14 best electric start inverter generator
An electric start inverter generator is a type of portable power generator designed to provide reliable and clean electricity for various outdoor and backup power needs. These generators are equipped with an electric start system, which simplifies the process of starting the generator by using a push-button or key-operated ignition, eliminating the need for manual pull-starting. Here's what you need to know about electric start inverter generators:
Inverter Technology: Inverter generators use advanced electronics and circuitry to produce clean and stable AC power. This technology ensures a consistent voltage and frequency, making them ideal for sensitive electronics like laptops and smartphones.
Electric Start: The electric start feature makes it easy to start the generator with a simple push-button or key turn. This is a convenient alternative to traditional pull-start generators, which can be more challenging to start, especially in cold weather.
Portable Design: Inverter generators are designed to be lightweight and portable, making them suitable for various outdoor activities, camping, RVing, tailgating, and as backup power sources for homes during power outages.
Output Power: Electric start inverter generators come in various power output capacities, typically ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 watts or more. Choose a generator size that matches your specific power requirements.
Fuel Type: Most inverter generators run on gasoline, but some models can operate on propane or natural gas, providing fuel flexibility for different situations.
Run Time and Fuel Efficiency: These generators are known for their fuel efficiency, thanks to the automatic throttle control feature that adjusts the engine speed based on the load. This results in longer run times on a single tank of fuel.
Parallel Operation: Some electric start inverter generators are designed to be used in parallel with another identical generator. This allows you to combine their output power for increased capacity when needed.
Quiet Operation: Inverter generators are generally quieter than traditional open-frame generators. They are equipped with noise-reducing features and mufflers to minimize noise levels during operation.
Clean Power Output: Inverter generators produce a "clean" or "pure" sine wave output, which is safe for sensitive electronics and appliances, reducing the risk of damage.
Portability: Many inverter generators are equipped with handles and wheels for easy transportation. Some even have telescoping handles and built-in collapsible handles for added convenience.
Safety Features: These generators often include safety features such as low-oil shutoff, overload protection, and circuit breakers to protect both the generator and connected devices.
Electric start inverter generators provide a reliable and convenient power source for a wide range of applications. They are especially popular for outdoor enthusiasts and homeowners looking for a portable and efficient backup power solution. When choosing an electric start inverter generator, consider factors such as power output, runtime, fuel type, and additional features that best suit your needs.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I run my AC |
Answer: | It looks like you are asking abut the 5000 watt Hybrid Generator. My Eyedro energy monitor tells me my house air conditioner runs around 2600 watts. Add 1000 watts to that for starting current and it appears this generator would run my (and probably yours) house air conditioner. Consider other house loads though. My water heater draws over 3000 watts alone and would overload the generator if the air was running too. You would have to manage the loads to use this generator to power your home air conditioning. There is a larger version of this generator, the Champion Power Equipment 100520 8750-Watt DH Series Open Frame Inverter that runs at 7000 watts. Spend a couple hundred dollars more and get this one. I would still manage my loads carefully though. |
Question: | is this rating "this inverter operates at 64 dBA from 23 feet" at peak draw, or idle |
Answer: | The industry standard for measuring inverter output is 25% load. |
Question: | I know the product dimensions are listed but they don't specify which is height, length and width. Can anyone please help me with that? Thanks |
Answer: | I went out to measure and my approximate measurements are quite different than what's listed. I measured roughly 18inW x 20.5inL x 17.5inHWide I measured across top, front to backLength I measured across front from side to sideHeight I measured from ground to top, including height of gas cap. Hope this helps. |
Question: | What makes this a hybrid generator? Is it an inverter generator, or something else |
