Answer:	The mats will respond to heat but they will generate more heat when the fire is directly beneath it. In other words, if you have a small fire directly under the right side of the mat, it will not generate throughout the entire mat. Answer:	I bought this as a gift for my son-in-law to protect their cedar deck from their new webber grill. I would consider it more for spills and splashes vs heat insulation. Grill does not get hot by the wheels, don't know how hot your smoker gets.

Answer:	I wear size L or XL in gloves for cold weather, but these gloves are suitably snug on me for improved dexterity with grill utensils. The extended cuffs protect forearms from heat and help keep the gloves in place.

Answer:	My wife hand wash the mat and they have been great for grilling steaks 🥩 or vegetables 🍅 🥕🥒 and cleaning is a snap because nothing sticks to the mat. I think they would withstand the dishwasher ok, but they are very flexible so they won’t stand up straight making them difficult to work with in a dishwasher.
