14 best clay pizza stone
A clay pizza stone is a popular tool for baking delicious homemade pizzas in outdoor ovens, grills, or indoor ovens. Here's what you need to know about clay pizza stones:
Material: Clay pizza stones are typically made from natural clay or terracotta. The clay is known for its excellent heat retention and even heat distribution, which is crucial for achieving a crispy, perfectly cooked pizza crust.
Heat Retention: One of the primary advantages of using a clay pizza stone is its ability to absorb and retain heat. When preheated in an oven or grill, the stone becomes very hot, ensuring that the pizza cooks quickly and evenly.
Even Cooking: The clay's heat-retaining properties help create an evenly cooked pizza crust. It prevents hot spots and ensures that the entire pizza cooks uniformly, resulting in a crispy base and perfectly melted cheese.
Versatility: While clay pizza stones are commonly associated with pizza, they can also be used to bake other items like bread, cookies, and pastries. The even heat distribution makes them versatile tools for various baking needs.
Preheating: To use a clay pizza stone effectively, it's essential to preheat it in the oven or grill before placing the pizza on it. This ensures that the stone is as hot as possible when the pizza goes on, helping to achieve the desired crispy crust.
Pizza Peel: A pizza peel is a helpful tool for transferring the pizza onto the hot clay pizza stone and removing it once it's cooked. It allows for easy handling and prevents any mishaps during the transfer.
Care and Cleaning: Clay pizza stones are sensitive to sudden temperature changes, so it's crucial to avoid exposing them to extreme heat or cold. After use, allow the stone to cool down gradually before cleaning it with a dry brush or cloth. Avoid using soap or water, as the stone can absorb moisture and develop a musty smell.
Durability: While clay pizza stones are effective for baking, they can be fragile. They may crack or break if exposed to rapid temperature changes or physical shock. Handle them with care to prolong their lifespan.
Size and Shape: Pizza stones come in various sizes and shapes, including round, square, and rectangular. Choose a size that fits your oven or grill and matches your preferred pizza size.
In summary, a clay pizza stone is a valuable tool for achieving restaurant-quality homemade pizza crusts. Its heat-retaining properties and even heat distribution make it an excellent choice for baking not only pizzas but also a variety of other baked goods. Proper preheating and handling are key to getting the best results from a clay pizza stone, and taking care to prevent damage will help extend its lifespan.

Product description
Where there’s a party, there’s pizza—and tonight the party’s in your kitchen. It doesn’t matter if the only guests are this Honey-Can-Do Oven Rectangular Pizza Stone, a bottle of Valpolicella and you in your finest sweatpants. You’ll be making pizzeria-worthy pies with delightfully textured crusts. In the blink of an eye, this large pizza stone bakes up your dough, draping it in a gooey blanket of cheese you can wrap yourself up in or actually eat. The best part? In addition to being the best pizza stone for your oven, it doubles as the best baking stone for happenin’ bread parties, too.
Professional pizza and traditional European bread ovens are often lined with stone or brick. This is so heat is stored up and redistributed evenly. The resulting blast of heat from the Honey-Can-Do Oven rectangular pizza stone gives bread and pizza a nice chewy crust. The rustic French tarts called galettes are also well suited to a baking stone. To use the stone, place it in a cold oven and preheat to 500 degrees for pizza, or according to the recipe for bread or galettes. The stone is made of the same material that lines blast furnaces and kilns, so it can handle ultra-high temperatures.
Wait until the baking stone is entirely cooled before attempting to clean it. Let it dry completely before using again. Some discoloration will occur over time; this is natural and will not affect baking. Using baking parchment may help delay that discoloration. Do not bake cookies, turnovers or other high-fat items on the stone; the stone would absorb the fat and proceed to produce smoke and bad odors. The stone comes with a flyer that contains detailed use and cleaning instructions, as well as recipes for bread, pizza dough, and two pizza toppings. --Garland Withers

