The Brazilian Rosewood and Flame Tree do, however, need a hotter temperature soil to sprout, so you may want to either wait until summer when there isn't a chance of cold drafts coming in or invest in a heating mat for your seeds. Answer:	Hi there! All plants need to be fertilized when kept in a controlled environment; otherwise, the soil will become deficient, and the plant will have nothing to convert to energy. Think of it as a bowl of soup; you take a few bites and add water to make it look full again. You take a few more bites and then add more water. Eventually, it will be all water and no soup and of little to no nutrient value. Without adding sustenance, they'll be living on water alone. It's better to keep these bonsai indoors where they can have a temperature-controlled environment. When they're tiny, they need a little bit of sheltering until they can grow big and strong. Answer:	I hate to break it to everyone, but not a single person who buys this will ever have an actual bonsai. Bonsai are not grown from seed. The trunk-like appearance that bonsai have will simply never come about in a small pot. Bonsai are made by harvesting an outdoor specimen and chopping it all the way down so that a small amount of "trunk" is left. The leftover trunk then grows out new stems and leaves which eventually become branches, and that is how you get the trunk-like appearance of an older tree. Or order in the next 2 weeks and hopefully you get it by valentines day. My husband said he ordered the tree a week before Christmas and we did not receive it until 4 days after Christmas. Zen Reflections Juniper Bonsai

“Bonsai” is the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese word “penzai’, meaning “tray planting”. Bonsai are not a species but a general term for any plant tamed at a miniature size, in a vase or pot, and has been practiced for hundreds of years. People who keep bonsai favor the exercise for its meditative and calming effects. With years of training the trunk and leaves, the plant can be shaped into whatever the artist desires. Some bonsai live to be hundreds of years old, passed down through generations if they are properly maintained.

Bonsai are not typical houseplants. Juniper trees are evergreen coniferous shrubs that thrive best outside in humid environments.

Keeping a plant in a pot is vastly different from its natural state in the wild. For bonsai, plants are kept in small containers where their roots have very little space. These differences have a heavy impact on their ability to resist pests, transpiration, and nutrition, so proper long term care is necessary for a healthy life.

Pruning and Trimming

Cutting back the growth of branches, or parts of the trunk. This is what keeps the tree miniature. Leaves are typically removed by special scissors for bonsai, or any blade with a sharp edge. Do not trim the tree like a bush or a hedge, or the removal of the tips will weaken the tree and it will likely turn brown.

Clamping and Wiring

These instruments are for shaping the branches and trunk. By applying pressure on the plant, the direction of growth is encouraged to go a certain direction.

Sunlight

Juniper thrive best outside and should not remain inside for more than several days, as an indoor environment cannot provide necessary nutrition. Place the bonsai in an area sheltered from harsh wind and weather where they can receive full sunlight for at least six hours a day, year round. During winter if temperatures drop below twenty degrees, you should bring it to a sheltered place such as a garage or shed. When the tree is in dormancy it won’t require sunlight, but it will still need to be watered every two to three weeks. The leaves may temporarily turn brown, but they’ll turn green again in the spring.

Watering

Watering bonsai depends on many factors, such as the time of year, dryness, and temperature, so a careful eye is needed in learning how to care for your plant’s needs. Juniper trees don’t like consistently moist soil, so they should be watered when the soil looks just about dry. That means you shouldn’t water again when the soil still appears wet. Don’t water on routine- observe the tree closely, and test the soil with your finger so see if it’s moist. You can use a watering can or hose with a gentle current, or mister. Run the water through until it drains out the bottom of the pot to make sure the root system gets a thorough soaking.

Fertilizing

Since the root system of the bonsai is cramped in such a tiny space, the soil eventually runs out of nutrients to absorb, so fertilizing is necessary.

You can use fish emulsion or a balanced fertilizer at half the dosage, feeding once every two weeks or at least twice a month. Do not fertilize during winter, as the plant will be in dormancy.

