Question:	Does it work / have you used it with coal? (Anthracite for my coal stove, not charcoal). Coal is generally much harder to start than charcoal or wood
Answer:	I only used it with charcoal in a Komado Joe Grill; the type of charcoal is good quality as recommended by the manufacturer (their brand). This type of coal starts easily with typical coal starters (squares of compressed wood with wax). I bought the Looftlighter as a method of speeding up the process to light the coal - I was it on YouTube as a recommendation by users for quick starts to a komado style grill. Our experience is that it was not worth the time or money. Instructions show that you hold the wand near the coal and draw back after a few seconds and it begins to glow. the problem is that the glow is so small and the time it takes to fire up several pieces in the bowl, you could just throw in a few extra squares of fire starts and have the same effect. Komado style grills are designed for a reasonably slow heat-up to temperature before cooking. This is my experience; I don't know how it would translate to lighting a stove with anthracite.

Answer:	As I understand, fire generates smoke, so if you are lighting charcoal, there will be smoke. However this Looftlighter does not generate flames. One of the best methods of lighting charcoal in a short period of time without the smell or flames of petroleum lighter fluid. I was looking for quick lighting of natural charcoal (without fluid or fluid soaked packaged charcoal) and this is an excellent charcoal fire starter. Highly recommend, well worth the investment.
Question:	For the people who say it is the best method ever, have you used a propane torch? If so, how is this better
Answer:	I was using a propane torch before buying the Looflighter. Going from the propane torch to the Looflighter is like going from a flip phone to the iPhone 6. It lights much faster, charcoals are light in less than 5 minutes and you do not have to deal with wind and the surface area the Looflighter covers is much bigger than the torch. Stop wasting your time and effort with the propane torch and buy the Looflighter. You be glad when you can get charcoal lit so much faster.

Answer:	When we tried it, what we noticed it was getting ride of the harshness of the Whiskey, it wasn’t a smoky flavor. Maybe it needed more time, but the taste it was different it for sure.

This is more about the volume of air and less about the velocity. It doesn't actually move air that fast, it's about providing fuel/air to a fire.

Answer:	The theory is that you are adding more air to the mixture. This is the same idea as fanning the flame with a plate, just turbocharged. It does get the coals hotter much quicker.

Question:	Does anyone know that this charcoal lighter can be used with Big Green Egg
Answer:	Yes, it can. I bought the GGC electric charcoal fire starter for my Big Green Egg last year, and it still works well now. This may be related to the method we use. We often use it for barbecues, and when the weather gets cold, we can also use it to light the charcoal and wood in the fireplace. When igniting, we need to control the distance and energizing time. If ignite it too close to the charcoal, the temperature will be high, which will affect its service life. If the distance is too far apart, it requires more patience and time, especially when charcoal or wood is damp. When using, you need to keep pressing the switch and can’t walk away, you may think this is very inconvenient, on the contrary, it is very nice for us, because we can control the power-on time and use it safely. Otherwise, the power supply is always on and it is easy to cause burns or fire.

Answer:	Not sure of the actual length, but it fits perfectly with a large Big Green Egg and is angled so that it sets low and horizontally above the grate. Probably about 18-20"" overall length. I used to bend off the shelf versions, but this one has the perfect shape and is also better insulated so that the wiring doesn't melt. I only insert for about 6-7 minutes and then remove before big flames start. Always works and is a great advance to my early starting with sticks and newspaper!!

To Start:

Touch the tip to charcoal or wood and press switch to I setting. The first setting generates super-heated air to ignite the fire/charcoal.

After 15-30 Seconds:

After 2-3 Minutes:

Use setting II to fan the flames. The second setting produces high-velocity air flow to fan the flames.