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this the Cooks Illustrated reviewed Product? Is size 14x16 or 14.5x16.5? Is thickness 0.5 or |
Answer: | Most likely not. I have larger hands and my hands swim in these gloves. They work fine. I’d recommend a fabric style heat glove for a better fit |
Question: | Can this stone be used on a grill? I'm looking for one that can go directly onto my cast iron grate |
Answer: | Very good. The size is right. The inner fabric makes it easier for me to wear. |
Question: | Can this be used outside on a gas grill |
Answer: | Great. It can handle meat very quickly without worrying about the boiling temperature. |
Question: | Is this the pizza stone that was top rated by cook's illustrated |
Answer: | Gloves work great but are a little small, my hands are probably medium to large. Thermometer works great, claws are heavy duty plastic, brush and grill mat are a little cheap. Considering that the gloves alone cost $15+ at Walmart, I'd say cost performance ratio is good. I was satisfied overall. Set out to buy a thermometer and found this package for only a few dollars more than what the thermometer alone cost. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it have a carry rack |
Answer: | I have to strongly disagree with the seller. I and my family (including children) have used racks with other stones for years and never had an issue. Peels are great if you have a elevated stove, but if you have to crouch down for a lower level oven they can become unstable and its a great recipe for a 425 degree pizza on the foot. Finding a rack from another brand in 16" has become a pain and I will have to basically throw away a competitors stone if I want to acquire one. All things considered I should have shopped more. I recommend you offer it as an option and let your customers decide. |
Question: | Can this be used to make pizza's using home made uncooked or unfrozen pizza dough? If so, how do you transfer to the stone |
Answer: | Yes, I make homemade pizza dough all of the time and sometimes I also buy the dough in the frozen section of the grocery. The trick is to make sure that it will slide off of whatever surface you are actually constructing the pizza on. I make my dough and then build the pizza entirely on a piece of parchment paper. I then slide the pizza with toppings on the parchment paper into the oven. Another way is to dust the work surface and the pizza stone with a little cornmeal so that that dough slides off nicely. Before I had a pizza peel, I slid the dough off and on the stone with a cookie sheet that had a flat edge on one side. It was an inexpensive way to manage the dough and I already had the baking sheet in my kitchen. There are a lot of ways to so this, just make sure to follow the recipes that Cast Elegance sends you and to read and follow the Use and Care instructions carefully. The most important step is to heat the pizza stone for a minimum of 25 minutes after the oven is up to the desired temperature. Relax, enjoy...it is a fun way to "UP YOUR GAME" on pizzas! |
Question: | I have never cooked on a pizza stone before, what suggestions do you have for getting started |
Answer: | CastElegance will send you an email with a 31 page recipe Ebook attached. The recipes are easy to make and are quite delicious. Read the Care and Use section carefully. It is important to know that a WET stone will not work and a COLD stone will not work! If the stone is wet, dry the stone in the oven at 450F for 60 minutes before using. Always preheat the stone for 30 minutes before putting food on it. Never wash with soap or any chemicals and never put the stone in the dishwasher. If you follow these basic steps you should have great results. |
Question: | Other company's pizza stone reviews say that they break. How can I be sure yours does not have the same problem? I want something that will last |
Answer: | Yes, we have had broken stones, I would have to believe a lot less broken stones than other companies. The shipping folks throw them around like frisbees sometimes. The difference is that as a small business, I take care of my customers and am only a phone call or an email away. When a customer has a problem, i send them a new stone, no questions asked. If you read the reviews, you will see that I take care of customers and while this is straight out of my profits, it has generated a lot of goodwill for my company. I buy online all of the time and I have found that not many companies will answer the phone or respond to an email. I answer the phone, I answer the emails, I am the owner. I treat people like I want to be treated. I am proud of my customer support and I often tell my 5 daughters that if they ever want to go into business, you have to treat customers with respect and with honesty. After all, isn't that what life is about? |

