The outside brackets are mounted not to studs, but 18" OC using wall anchors. The outside brackets could be mounted wider—the wire shelving should have no more than 6" overhang outside the brackets—but you'll have to watch the spacing of the wires in the shelves. 18" OC allows for the shelf supports to line up with the gaps between the wires so that the shelves will lock in place.

Answer:	You should be able to apply it in the fall as long as you are watering sufficiently. People often make the mistake of not watering plants just because it's cool. Fall planting would actually give the plants more time to get started. I planted Bermuda grass with my centipede knowing that centipede "sleeps, creeps and leaps" and takes a number of years to get thick and established enough to crowd out other weeds and grasses.
