anywhere with the ability to protect up to 900 square feet.
Forces out Various Pests
Effectively repels pigeons, crows, blackbirds, sparrows, starlings, swallows, grackles, ducks, gulls, rodents, bats, and more.
Able to be used in multiple locations such as balconies, porches, driveways, yards, rooftops, pools, gardens, and more. The possibilities are nearly endless to protect your property from unwanted pests.
Reduces Risks
Lowers the health risk associated with pest infestation, eliminates fire hazards caused by bird nesting upon vents and chimneys, and protects home-grown foods from destructive animals.
