6 best flowers for bees

Planting flowers that attract and provide nectar and pollen for bees is an essential aspect of creating a bee-friendly garden. Bees play a crucial role in pollinating plants, which helps with the production of fruits, vegetables, and other crops. Here are some flowers that are known to be particularly attractive to bees:

  1. Lavender (Lavandula spp.): Lavender produces fragrant purple or blue flowers that bees love. It's a perennial plant that not only attracts bees but also adds a pleasant aroma to your garden.

  2. Sunflowers (Helianthus spp.): Sunflowers are bright and colorful, making them highly attractive to bees. They produce abundant pollen and nectar, making them a favorite for many bee species.

  3. Bee Balm (Monarda spp.): As the name suggests, bee balm is a favorite among bees.It produces clusters of tubular flowers that come in various colors, including red, pink, and purple.

  4. Lupine (Lupinus spp.): Lupines are tall, spiky plants with pea-like flowers that come in a range of colors. They are especially popular with bumblebees.

  5. Coneflowers (Echinacea spp.): Coneflowers have large, daisy-like blooms that are not only attractive to bees but also to butterflies. They are available in different colors, including purple, pink, and white.

  6. Salvia (Salvia spp.): Many varieties of salvia, such as the common sage (Salvia officinalis) and ornamental salvias, produce tubular flowers that are rich in nectar and appeal to bees.

  7. Wildflowers: Native wildflowers are often well-suited to the local bee population. Consider planting a mix of native wildflowers that are adapted to your region.

  8. Daisies (Bellis spp.): Daisies are simple, cheerful flowers that attract a variety of pollinators, including bees.

  9. Zinnias (Zinnia spp.): Zinnias come in a wide array of colors and sizes and produce large, showy blooms that are rich in nectar.

  10. Marigolds (Tagetes spp.): Marigolds are not only visually appealing but also attract bees and other beneficial insects.

When planting flowers for bees, it's essential to provide a variety of flowers that bloom at different times throughout the growing season. This ensures that bees have a continuous source of food. Additionally, avoiding the use of pesticides and herbicides in your garden will help protect both bees and the plants they rely on for sustenance. Creating a bee-friendly garden can contribute to the well-being of these vital pollinators and enhance the overall health and beauty of your outdoor space.

User questions & answers

Question: Planning on giving these away as wedding favors. How much should I put per favor bag? 1 or 2 tablespoons worth enough
Answer: hello, I am thinking your favor bag is small and fits in the palm of your hand. 2 tablespoons should be enough. this is not a big bag. how many favors?
Question: Have to chop or mow down at end of season
Answer: The seeds I bought for friends and believe that they are perennials. Winterizing the yard I usually will cut all perennials to the base, 2-3" above ground level. This is after the plant is brown, allowing the energy to go back into the plant itself. I hope this helps. My friends who planted the seeds are very happy.
Question: Will these grow well in the northeast? we're in rhode island
Answer: In spring it will grow like crazy
Question: how do I learn where these flowers are indigenous to? I am in Colorado and want to plant native
Answer: I'd look at what the mixture contains, then look up each plant to find out.

Let us protect the bees!

Pathogens, industrial agriculture with its pesticides and monocultures, habitat loss, air pollution and climate change - all these factors play a tragic role in the current mass deaths of bees.

With our seed mixture especially developed for these hardworking insects, we want to create a habitat for the bees that provides them with food, shelter and sufficient pollen for their pollination work, which is so essential for our environment.

The busy little bees will contribute as tireless helpers to pollinate all plants in the garden, to provide delicious fruit and vegetables and to contribute to the biodiversity of your plant world.

Premium seeds from Germany

Our Bee Meadow consists of 26 different flower varieties, directly adapted to the needs of insects.

These include marigold, cornflower, sage, tickseed, nasturtium, red poppy, mallow, small burnet and the mid-height sunflower.

We recommend sowing from April to June.

If you sow later, the flowers may not have enough time for growth and flowering before the cold months start again.

Easy sowing for a bee-friendly garden

1-2g of seeds per square metre are sufficient! The bee meadow grows best in a sunny location with deep, loose and weed-free soil. Season starts between April and June.

Sow the seed at a large distance from each other. Put the seeds lightly into the soil, carefully press on the soil and water until it is soaked. Germination takes place at 12 - 18°C soil temperature in 10-14 days.

If seeded at large distance, it is also possible to grow them in tubs on balconies or terraces.

Thank you for the flowers!

Blossom is possible at any time between June and October.

Some bees will even want to spend the winter in the hollow plant stems - so even the older, dried plants can be left standing!

It takes a few weeks until the first flowers are in full bloom. But it's worth the wait!

The flower variety of the bee meadow changes according to the season.