How Do I Choose the Right Size?
Choose the right size for your oven by measuring the shortest useable side of your oven rack.
If your rack slopes upwards at the back of your oven, omit that space from your measurements.
Most ovens will only accommodate the 14-inch diameter round stone or the 14 x 16 inch rectangular stone. The 16-inch round stone will not fit many ovens.
How Do I Clean My Pizza Stone?
Never clean with soap or chemicals!
Always dry well in the oven before using. If chemicals or soap are used, they will soak into the stone and create an odor when they are heated. Also never season the stone with oil. The oil will soak in and create a smell when it burns off. Store the stone in the oven when not in use. It will keep the stone safe and dry and will actually improve the temperature profile of the oven and help the oven perform better.
Why Does My Pizza Stone Have Stains?
Stains are normal and in fact over time, the stone will have many more marks and spots from use. Think of it as a wonderful patina of memories of all the great food that you have made. A well-used stone will be a beautiful mottled black and brown from the oils from cheese and crusts and baked things that it has created. This is all good and should be expected. The marks and stains will not affect the performance or function of the stone. All porous type cookware such as this and pottery cookware will stain with use. Many cooks even prefer a stone that has been used for a while!

A stone makes pizza taste better
Our ceramic pizza stone bakes a crisper, more flavorful and delicious crust. That's because the stone is heat-resistant to 800° and distributes heat evenly without hot spots, which mimics the conditions of a traditional brick pizza oven. Besides using the stone for pizza, it's also great for serving warm bagels, toast, waffles, tortillas, and more. The ceramic stone is 13 inches in diameter and ⅜ inch thick.
A peel for managing any size pizza
The long-handled pizza peel is made from aluminum with a super-smooth finish that resists sticking. Slide the peel under an assembled pizza, place it onto the hot stone in the oven, and remove the peel while the pizza bakes. When the pizza is done, slide the peel under the crust and move the pizza from the oven to a cutting surface. The peel measures 9½ x 10½ inches with an 11½ inch handle.
A cutting wheel that makes perfect cuts
The stainless steel pizza cutter has a round cutting wheel with finger protectors that help keep hands from touching the super-sharp blade. It's a great tool that can also be used for cutting flatbread, brownies, and dessert bars. The key to keeping a sharp blade is to wash it by hand and dry with a soft towel, because moisture will dull any blade. The pizza cutter has a 2⅝ inch diameter blade and a handle that's 4½ inch long.

Product description
COOKING STONES originated thousands of years ago as they marked a period in time in which humans began experimenting with different tools to prepare their food. It was considered a gift to mankind to be able to transform raw provisions into meals packed with flavor.
THE THICKNESS AND COMPOSITION OF OUR STONE is intended to provide sturdiness as well as uniform heat distribution and high heat retention for a perfect evenly cooked meal. Its design and versatility make it an indispensable companion in the kitchen as well as out on a camping trip. For dinner, have something ready in hand to switch out the pizzas from the oven, as you won't be eating just a single one that night.
BEFORE ITS INITIAL USE it is important to season the surface of the pizza baking stone. Using a sliced onion coat the baking surface and with an oil of your choice, apply several thin layers while letting the stone soak in between coats. In a cold oven, place the stone and heat to 350-400^F for an hour. Smoke may appear from heating the oil. Wipe off excess.
HOW TO USE YOUR TUIDA STONE Heating the stone should always be done gradually, avoid great temperature differences and changes. Make sure food is near room temperature before placing it on the hot surface of the stone. After use, leave the stone to cool down in the oven and avoid handling it while it is hot.

NeoCasa’s Pizza Set: Get that Crispy Italian Crust
Normally, a pizza should only be baked for a short time (approx. 5 minutes) at the highest possible temperature (over 900° F / 500° C). Traditionally, this heat is achieved by using a built-in brick pizza oven, however in the home kitchen that’s not really practical as typical pizza ovens are large, heavy, and expensive.
The solution is a pizza stone set from NeoCasa that turns your typical household oven or grill into a small Italian pizzeria.
Our pizza stone has the same baking properties as a large brick oven. The baking stone removes excess moisture from the dough and transfers the heat evenly to the pizza base. This results in a perfectly airy, yet crispy dough.
Pizza Stone: The Right Base
The non-stick glazed porous surface of the stone removes moisture from the dough, ensuring only dry heat heats the dough. This means the end result is a perfectly crispy base and a light airy chewy crust that’ll make your mouth water.