Repotting

Repotting helps to establish a sturdier root ball, and will be necessary when the roots begin to crowd out of the draining holes. For evergreens, they need to be repotted every four to five years.

Proper health is greatly dependent on the quality of soil. A ratio of half akadama, a quarter pumice, and a quarter igneous rock is ideal. You can add compost to help retain more water if you don’t want to water often.

Gently remove the tree from the pot. Scrape away the dirt from the roots gently, and prune them back no more than a quarter of the root ball’s mass. Placing mesh over the draining holes keeps the soil from running out when watering. Then you can lay a fresh layer of soil at the bottom to elevate the tree to the desired height. Set the tree in gently and full the empty spaces with soil, making sure to not leave any gaps between the roots. Once the tree is settled, it needs a thorough soaking. Submerging the pot in a tub of water is a great way to hydrate the roots.

Question:	I've killed three trees; they live outdoors, quarter day sun, watered every other day - they flourish, go dormant in winter, then die! Any thoughts
Answer:	I would recommand using bonsai soil with very well drainage. Also have slow release fertilizer on top of the soil so the tree can get nutrients because after a while the tree roots will suck up all the nutrients from the soil inside the pot. If your location is too cold, windy, and have snows, most bonsai will die. Even expert have a hard time keeping them alive. I have been purchasing bonsai for over 8 years. I killed the same type of plant I purchased from this seller when I was living in st.louis cold winter. However, now I live in Vegas, the plant is doing very well. Either your water not enough or too much or the weather of you location killed the plant

Answer:	Definitely needs some time outside. Mine was drying out frequently indoors and I was watering it to much in my opinion. As it is a tree I felt it needed more natural sunlight (morning 2 mid afternoon exposure) indirect and a portion of direct sunlight. I also kept it out overnight on my back porch occasionally. I like to give all my bonsai fresh air and real sunlight at least a couple times a wk. They seem HaPPier..... P.s they actually get more vibrant color .....my opinon

Answer:	I had mine outside during the day time so they can get some air and sunlight. I leave it indoor for display during night time. It is doing very well and new leaves forming after 2 months. Make sure the soil get plenty of water, moist not wet, and fertilizer for tree to have nutrients. I have been doing bonsai for 8 years. Trust me it will work.

What is a Bonsai?

Literally, the Japanese word 'bonsai' means 'tray tree' or 'plant grown in a pot'. The term refers to the artistic techniques used to capture the natural beauty of trees, rather than a specific variety of tree. A full-grown tree and a bonsai can be grown from the same seed --the bonsai has simply been dwarfed and shaped through years of training. To develop authentic bonsai, Brussels grows specimens under carefully controlled conditions, meticulously training each tree with wire and pruning over a period of years. The value of a particular bonsai typically depends on size, age, and training. Generally, more expensive trees are larger, older, and have had more detailed, elaborate training. These qualities combined create the illusion of a large tree in a natural setting.

Most bonsai trees can live up to 100 years or more depending, of course, on the quality of care they receive.

Climate and Placement

Suited to bright, humid, equatorial climates, tropical bonsai prefer common room temperatures, between 65 and 75 degrees F, 3 to 4 hours of direct sunlight, and humidity levels of about 75%. If your home tends to be dry, a cool mist humidifier or ceramic bonsai humidity tray can help mimic the moist, tropical climate ideal for growing indoor bonsai.

Indoor bonsai are tropical plants adaptable to indoor conditions. Select a spot with good air circulation, but avoid cold drafts, drying heat vents, and appliances with heat exhausts. They prefer sunny areas near windows facing southeast or west. Choose a location that receives morning sun and afternoon shade. Though they grow well indoors year-round, tropical bonsai flourish outdoors on a patio or deck that receives indirect sunlight. They can withstand outdoor summer temperatures up to 100 degrees F, as well as dryer, desert climates as long as they are watered adequately. Bring bonsai indoors when night temperatures fall below 55 degrees F. Do not allow tropical bonsai to freeze.