Answer: | We are using the term hybrid in the sense that we have taken a traditionally fully enclosed inverter style generator and put it on an open frame like a traditionally non-inverter style generator. This allows us to use a larger engine and increase output power while decreasing cost. The trade off is that this machine will be slightly louder than fully enclosed style inverters. |

User questions & answers
Question: | start a 13500 btu AC |
Answer: | We have a 13,500 BTU A/C in out 2004 Mountaineer and this generator starts and runs it with no problems. We leave the generator in "economy" mode all the time and it naturally revs up when the A/C starts up, but has never failed to do its job. Also, we run it only on propane... it's never had a drop of gasoline in it. |
Question: | Looks like it would weigh more with the battery and starter. Not much heavier than the 75531i |
Answer: | Rope start backup. |
Question: | How to connect to 500 gal tank |
Answer: | mine is connected to our 500 gal tank but it took some work going back & forth between the tech at champion (have to get the right one) and my propane company. i had propane company put a quick disconnect valve at the house, where the propane goes into the house on the low side of the step down valve, then i had them make me a 20' hose that connects to the diaphragm / hose that champion provides minus their regulator. There is a limit on how long the new hose can be as the pressure will drop with distance and you do need a minimum about of gas pressure for it to work. (see other answer from Champion here). Triple check w/ both Champion & your propane company. Also when you turn it on to run, the gen will have to pull out the air in the hose, takes several short cranks on the gen and if it's cold out you may end up having to pull the cord - takes some practice w/ the choke. Once the propane is flowing it's easier to restart if you don't disconnect the hose from either end. I used it this way for 22 hrs recently and it worked like a charm. Don't forget to check the oil regularly. The diaphragm must be exposed to ambient air pressure but also must stay dry. |
Question: | Does this come with the lp hose? And what connection is it |
Answer: | Yes it does. The hose connection is std. 3/8 propane connection like a barbeque uses. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Parallel is there a way to parallel these and use them to the full potential? Or get 240v |
Answer: | No. I went through this the hard expensive way. You would need to wire these in series, not parallel. It is confusing for us non-electrical engineers. It would be a good idea to make a series kit because in my estimation most people who can afford a 50Amp RV aren't going to screw around with two generators when they can buy a Honda EU7000is. There are no consumer grade (affordable) 240v propane inverter generators available. Just loud dirty power. |
Question: | The fuel is gasolinera or LPG or propane gas |
Answer: | The iGen4500 runs solely on gasoline. We also offer the iGen4500DF, which runs on both gasoline and propane. |
Question: | What is the Dual Fuel option |
Answer: | Gas (liquid) or lpg propane tank. Really nice to have |
Question: | cual es el costo de envio Puerto Rico |
Answer: | I paid 995 for the machine. I don’t know how much shipping is to PR. But I do recommend the machine. It works great |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there any generators comparable in price and amenities (quiet, light) that runs on propane |
Answer: | One commenter wrote “I then converted it to tri-fuel (gasoline/propane/natural gas) using a kit from US Carburetion (kit MSK3202).” Using the MSK3202 to switch from gas to propane could result in a large THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) since “One can typically expect to get around 10 – 15 % less power from a propane generator compared an equivalent gas generator.” chainsawjournal Or using the MSK3202 to switch from gas to propane could result in an unknown THD plus 10 – 15 % less power. |
Question: | Will this run out of the box? Does it include oil |
Answer: | No Oil! Comes with the funnel to fill the oil. Once oil and gasoline are added it fires right up. |
Question: | What are the true differences between this model and the 56200i which is more money, but seems to offer less features?? thanks |
Answer: | I have both, the 56200i is heaver and slightly larger, it also has a fuel gauge. The 56203i is noticeably quieter and puts out slightly more wattage. You won't be disappointed with either of them. |
Question: | Who makes the Engine |
Answer: | Its made in China, its a copy of the Yamaha 79cc engine. Very reliable if you take care to service it properly. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long will a tank last when only using the 12 volt plug |
