12 best propane camping oven

A propane camping oven is a portable cooking appliance that uses propane gas as a fuel source to bake, roast, and cook food while camping or in outdoor settings. These ovens are designed to provide the convenience of baking and cooking in remote locations where traditional kitchen appliances are not available. Here's some information about propane camping ovens:

  1. Portability: Propane camping ovens are designed to be compact and lightweight, making them easy to transport to camping sites, picnics, and other outdoor activities. They are an excellent choice for campers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

  2. Fuel Source: These ovens are powered by propane gas, which is stored in small, portable propane cylinders or tanks.Propane is a clean-burning fuel that is readily available at camping supply stores and is easy to connect to the oven.

  3. Cooking Versatility: Propane camping ovens are versatile and can be used to bake a variety of foods, including bread, pizza, cookies, casseroles, and more. Some models come with multiple racks or shelves, allowing you to cook multiple items simultaneously.

  4. Temperature Control: Many propane camping ovens have temperature control knobs or dials that allow you to adjust the oven's temperature to your desired level. This control enables precise cooking and baking.

  5. Piezo Ignition: Piezo ignition systems are common in these ovens, providing a reliable and convenient way to start the propane burner without the need for matches or lighters.

  6. Wind Shields and Insulation: Some models are equipped with wind shields or insulation to help maintain a consistent cooking temperature and protect the flame from wind interference.

  7. Compact Design: Camping ovens are typically designed to fit inside a camping kitchen setup. They often have foldable legs, handles, or carry cases for easy storage and transport.

  8. Cooking Time: Cooking times may vary depending on the oven's design and the specific recipe. However, propane camping ovens are generally efficient and can cook food relatively quickly compared to open campfires.

  9. Safety Features: Most propane camping ovens are equipped with safety features such as automatic shut-off valves and pressure regulators to ensure safe operation.

  10. Cooking Accessories: To enhance your outdoor cooking experience, you can use accessories like baking sheets, cast iron cookware, and pizza stones inside the oven.

  11. Maintenance: Cleaning and maintaining your propane camping oven are important for its longevity and performance. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and storage.

  12. Fuel Efficiency: Propane camping ovens are generally fuel-efficient, and the amount of propane required for cooking will depend on factors like cooking time and temperature settings.

When using a propane camping oven, it's essential to follow safety guidelines and set up your cooking area in a well-ventilated outdoor space. Always ensure that the propane tank is securely connected and in good condition before use. With proper care and attention, a propane camping oven can provide you with delicious baked goods and meals during your outdoor adventures.

Bring the joy of fresh-baked muffins, cinnamon rolls, cornbread, and other treats to any campsite with the Coleman Camp Oven. Designed to fit neatly on Coleman propane and liquid fuel camp stoves, this portable oven gives you the ability to bake treats or keep food warm while spending time outdoors. The included interior rack adjusts to 3 heights, while the easy-to-read thermometer lets you bake with confidence. This portable oven is made from smooth aluminized steel that resists corrosion and scratches and wipes clean easily, and it folds flat for convenient carrying and storage when it’s time to pack up camp.

Camping stoves and other cooking accessories have made it possible to cook most things outdoors, but baked goods have always been out of the question. Until now, that is. Made of smooth aluminized steel, the Coleman camping oven lets you bake a batch of muffins, biscuits, or rolls right at the campsite.

The Coleman camping oven is designed to sit on a two- or three-burner camping stove.
The oven doesn't require electric or gas power to work. Instead, campers simply place the oven on top of a Coleman two- or three-burner stove, which provides all the heat you need to bake your favorite dishes. The oven also offers such baking essentials as an adjustable steel bake rack and an easy-to-read thermometer. And when you're done baking, the oven folds flat for easy storage. Made in China, the Coleman camping oven measures 12 by 12 by 12 inches (W x H x D) when standing and weighs 7 pounds.

About Coleman

More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a "no light, no pay" clause--a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked--and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark.

In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company's current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won't deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.

User questions & answers

Question: can you use it over an outside grill
Answer: Yes. I use mine on a Weber Q1200. Look at pics because there is a Coleman grill that will melt if you use this on it.
Question: What are the interior dimensions of the oven
Answer: The outside dimensions are 12x12x12, so the inside dimensions are the same, minus about a 16th of an inch (or a little less, maybe 1/32?) for the thickness of the metal. If you just figure its one cubic foot you're going to be fine. You can find ten inch square bake-ware (muffin tins, cookie sheet, cake pan) on Amazon.com pretty easy. The bake-ware is actually usually on the same page as the oven if you scroll down.
Question: I was wondering if anyone actually has tried to use the Coleman oven on top of a woodstove that has a firebox that is thermostaticly controled
Answer: I've used it only on a gas stove, either propane or butane. You may need to have a flame right below the oven. If the heat source is too far away, the distance and lack of insulation in the oven may prevent it heating as high as 350 F.
Question: Where would one get extra racks for the inside of this unit
Answer: I had the same problem, extra racks. They do not sell them. What I did was cut the lower parts of two wire hangers,so you have in your hand two rods the size of the original rack. Now if you want to make it more fancy in a mesh like form, fine. So you put the two rods in the slots and place your pan on top.

