Question:	I live in Ohio. During the winter, we don't get much sun. How else can i get the proper lighting needed
Answer:	i live in northern ms. and yes it does get cold here too, where i too have to bring in all my plants. i put my cactus on window shelves that get the most sun { southern}. they don't need a lot of water, of course. my do great. if it get very cold on window shelves, i would leave drapes or blinds up a little so they get some heat. that would be my suggestion. and we do on occastion get snow. all my plants make it thru the winter and i use to live in Chicago also.

Succulent Care Guide

Succulents will thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. A south-facing window is ideal. A good rule of thumb for placement of succulents is to keep them in a place where they will receive sunlight for at least six hours each day. Succulents will do far better and develop much more vibrant color when they receive plenty of light. It is very important they be placed in a sunny location for long-term success!

If for some reason you are unable to situate your succulents where they will receive plenty of sunlight, artificial lighting can be used. Not just any lighting will do, you’ll need a grow light that is specifically designed for plants. You can purchase a grow light formulated for plants, or buy special bulbs to add to a lamp you already own. The light should provide daylight spectrum wavelengths, and produce around 2,000 lumens (a unit of light). LED light bulbs last the longest and are the most energy efficient.

Over-watering is the most common reason that succulents die.

It is much easier to over-water than to under-water! Over-watering can lead to rot and leaf drop. You should wait until the soil of your plant is completely dry (usually takes 1-2 weeks) before watering your succulent. If your plant is in a pot with a drainage hole, you should water thoroughly until water runs out the bottom. After that, don't water again until the soil is dry!

Select a container and soil mix that are designed for succulents.

Succulents should be planted in a pot with one or more drainage holes. This makes it much easier to avoid over-watering your plants. It is also very important to select a soil blend designed for succulents. It should drain well, and contain sand and perlite. This will help the soil dry more quickly and avoid rot.