In Japan, bonsai are traditionally displayed against a solid black, white, wood, or bamboo background, or on a stand or pot larger than the tree. Stark contrasts enhance a bonsai’s simple beauty.

Watering and Training

In fall, winter and spring, water tropical bonsai thoroughly every two or three days. In hot summer months, water daily - especially in dry, hot climates. Use a can or hose attachment that casts a soft, rain-like spray that won’t disturb the soil in the pot. Bonsai can never be allowed to dry out.

All bonsai require some degree of seasonal pruning. Regular pruning produces smaller branches and maintains the tree’s miniature size. A simple pair of pointed-nose scissors does the job. Wiring may also be used to hold branches in a desired position or location. If you’re happy with the branch placement as is, there is no real need to wire. For detailed instruction in the art of bonsai cultivation, Brussel’s Bonsai recommends purchasing a book on basic training techniques.

If you choose to wire your bonsai, make sure to use heavier gauge wire for larger branches on the bottom of the tree, and lighter gauge for smaller branches. Begin by sticking the end of the wire into the soil next to the trunk of the tree. Wrap the wire around the trunk until you come to the first branch. Continue curling the wire around the branch. Once you have come to the end of a branch, cut and remove the excess wire. The wire now allows you to bend the branch into the desired shape and location.

Soil, Fertilizer and Repotting

Bonsai trees spend years in the same soil and eventually deplete the available nutrients. Providing supplemental nutrition is essential for a healthy tree. Most water soluble and time-released fertilizers work well when used as directed.

Bonsai need to be repotted every 3 to 5 years. After receiving your tree, wait at least one growing season before repotting. Using proper bonsai soil is critical. Brussel’s bonsai soil consists of a mixture of high-fired clay particles and finely ground pine bark. The soil-free mix does not compact, allows water to drain easily, plus helps prevent the root rot that often occurs with ordinary potting soil.

It is important to pot your bonsai correctly. Prepare your container for potting by putting screen over the drain holes Run wire through the drain screen - you will need this to secure the tree in the container. Answer:	I am a bonsai hobbyist. Juniper's are outdoor trees only. People who say they keep them inside know absolutely nothing about bonsai trees and usually end up with a dead tree. Trees that are left inside tend to dry out really fast and Juniper's will die if they are left to dry. They need to be in full sun, in the humidity and open air if they are to thrive. The only trees that can work indoors are Portulacaria Afra (Dwarf Jade), Fukien Tea, and Ficus; but even those trees need to be in the brightest window where they get the most sun. At the end of the day, if you want a good, healthy bonsai tree, you need to place it outside in full sun. There are a lot of resources out there you can ready up on that can explain all this to you as well; so I encourage you, and everybody reading this, to do some research into how to care for bonsai trees before buying on. The classic mistake people who buy these trees make is leaving them inside in the middle of a room and then they wonder why in a few weeks why they have a dead tree in the middle of their coffee table.

Answer:	I had a Fukien tea that I also struggled with. It lost all leaves on 3 occasions and I had to nurse it back to health. The first time was aphids. Look for small bumps on the leaves. The second time was scales. If you have ants on the tree, they are actually farming the scales and that will kill your tree! Both times I was able to treat the tree with a water and oil solution spray to recover. The final time was after I left town and a fluke freeze hit. I had the tree outside for sun, and this killed my tree. I am a beginner with bonsai so try an easier tree than a Fukien Tea! That's what I am looking to do with a juniper until I get better at bonsai tree care.

What is a Bonsai?

Literally, the Japanese word 'bonsai' means 'tray tree' or 'plant grown in a pot'. The term refers to the artistic techniques used to capture the natural beauty of trees, rather than a specific variety of tree. A full-grown tree and a bonsai can be grown from the same seed - the bonsai has simply been dwarfed and shaped through years of training. To develop authentic bonsai, Brussels grows specimens under carefully controlled conditions, meticulously training each tree with wire and pruning over a period of years. The value of a particular bonsai typically depends on size, age, and training. Generally, more expensive trees are larger, older, and have had more detailed, elaborate training. These qualities combined create the illusion of a large tree in a natural setting.