Answer: | The generator will run for about 3.6 hours at full 1600 watt load, the 12V output max output is 100 watts. Probably over 24 hours. I don't think the load on the 12V plug would not make much difference from just letting it idle with not load. 100watts is about 1/8HP and it has a 2HP engine. |
Question: | Is this the proper oil? http://amzn.to/2l17UZs |
Answer: | I personally would use Shell Rotella. I burned up a couple of Built-rite 4 stroke weed eater motors on Mobil 1 within a year. I am now on year 5 on the 3rd one I bought with Rotellla oil. Run it in my 4 stroke motorized bicycle too. Still runs like new with 15,000 miles on it. I think some those synthetics have high heat problems when these air cooled motors are shrouded. Rotella had better specs, that's why I switched. |
Question: | Will this run an 8000btu window air conditioner (best I found online is the ac is around 7amps), a 19" tv, and a dvd player |
Answer: | I have the 1700/2000 watt Wen 56203i inverter generator and it runs my 5000 Btu window AC at my cabin just fine MOST of the time. The AC pulls 500-600 watts when running, but startup is quite a bit higher. When I'm running your standard Walmart box fan, 32inch LCD TV, a laptop charger and a few led lights at the same time, I've had the generator overload a few times when the AC has cycled off and then starts back up. That tells me that I'm right at it's surge capacity with the other devices running. In 200+ generator hours of running the AC last summer and early fall, this happened 4-5 times. It just required shutting off the ac and fan, and pushing the reset on the gen, then turning them on one at a time. It seems like most of these comments are based on: A) starting watts from a generator sizing worksheet (where the answer is "no"), or B) from a calculation using only "running watts" and ignoring startup, where the answer is "yes". I'd lean towards an answer from someone who's tried it with the setup you want. As I mentioned, my 1700 running/2000surge inverter works for my 5000btu fine MOST of the time. It's a new AC and moderately efficient, but imagine older ACs will have a higher starting watts, and would kick off mine more frequently if it could start the AC at all. |
Question: | Is this quiet enough to keep me from getting kicked out of a campground that prohibits generators (due to noise |
Answer: | This thing is far too loud for any campground. I also have a Honda 2000. If they are running side-by-side, the only thing you can here running is the Wen, you can't even tell the Honda is running at all. If you want to camp at a CG that says, "No generators", you may find yourself kicked out if you run ANY generator. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why does amazon call this sc2000iv isn't this sc2000i |
Answer: | While I cannot answer your question empirically, I have an idea based on my evaluation of the SUA2000i v the SUA2000iV. When I compare the owner's manual for the 'iV,' it does not include the same accessories as the 'i;' no battery charging or parallel cables. I did not receive cables although these reviews infer that I should have. I looked on their website and the 'i' includes cables (per their literature and diagrams) while the iV does not include them and that is reinforced by the list of included items. All of this is a guess, but I have been looking into this same question to determine why I did not get cables.. :) Good ,luck with the full answer! |
Question: | Is it big enough to start/run a 1/2 hp sump pump. the specs say that it's amperage is 6.9a |
Answer: | It should be depending on the start-up draw of the motor. It takes a lot more energy to start than to run. |
Question: | How much gas does tank hold |
Answer: | 7-gallon, large heavy-duty all steel construction fuel tank provides up to nine hours of run time at 50% load |
Question: | Can this run a 3 ton AC unit? And does it accommodate a 50 amp plug |
Answer: | yes I do it... my fridge a/c lights well pump hot water heater tv internet mico wave range washer dryer you just have to keep the load around 9k give or take example... washing clothes, shut off range breaker ,shut off fridge it stays cold 4 or so hrs , shut off hot water heater it stays hot for hrs... our 40 gallon tank gives at least 3 hot showers, get the Idea?great cheap gen!! fires right up |

User questions & answers
Question: | What type of fuel do you put in |
Answer: | no, it has a pull start but it pulls very easy. Never had to pull more than twice. Electric starter is just one more thing to go wrong on a generator |
Question: | Has anyone converted theirs to propane |
Answer: | The Westinghouse product I am interested in will not ship to CA. What makes this odd is this exact unit is sold online and in stores here in CA. If it were in stock I would gladly buy locally. Maybe these situations will slowly bring Amazon to its long overdue knees. |