User questions & answers

Question: Where is it made from
Answer: Looking at the previous answers, looks like it used to be made in the usa, but now it looks like it's made in china. In the product details, it says it's made in china as of 5-28-17.
Question: can i use it without the legs? or what's the lowest i can adjust the legs to
Answer: No, you cannot use it without the legs. I looked at this too. The propane connection assembly extends lower than the metal shield around the burner. The legs do not have a lot of adjustment, maybe an inch or two. I have the stove packed away with my camping gear and cannot verify the exact amount of adjustment or lowest cooking height.
Question: I would purchase this to do pressure canning outside. Is there a problem with the weight of a full canner
Answer: Weight is not the issue with outside canning..... Too much heat on the thin aluminum canner bottoms is the issue. https://www.healthycanning.com/pressure-canner-heat-source/#heat-source-too-high Most everyone agrees to definitely avoid any “turkey fryer” propane heaters because of the high heat required to boil the oil to fry the turkey would damage many canners. Some people say, however, that there are some safe outdoor heat sources — ones with adjustable temperature controls such as the Camp Chef line.  “Only Camp Chef brand 2 burner stove on low is the only safe one we know of.”  4
Question: How much weight can this handle? I am hosting a lobster bake so I am figuring about 45 pounds/ 21kg will be on the unit at any given time. Thank you
Answer: I came here to look up this answer. I can say that I've had mine since 2015 and have routinely mashed and boiled wort on the burner. Over 7 gallons. Which would be around 56 pounds. I may have even doubled this up once with two batches at the same time.

User questions & answers

Question: My goal is to use Caputo 00 flour which is best cooked at temperatures of 750+ resulting in pizza being done in 2 to 3 minutes. Has anyone tried this
Answer: My best pizza to date on this oven was a margarita at a 625 temp and on for about 6 or 7 minutes. The higher temps are OK if you only have one topping or so, but I felt I had more control with the lower temp, especially what making a combo pizza. Hope this helps.
Question: Will this oven get to temp in below zero temperatures
Answer: I used it in outside temperatures of 20° and it got to 700° but with door open it struggled to stay at 600°
Question: How wide is the actual oven. It says 31" in the product description but that's really large if it only cooks a 12" pizza. Are those box dimensions
Answer: You are right. The dimensions given are outside packaging dimensions, no the actual products OD. The products OD are 25 3/4w x 14 3/4d x 15"h approx. The stone is 20 x 13. When they say this item can reach 750/800 degrees in 15 minutes they ain't lying. I make perfectly done pizza in 3minutes or less. Read the start up institute tions very carefully as the stone is very fragile and susceptible to cracking from changing temps to fast. A week ago I ordered another one to gift to my brother in Michigan and was put on a waiting list. Good luck
Question: I have uses my pizza over twice and both times the pizzas are black and burnt on the bottom even after turning down the heat the second use. ideas
Answer: With all the energy coming from below the stone and then radiating upwards the difference between the two locations can be as much a 200°. Get a lasar temp guage and learn your oven. Now to solve the problem, get the stone hot ( put on high) then turn down to medium . Put your pizza in directly on stone until bottom is tan/brown. Then put a pizza pan under the pizza upside down to keep the pizza off the hot stone and finish cooking the top of the pizza. It takes a little experimenting to get it right but when you do this oven is better than a wood burning oven. What else would let u go from room temp to 750° in 15 minutes. Enjoy. I do most every night.

User questions & answers

Question: What are the dimensions of cooking surface when stove is open for cooking grill
Answer: about 20'' x 10''
Question: Which carry case fits this stove
Answer: Coleman Part# 2000004431. That case will fit the stove AND can hold Two propane bottles. It's a nice case, keeps your stove looking like new plus carrying the bottles.
Question: What type of connector do I need for this Coleman Stove? I see many types but do not know which one to buy
Answer: it comes with the connector. you don't need to worry about that as long as you buy the small, green, one-use propane canisters.
Question: Can an adapter and propane tank be used with this burner
Answer: I'm not 100% sure but I think it should, provided the adapter is for this kind of Coleman propane stove. Personally, I use a refill adapter to refill my One-LB propane bottles from the 20-LB BBQ propane tank. I like the ease of the 1-LB bottles. The 20-LB tanks are too bulky for camping trips. User questions & answers

