Basic Gull Wing Reflector

A winged hood is basically just a reflector with a socket for your bulb and a plug to connect to your ballast. This is the simplest type of 'hood' for HID grow lights and also tend to be the least expensive, but they are not good at managing heat, and using this type of reflector will often require that you have a great exhaust system and/or a naturally cold growing area in order to keep grow room temps under control.

Cool Tube Reflector

A cool tube reflector is a variation of an air-cooled reflector that takes up less room so it can still contain heat but will fit in smaller spaces. It's the most effective type of hood for reflecting light down to your plants, prevent heat stress by containing heat near the bulb so you are able to keep lights closer to plants for increased light levels and can be easily hooked up to an exhaust system or a carbon filter via ducting. Ideal for grow tents as they have been specifically designed to work together.

Air Cooled Hood Reflector

Air-cooled hoods reflect light directly towards your plants, and have piece of glass or plastic which keeps hot air contained near the bulb. Answer:	I am NOT using a filter but I am using a fan, with one small AC vent going into the room and stays about 75 degrees even when its a hundred and fifteen outside. Without the cool tube you're going to add at least 20 degrees to your room
Question:	I have the 1000 W dimmable ballast, can I use a 600W bulb and set ballast at 500 W
Answer:	I am now using a 600 watt hps with a 600 watt ballast but I am pretty positive you can use a 600 watt in a 1000 watt dimimable ballast, just dim your ballast to yor next lowest setting, but you are still using 1000 watts of power your ballast is just adjusting to the 600 watt bulb.It is my understanding that a 600 watt bulb and ballast is the most economical of all of them, because the 1000 watt ballast and bulb does not give you a full 1000 watts, but if you have a larger grow area I would stick to the 1000 watt's because it will give you better penatrattion but you must be careful of the heat it throws off, butif you have a grow area of about 4×4 or even a 5×5 area I would go with the 600 watt.I know I went a little off topic but your ballast should have 600 watt setting so that is the one I would use , but I am pretty sure it would work on the 500 watt setting but I do not think it will be good for your light because it calls for 600 watts to be it's most effective.I hope you find this answer helps you in some way.HAPPY GROWING

Answer:	It would be to much trouble to do that. The cord is run through the glass tube for powering the bulb not saying you couldnt do it but it would not be worth your time. You would be better off looking for something else if you need that application

Answer:	i cannot answer the question directly, however i found the ballast lasted a mere few weeks one bulb broken on arrival and customer support not consumer friendly, in fairness having shipped to new Zealand the cost to return item was similar to replacing with a product from a different supplier, turned out quieter and has lasted maybe two years now without issue