Question: | Does it have an electric start |
Answer: | I don't have it but from what I know about it is that you can measure watts for long period of time, So - reset meter, set it to continuously measure watt*hour (WH, watt for 1 hour=60 minutes*60=for 3600 seconds), connect your turned off amp, turn it on and immediately turn it off exactly after 1/2 second. Meter SHOULD show wattage consumed for 1/2 second because they say it measures power FEW TIMES PER Second (though still will be measuring after amp will be turned off, but it is ALMOST not consuming power) - that will be your surge power - multiply it by 3600 and by 2 (because 3600 for hour and for whole 1 sec it would be twice higher) and divide it on 115, or whatever voltage will be during measurements (put voltmeter to measure voltage, or just measure voltage before starting test, though voltage can can change fast). And you will get average current for first 1/2 sec. If you manage to turn it off exactly after 1/4 sec (but don't forget to multiply measured WattHour by 3600 and by 4, because 3600 higher for 1 hour and for whole 1 sec it would be 4 times higher) then measuring current surge will be more accurate. This calculation imitates WattHours consumed by amp as if it worked with average current equal to surge current for 1 hour, and that is why you divide those WattHours on voltage to get average current equal to surge current (which actually happened only during part of first second). So, if meter accurate enough to measure small power consumption then all this will work. But remember: amp MAY not like it, though SHOULD Tolerate such thing - anyway, don't blame me if something happens to it. I would do that myself, i believe this is not unusual for amp. |
Question: | Why won't it ship to California |
Answer: | Be Careful- defeating a polarized plug can be dangerous. The wide prong is neutral and connected to ground. The narrow prong is "hot" (energized) compared to ground. Some devices such as tools, chargers, and others use polarization to reduce the chance of electrical shock. If the device, such as most lamps, doesn't have a polarized plug then there is no concern, an adapter or extension cord is fine. If a device has a polarized 2 prong plug and you decide to use an adapter anyway, make sure the KillaWatt's plug's small slot on front is aligned with the wall plugs small slot and the larger slot on front aligns with the larger slot on the wall plug to maintain polarity. It is impossible to reliably maintain polarity using an extension cord so I would never attempt it. I would never cut off the ground prong, the blade prongs on the KillaWatt are the same size because the ground prong aligns the correct prongs with the wall plug so they do not need to be different sizes. Once you cut off the ground prong the odds are 50/50 of dangerously reversing the polarity of the plug on the front of the KillaWatt since it may, or may not, be plugged in correctly. Similarly if the wall plug slots are both the same size you are once again at 50/50 odds of plugging the KillaWatt in incorrectly with an adapter making the KillaWatt itself an "adapter" permitting you to plug polarized plugs into unpolarized wall plugs. Once again if the lamp etc doesn't have a polarized plug this is not an issue. (If you want to know more about why polarization makes things safer just ask) |

Question: | Does Pulsar offer a running cover for this 12000 watt model? If not does anyone have experience in one that they have purchased they could recommend |
Answer: | After reviewing I believe the IGAN cover should fit. Also a folding round plastic table works. |
Question: | Puede realidar conexion directobtqblero a la casa |
Answer: | Sí, es posible. Pero, además, necesitará un interruptor de transferencia automática y otros equipos no incluidos. Y es probable que necesite la ayuda de un electricista que entienda el código de seguridad local. |
Question: | What about powering computer equipment such as servers, network equipment, camera systems, etc..etc |
Answer: | That sounds expensive and possibly delicate. Please consider using a robust inline power conditioner or UPS system. The generator makes plenty of power, your concern should be the integrity of the waveform. Server equipment is probably looking for a very clean sine wave. Tom |

User questions & answers
Question: | Since this is not listed as an inverter generator I am concerned about interference with computers and televisions. Is this safe to run these |
Answer: | I run my oxygen concentrator, fridge, fan, and tv and computer with no problem. |
Question: | If it doesn't have a pull start, how do you start it if it has been stored and the battery is dead? You can't "plug it in" to charge it. No power |
