Question:	What is the diameter of the coil itself that sits in the bbq
Answer:	The diameter across is 13 1/4”...from the element side of the plugin to the foot tabs on the element is 13 3/4”....side note , I am using mine to build a whiskey barrel smoker, and it fits the bottom of a 15 gallon whiskey barrel perfectly! I own 2 of these elements and work great! No issues whatsoever.

Answer:	I use this on a master built electric grill. The grill surface is around 820 sq inches. I have had the grill temp gauged up to 500° and that was all it would give.

Answer:	It is, but doesn’t have the temp numbers. Also, it is a 1650 watt controller...It seems to be a bit wider and a little bit thicker...heavy duty build...mine works great...I have to diff types of Mecos and the controllers are interchangeable

Answer:	I bought one these about ten years ago. You're right: it's not electric but when I bought it it was not advertised as such.It was serviceable and last three or four years.

Answer:	The diameter for the cooking grid is 15 1/2".
Question:	It has no upper vents, how do I control smoke flow and temperature
Answer:	Mine was the same with no vent on top. I took a vent from another grill and drilled some holes in the top and installed the vent. Now it works good. I also changed out the temperature gage with degrees on it . Other than that the smoker is made pretty good . Good luck with yours.

Question:	What is the grill made of? steel? aluminum? also, the actual grill where you put the food, what is it coated with? porcelain, teflon
Answer:	I had the same grill for years. This is the replacement for the one that lasted over 20 years. I can't be sure what the grill is made of but it appears to be steel with a coating of a heat resistant paint. The only change I could see was the racks on the end are now fake wood instead of real wood.
Question:	to clean the cooking surface do you use a wire brush or a nylon brush
Answer:	I place a grill mat on the grill. When finished grilling, remove the mat and just wipe grill with a wet cloth if needed. Wash grill mat and put back on grill for next time. Would not use wire brush as I have heard the wires can break off an be ingested. Grill still likes new with this process and have grilled 3x per week since purchase. Love this grill.
Question:	How can you use hickory or misquite wood chips with this unit
Answer:	You just lay a handful of the small chips on the bottom tray next to the heating elements. It's easy and makes lots of smoke for flavor.

Answer:	Have only used it once & didn't notice. I put a metal cookie sheet under it to be on the safe side. Personally, I don't think I would put it directly on a wooden deck.

Answer:	yes and after you burn the grill down since it is made from wood, you will have to dig your food out of the ashes. really when did you ever see a wooden grill?

Answer:	No... in is a very small grill, nice, but small... grilling a chicken would be cut up on halved, but don't believe it would work with a beer can method....

Answer:	Yes! Tastes just like it was cooked on a gas or charcoal grill, without the usual flame-ups. This is probably the 6th or 7th electric grill we've had over the past 30-35 years. We use one until it wears out, then purchase another one.

Answer:	Meco has been a family-owned American business since 1959.
Question:	Will it hold a turkey
Answer:	The grate if I recall, is about 15" and you can adjust the level so yes, it will fit a turkey up to about 12-14 lbs.It's been years since I used mine ( I since got a Weber, now a huge pellet smoker) but this little Meco did a pretty good job. Just monitor the temp and use the water pan which helps moderate the heat. Skin might not get real crisp though, but you can shove it in a hot oven afterwards for a few minutes to get the skin crisp if you like. Also one chunk of wood nestled down in the charcoal is all you really need!
Question:	anyone have problems with the paint catching fire (other than mhs
Answer:	I did. Caught it in time to keep from having a major issue. Burned an area of about 25 square inches
Question:	Did anybody else have the paint peel off the side
Answer:	This a cheap version of the Weber Smoky Mountain, so unlike that one, if you burn at 400+ degrees, the paint will peel, but that is too hot for smoking anyway. I smoke at 200 degrees for 12 hours without issues.

Question:	when this element is on does it get red hot
Answer:	On my smoker, it does not get "red" hot, not like a stove element would. On "high" it does radiate quite a bit of heat though. Sufficient to char and smolder the wood chips I use and cook what I am cooking. I do wrap the deflector that sits underneath the element with foil to help it radiate heat upward.