Most bonsai trees can live up to 100 years or more depending, of course, on the quality of care they receive.

Climate and Placement

Suited to bright, humid, equatorial climates, tropical bonsai prefer common room temperatures, between 65 and 75 degrees F, 3 to 4 hours of direct sunlight, and humidity levels of about 75%. If your home tends to be dry, a cool mist humidifier or ceramic bonsai humidity tray can help mimic the moist, tropical climate ideal for growing indoor bonsai.

Indoor bonsai are tropical plants adaptable to indoor conditions. Select a spot with good air circulation, but avoid cold drafts, drying heat vents, and appliances with heat exhausts. They prefer sunny areas near windows facing southeast or west. Choose a location that receives morning sun and afternoon shade. Though they grow well indoors year-round, tropical bonsai flourish outdoors on a patio or deck that receives indirect sunlight. They can withstand outdoor summer temperatures up to 100 degrees F, as well as dryer, desert climates as long as they are watered adequately. Bring bonsai indoors when night temperatures fall below 55 degrees F. Do not allow tropical bonsai to freeze.

In Japan, bonsai are traditionally displayed against a solid black, white, wood, or bamboo background, or on a stand or pot larger than the tree. Stark contrasts enhance a bonsai’s simple beauty.

Watering and Training

In fall, winter and spring, water tropical bonsai thoroughly every two or three days. In hot summer months, water daily - especially in dry, hot climates. Use a can or hose attachment that casts a soft, rain-like spray that won’t disturb the soil in the pot. Bonsai can never be allowed to dry out.

All bonsai require some degree of seasonal pruning. Regular pruning produces smaller branches and maintains the tree’s miniature size. A simple pair of pointed-nose scissors does the job. Wiring may also be used to hold branches in a desired position or location. If you’re happy with the branch placement as is, there is no real need to wire. For detailed instruction in the art of bonsai cultivation, Brussel’s Bonsai recommends purchasing a book on basic training techniques.

If you choose to wire your bonsai, make sure to use heavier gauge wire for larger branches on the bottom of the tree, and lighter gauge for smaller branches. Begin by sticking the end of the wire into the soil next to the trunk of the tree. Wrap the wire around the trunk until you come to the first branch. Continue curling the wire around the branch. Once you have come to the end of a branch, cut and remove the excess wire. The wire now allows you to bend the branch into the desired shape and location.

Soil, Fertilizer and Repotting

Bonsai trees spend years in the same soil and eventually deplete the available nutrients. Providing supplemental nutrition is essential for a healthy tree. Most water soluble and time-released fertilizers work well when used as directed.

Bonsai need to be repotted every 3 to 5 years. After receiving your tree, wait at least one growing season before repotting. Using proper bonsai soil is critical. Brussel’s bonsai soil consists of a mixture of high-fired clay particles and finely ground pine bark. The soil-free mix does not compact, allows water to drain easily, plus helps prevent the root rot that often occurs with ordinary potting soil.

Prepare your container for potting by putting screen over the drain holes Run wire through the drain screen - you will need this to secure the tree in the container. Answer:	Ours didn’t come with instructions or food. I had to contact the company thru Amazon.
Question:	Is this okay for north eastern climates
Answer:	I live in New England and we are growing ours indoors. I planted all 4 varieties on October 15th 2020 and only have had success with 2 of the 4 . Here we are at almost 2 months later and I can see what looks like a 1 1/2 inch weed growing (the weed looking growth showed itself about a month in) and I am hopeful that they somehow transform into 2 trees in time. I am disappointed that nothing happened with the other 2 varieties.
Question:	Do I put all of each kind of seed in the pot and thin once sprouted? Or do I put one seed per pot and save others, just in case
Answer:	I think all in one pot. I think the sprouts intertwine to make the trunks thicker