Question: Can i use this atop my "camp chef flat top grill
Answer: Just saw this answer from a FTG600 customer (as we are), seems Camp Chef needs to replace some of their customer support people.... "Love love love this oven. We use it on the Camp Chef Flat Top Grill(much nicer griddle/grill then Blackstone) by removing the griddle top and setting it right on the grill grates of three burners. Heats up quickly! Basically by the time you have your toppings in the dough the oven is hot. We make a thicker crust with lots of toppings so use a lower temp. Have baked pies and quiche in it as well. Would buy again in a heartbeat."
Question: Does anyone have a carrier/storage bag for this pizza oven? If you do, can you please direct me to the one that works? We need to transport/store
Answer: I know this is an old question but I wanted to provide updated information for people like me who were looking for a bag. The bag you want for this is the Camp Chef BBQ Box Carry Bag. It's model number BB-90BAG and it specifically states it will fit the PZ90 Pizza Oven. If, for some reason, that bag number doesn't work, it's the one made for the BB90L BBQ box.
Question: Confusion. I am reading how many are using this on their grills, etc. Can't it be used on it's own? I read the descrip, making sure info is correct
Answer: There is a costlier Camp Chef propane powered oven with an integrated burner, it looks similar but is taller to incorporate the propane burner. This accessory oven DOES NOT have a burner, thus requires use of an external heat source - like your existing grill or outdoor stove top surface. About 16,000 BTU cooking power is required.
Question: can this oven work with any out door grills other than camp chef
Answer: Yes, it works with my old Weber Genesis gas grill. It is, however, a very tight fit, with only about 1/16" clearance on either side, and about 1-1/2" in front and back. The Weber grill lid must remain open, because the pizza oven is too large for the lid to close over it. I put a piece of aluminum foil over the oven opening during preheat and am able to get the oven to about 650-675 and the stone close to 600 degrees. If you use it with the Camp Chef burners, it sounds like you can get it a little hotter than that.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I remove the gas cylinder before it is empty for storage
Answer: Absolutely, you wouldn't want to store the gas cylinder attached to burner for an extended period of time.
Question: How much does it weigh
Answer: On my kitchen scale the full gas canister weighs 30.12 oz. and the stove components weigh 24.76 oz. When weighed together as a unit I got 54.86 oz. = 3.43 pounds.
Question: How long does it normally last for one full propane tank? Say, if I cook for about 20 minutes every time, how many times can a propane tank be used
Answer: Usually a tank will last 8 hrs if you leave it at medium heat to low. Depending in the space required to heat. So if you the calculations. 20 min X 3 = 60 min 3X8=24. So about 24 times give or take a few.
Question: Is it sturdy enough to set a cast iron skillet ontop of and cook food without worrying about damaging the burner setup
Answer: Hello. I take this stove camping and canoeing all the time. I use a large, heavy, cast iron skillet with a 11" base, 12" top, 2.25" sides to do my cooking. However, to maintain a hotter oil temperature for frying fish you must cover the cast iron skillet with a lid otherwise the oil will not get hot enough to boil. I purchased a commercial aluminum lid for a stock pot to use. NOW, LISTEN CAREFULLY, the factory propane cylinder PLASTIC BASE WILL NOT WORK and IS DANGEROUS TO USE with this setup. The cast iron skillet I use is much to heavy for safe use and with boiling oil you are heading for disaster. Here is the SOLUTION for a larger, very sturdy base. Get a new or used 12" non-stick fry pan. Take the handle off (grind, bend, or unscrew). File any sharp edges. Drill a 3/8" hole in the center of the pan. Get (1) 3/8" x 1 1/2" or 2" long bolt (depending how deep the non-stick fry pan is), lock nut, 2 washers. Get about 6" of 4" diameter PVC plastic pipe. Get a 4" PVC plastic pipe end cap with a flat bottom. Press, or glue, the PVC end cap onto the 6" long PVC pipe. Drill a 3/8" hole through center. Now assemble stand: non-stick fry pan cooking side faces away or to ground. PVC pipe is now all 1 piece and rests on top of flat surface of fry pan. 3/8" bolt with washer goes inside pipe, through fry pan and is bolted with washer and lock nut making the entire unit 1 piece. DO NOT tighten the 3/8" bolt so tight that it splits the plastic PVC, just snug. The 3/8" bolt should not extend past the lip of the fry pan or it will not sit level. The 1 pound cylinder will fit inside with single burner stove attached. You have just made a much safer base for your Coleman single burner stove. "WARNING" You must still exercise EXTREME CAUTION and CAREFULNESS when cooking with this setup and especially when using HOT OIL (wear oven mitts when removing HOT skillet). You can vary the diameter of the base fry pan for sturdiness, or the PVC pipe height. The cooking surface has now been raised but as long as the ground is solid and flat, or the table sturdy enough, I have not had an issue with tipping. There is a small space between the PVC pipe and the 1 pound cylinder. You can wedge a small twigs in, or plastic, whatever works to tighten the cylinder so it does not shift around or turn while cooking. I pack the PVC and base as 1 piece but you can unbolt them if you have to make 2 smaller items. Best Regards, and Enjoy Cooking With Your Coleman.