Answer: | I used jumper cables and car battery. |
Question: | How many hours does it run on a full tank |
Answer: | I was able to get 9 hours on a tank of fuel |
Question: | What is the thd for the champion 12,000-watt (model 100111?) also...can it be converted to propane |
Answer: | These generators will put out the standard THD rating of 15% or less unless otherwise noted. They will produce a sine wave, not a modified or square wave. This is perfectly acceptable for running common commodities found in your home such as TVs, computers, your appliances, etc. THD is a measure of the deviation of a sine wave from a "perfect" sine wave. All electricity, including line electricity, has measurable THD. If you have a specific item that requires less than 5% THD such as a UPS style battery back up, a pellet stove or high efficiency furnace control board, we recommend the use of a line conditioner for these items. This machine is designed to run on gasoline only. We cannot recommend or encourage the modification of the generator in this fashion as it will void your emissions warranty. We have been advised by environmental agencies that unless we have certified the emissions after conversion with them, we can no longer make the recommendation. The conversion company will have this responsibility. We are very sorry as we understand how common of a request this is. Unfortunately, ever changing environmental restrictions are being placed on manufacturers and our hands are tied. |

Question: | If ran through either a 120v plug or a 30 amp adapter plug to 1 outlet in the house, is there a limit on how much you can power from one outlet |
Answer: | definately restricted by the particular wiring in your home to that outlet 15 or 20 amp MAX. Unless your an electircian and know what, when , how, and why, you should not even be thinking about doing this ,and if your were, you would already know what your limits are and if you can do it. SO NO, dont do it!!! |
Question: | How much oil shoud I put in it. I received the unit but no documentations on the first time oil fill up. Thanks to any and everyone |
Answer: | 20oz. This is in the supplied manual. Recommended oil is 10W30 for most climates. |
Question: | What is the decibel level of this generator? I can't find it listed. Thanks |
Answer: | 69-decibels. generatorfactoryoutlet-dot-com. About like your typical lawn mower. When you have no commercial electricity, it will be the sweetest sound ever. |
Question: | Is this big enough to power a small house in an outage of several days to a week (I know nothing about electricity and generators). Thanks |
Answer: | It cannot run your entire house. We typically run a full-size freezer, refrigerator, several lights, and our internet router. I have run this generator for up to 48 hours, but most of our outages are in the 8-12 hour duration. I run this unit 2-3 times per year. I run drop cords from the unit to my critical stuff. It starts easily, and runs 8+ hours on a tank of gas under our load. When the power goes out, it takes me about 10 minutes to roll it out, start it, and get everything plugged in. It has never let me down, would definitely purchase again. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone gotten a good propane consumption rate yet? The description seems too good to be true....20 hours on a bbq tank |
Answer: | hello I have a 3500 w strictly propane and used it during Sandy I poweredy whole house by rigging the board .I actually powered the boiler circulating pump for heat 2 refriges and a freezer besides some lights.I had to juggle appliances once in awile but it ran great .I went through a 100 # propane cylinder it took 2/ 12 hour days and one 8hr day running all those appliances. No prob.We actually ran tje washer once during that week cause some people stayed with us |
Question: | What are the physical dimensions of this generator. Description says 28x30x40, thats huge. Is that right? Is that length width and height? 40" tall |
Answer: | I just went out and measured mine: 26" tall x 30" wide x 22" deep. I suspect the dimensions given are the packaged dimensions. |
Question: | Is the propane hose included |
Answer: | I just got mine and the hose I got is five feet long. |
Question: | What can i do to stop my propane tank from freezing in at night in the florida summer? this is connected to this generator. help |
Answer: | Having used quite a few propane heaters, generators, and torches(large ones) I can safely say the best way to stop the frost is to reduce the pressure on the tank. The easiest, simplest safest way to do that is to get a higher volume tank. If a 20lb tank is frosting badly you are drawing it to quickly, try a 40lb or better even a 100lb tank. Your frosting problem will go away. |