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is it made? Is there any info on country of origin |
Answer: | Hi, It's made in China, same as most of other pizza stones. |
Question: | is this stone dishwasher safe |
Answer: | Hi, This stone can not be washed in a dishwasher. Thank you. |
Question: | Is this lead free |
Answer: | Hi, The ROCKSHEAT stone contains no lead or other harmful chemicals, it is burned in 2200℉ kiln and FDA, RoHS, LFGB, etc CERTIFICATED. |
Question: | Why does my pizza stick? I have pre heated each time as instructed |
Answer: | Hi Sticking will occur when: 1/the stone is not hot enough, this is the main reason of sticking. In the convection oven without heating tubes, it will take longer to preheat. We advise you to turn on the top broiler and put the stone on top rack to preheat with the highest temperature of your oven. Maybe you can burn the stone on burner, and it will heat up much quickly. You can also use infrared thermometer to get the temperature. If the temperature lower than 450F, the pizza may won't have brown bottom, even turn out to be sticking. It's hard to tell the accurate preheating time of reaching that high temp because it always depend on the performance of the oven or grill. One hour probably not enough in some ovens which can't reach their indicated temp. Infrared thermometer will show you the right way. 2/ the dough is too wet. For this, dusting some flour or cornmeal with your dough is useful, you can also put parchment paper on the stone to prevent sticking. |

- Less mess - The baking stone is coated in a non-stick glaze that prevents crust from fusing to it and creating a mess. Does not stain from grease or burnt crust and washes easily. Just sponge it with warm, soapy water and it will look brand new again
- Designed to last - The pizza stone for grill is made from black ceramic and is coated in a protective glaze, so there is no need to worry about the surface being affected by ultra-high temperatures. It also will not smoke, giving more flavor
- A perfect slice - Do other pizza stones for grill and oven come with a wheel cutter? This one does and it slices through pizza with ease. No more half-sliced pizzas that you need to pull apart. You can even use it when you order pizza in
- Natural materials - The baking stone for bread and pizza is made of fine natural materials and must be used correctly, first placed in a room-temperature oven and then preheated, otherwise placing the cold stone in a hot oven could cause it to crack

User questions & answers
Question: | does this pizza stone fit into an average size oven |
Answer: | Yes, this will work on gas barbecues and over firecamp grills. Place you pizza stone first and then fire up the gas. Once finished with cooking, leave it to cool on the rack and refrain from touching when hot. Good luck. |
Question: | Just bought the stone. How would you suggest I season it so that becomes nonstick faster? I made some rolls and they stuck to it. Nonstick spray |
Answer: | As to thickness: I measure the stone proper at 0.5" thick. However, when on a flat surface it sits on small "feet" that may raise its height from the surface to 0.8; I haven't measured that height. |
Question: | Will this withstand temperatures of 900 degrees |
Answer: | Absolutely! I use this stone exclusively on a powerful 36" Lynx grill. I cook Neapolitan style pizzas in 2 minutes, no turning or fuss. Using an IR thermometer to test its surface temp, I've found the stone withstands rising to at least 790 degrees F in the grill. Just like using it in the oven, put it on the grill before firing up the heat. And I suggest using indirect heat. I set the flames to low or med-low directly beneath the stone, and crank those on either side to high. Haven't had any problems... other than an intense desire to eat pizza every night. |
Question: | The description says 20" wide. Is it really |
Answer: | Yes. I use it almost every week on a gas grill. I light the grill and set the stone on it so they warm together. I start on high then lower the heat as necessary for desired temp. I shoot for 450-500 degree, cook for 5 minutes, rotate pizza 90 degrees and check bottom and go for another 5 minutes. |