User questions & answers

Question: Does it come with a propane adaptor? If not, what should I get? I am new to propane stoves
Answer: Yes, it's made to fit the small green bottles but can be adapted to be used on a 5 gallon. You will need to buy an adaptor hose to fit the stove & screw on to the 5gal bottle. That set up is great for extended camping time.
Question: The images show two different clasps. Does this model come with the wide or narrow one
Answer: We just bought this model on Amazon about 3 weeks ago. It has the larger clasp and seemed to work well. Went camping and the ignition/lighter switch was a huge help. Used it for 2 days straight and barely went through 1 small propane tank. Good luck!
Question: Do you have to use Colleman propane canisters
Answer: Any 1-pound propane canister will work, as well as hooking up a bulk propane tank via appropriate hoses. Triton is the best camp stove I've ever used. Highly recommended!
Question: There are 2 different clasps pictured - is the wider clasp made of metal or plastic
Answer: The entire stove is metal except for the nobs and the easy start button. The black clasp to lock is metal as well as all the hinges.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the burner inside supposed to be slightly slanted or crooked
Answer: Dont know if it is supposed to be but mine sure is.
Question: What size teflon sheets would I need to buy for this grill? Thank you
Answer: The actual cooking size, of the grill, is 16”x9”. That’s the area you have to grill. The grate. No bigger. Hope that helps.
Question: What material are the sides? They look like plastic. Thanks
Answer: The sides are made of metal. I brought this grill down to the Florida Keys and cooked on it for 12 straight night. It was able to do whatever I ask her to do. If you need it to cook low and slow it did it. If you needed to sear something did that also. As long as you got some grilled intellect this little cooker handles food like something much bigger
Question: does it come with one propane tank
Answer: No. There are no bottles of propane with the grill. You can get the propane bottles at Walmart or a sporting goods store for a few dollars.

User questions & answers

Question: Do the side flaps come off or fold outward all the way so that a longer griddle can be used
Answer: Yes they fold out, so if its not windy you can have a larger pot pan or griddle, Does the back come off though? the Eureka spires does.
Question: Is there an attachment for the hose from a 20 lb propane bottle
Answer: It is not included, but you can certainly purchase one. We attach ours to our trailers quick disconnect still using the sm bottle attachment.
Question: Will this support the lodge 20" by 10.44 inch griddle without removing the wind flaps
Answer: i got it out and measured it. it will take the griddle you present. 3/4 inch space each end of 20 inches with wings up. the 10 inch side has 3/4 in in back and no limit in front. hope this was helpful.
Question: I've never purchased a camping stove before and not sure what to expect--in all regards....really... :) But, to be clear, do I need to purchase a hose and/or connector for a propane tank or does that come with the purchase of the stove
Answer: You will need a hose to connect to a large propane tank but there is a connector for the small bottles. BTW, this stove is the bomb. When we lost power this past Thanksgiving, EVERYTHING that needed to be cooked on a stovetop we cooked on this stove because the turkey was in the oven and our generator wouldn't support the oven and burners. The stove performed wonderfully!

User questions & answers

Question: can this burner be used indoors
Answer: I set it on top of my electric range and use it for cooking with a wok. I like gas better for the wok. Works fine, although my house is pretty drafty so I don't have to worry much about ventilation. Downside? Don't leave it setting on the electric stove and turn the electric burner on. Might do a little damage when the gas explodes!
Question: My reason for considering this purchase is if the stove has a low setting, low enough so oatmeal doesn't burn. Some reviewers said yes AND no
Answer: I cook oatmeal on this burner every morning with no additional hardware. turn it very low- as low as possible. if your pot is small, do not cover. if the pot is deep, use a cover. you can pretty much tell if it boils over that the heat is too hi and or the pot is too shallow.
Question: is the unit stable, get hot enough for a wok pan? flat bottomed wok
Answer: Yes! Very stable that's why I got mine, and is great for larger pans/pots. I'm not sure about hot enough for wok but it should as I have cooked large pots of stew. For me it's a great one burner stove.
Question: Does this product includes the connection to the propane tank or do I have to buy a separate hose
Answer: The Coleman 5453A series Propane Stove is supplied complete with the following: 5453-2351 = Grate. R430-565T = Regulator assembly. 5453-3351 = Foot Assy. 5453-1351 = Knob. Note: The Regulator Assembly is the connection to the 16.5 Coleman Propane Fuel tank. A hose would be an addition of your choice if you wanted the propane to be farther away from the stove itself.
