7 best led plant lights
LED plant lights, also known as grow lights or grow lamps, are artificial lighting systems designed to provide plants with the specific spectrum of light they need for photosynthesis and growth. These lights are commonly used in indoor gardening, hydroponics, and other applications where natural sunlight is insufficient. Here are some key aspects related to LED plant lights:
Light Spectrum:
- LED plant lights are engineered to emit specific wavelengths of light that are optimal for plant growth. They typically provide a balanced spectrum of blue (cool) and red (warm) light, which corresponds to the wavelengths plants use most for photosynthesis.
Energy Efficiency:
- LED plant lights are highly energy-efficient compared to traditional lighting sources like incandescent or fluorescent bulbs. They produce less heat, allowing them to be placed closer to plants without causing damage.
Customizable Spectra:
- Some LED plant lights are designed with customizable spectrums, allowing growers to adjust the light output according to the specific growth stage of their plants. For example, more blue light can be used during vegetative growth, while more red light is suitable for flowering and fruiting stages.
Light Intensity:
- LED grow lights come in various intensity levels, which are measured in terms of lumens or lux. The intensity required depends on the type of plants being grown and the growth stage.
Light Duration (Photoperiod):
- The duration of light exposure (photoperiod) is critical for plant growth. LED plant lights are often used in conjunction with timers to provide consistent light schedules, mimicking natural daylight patterns.
Heat Management:
- LED grow lights produce significantly less heat than traditional light sources, reducing the risk of overheating plants. This makes them safer and more suitable for indoor use.
Low Maintenance:
- LEDs have a longer lifespan and require less maintenance compared to other lighting options. They have no filaments or gases to replace, making them a cost-effective choice over time.
Versatility:
- LED plant lights are versatile and can be used for various types of indoor gardening, including hydroponics, aquaponics, and cultivating houseplants. They are also useful for providing supplemental lighting to outdoor gardens in areas with insufficient sunlight.
Cost Considerations:
- While LED plant lights may have a higher upfront cost compared to other types of lighting, their energy efficiency and longevity often result in cost savings over the long term.
Light Placement:
- Proper placement of LED plant lights is crucial. The distance between the lights and plants should be adjusted according to the light intensity and the plant's light requirements.
Plant Growth Benefits:
- LED plant lights can enhance plant growth, increase yields, promote flowering, and extend the growing season, making them valuable tools for both hobbyist and professional growers.
In summary, LED plant lights are essential tools for indoor gardening and hydroponics, providing plants with the necessary light spectrum for photosynthesis and growth. They are energy-efficient, versatile, and customizable, making them a popular choice for growers looking to optimize their plant cultivation efforts.

Question: | Do they produce any heat |
Answer: | Hello, Megan M.. Yes, these can produce some heat, even being LED. Nothing in comparison to incandescent bulbs, but that is why we have the recommended distance, marked on the packaging, in relation to this. Thank you. GE Lighting Customer Service |
Question: | For the BR30 bulb, what is the diameter of the spot of light it makes at 9 inches |
Answer: | Hello, C. Chiang. At 9 inches, it is safe to say, you will get about 12-15 inches diameter of light. Thank you. GE Lighting Customer Service |
Question: | Can I just put this bulb in any lamp? I have a small desk lamp I want to put this in |
Answer: | This will work great: Globe Electric 5698601 Heavy Base Architect Desk Lamp, 33.86-Inch. The reflector can be left off to allow a splitter or Par38 bulb. I prefer the single Par 38 bulb for the price point. These work great for seeds and seedlings. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this item take batteries |
Answer: | I use full light for 12 hours in the late fall through early spring, but I am located near the Canadian border and get very little natural light during those seasons. It would depend on where you live and how much natural light you get to begin with. |
Question: | How do I put this on the wall? And will it burn the wall |
Answer: | Hi, it can work for aquarium refugiums. Thank you. |
Question: | Has anyone used this light for indoor succulents? Wondering how they do with this light. Thanks |
Answer: | It is 10 watts with the provided USB adapter. I measured it with a kill-a-watt. No where in the listing does it say 40 watt equivalent. In fact the specifications listed on the description clearly states “ Power: Max 40W ”. This is clearly intended to deceive customers. Even if it wasn’t, a 40 watt incandescent bulb is not nearly enough for anything other than very young seedlings. |
Question: | What color is seen by the eye |
Answer: | If you have the lights on for 12 hours a day, the bulb should last about 12 years! 6 hours a day, about 24 years, and 3 hours a day about 48 years!!! |

When you start to see pre-flowers forming, this means that the plants are ready to go into the flowering stage. Induce flowering when the plants are ready, but switching your light cycle to 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness and 12 hours of light. This way you can finely control the light your plants receive, and sustain positive growth.
Grow better, stronger plants with Feit Electric Grow Lights
This fixture emits spectrum wavelengths and color for photosynthetic response. It also has a low heat emission and low energy consumption, and emits light between the deired 450nm blue and 655nm red spectrums.
Mount These Grow Lights Exactly Where You Need Them
The Feit Electric full spectrum and hydroponic lights can be either hung of flush mounted (except 82W Full Spectrum high bay) above the plant. For optimal light absorption of flowering and budding plants, it is recommended to hang of flush mount the full spectrum lights above the plants and mount/position the hydroponic lights shining inward on either side of the plants.
Recommended Light to Plant Distance
Plant types are generally categorized into high or low light level plants. The PAR value of a plant light equates to the amount of light energy that the plant can absorb. The higher the PAR, the more vegetative or flowering growth can be facilitated. High light plants include: tomatoes, peppers, and perennials. Low light plants include: herbs and leafy greens such as basil and lettuces.

User questions & answers
Question: | How far do i put these bulbs from my weed plant |
Answer: | When they are young upto about 10 inches about 4 or 5 inch’s is ok. Just check with your hand for the heat. As they get taller adjust the height to reach the diameter so all the leaves are getting the same amount of light if possible but always make sure they aren’t getting hurt. These lights give very little heat. But read about colored grow lights. And the more light you have the better! They respond to different colors during all their different cycles of growth! Hope this helps. HAPPY NEW YEAR |
Question: | Does this put out visible white light, or a colored (red/blue) to your eye |
Answer: | It is a very visible white light |
Question: | How many led bands (nanometers) is this lamp |
Answer: | Lol. The manufacturer will have to answer that. It is a 9w LED equal to a 100w flood. It fits in a standard lamp. This puts out vertually no heat! It is a full daylight spectrum light. Used indoors, the light looks different than other bulbs, making the area look like daylight. I'm not using it on anything fancy, just normal house plants and herbs. I have no complaints. Plants are doing well with new growth. It's the same type of bulb as "Happy Lights" use. We like them. |
Question: | Do i need a special lamp? or can i use a lamp i already have |
Answer: | The bulb will fit a standard size socket but as for the lamp, as long as there's enough clearance for the bulb which is a little large. The wattage is low so you shouldn't need to worry about output. I picked up a couple of of metal reflector with clamps. Works like a charm. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this about the same bulb as the 35w 6000 kelvin bulbs on Amazon , for $10 dollars less |
Answer: | Hello neal hicks, No, this bulb is a grow bulb which means both the color and the light output is geared specifically for growing plants, and will not have the same color or style as the 6000k daylight Par38. If you have any further questions, please reach out to us at 1-800-435-4448 or [email protected]. -GE Lighting Internet Response Team |
Question: | Is there a clamp on fixture that works best for these |
Answer: | We're using the 5.5 inch one from Lowes. |
Question: | Has anybody found a good floor lamp that doesn't tip over with this bulb? I love the bulb but my lamp tips over |
Answer: | FadimiKoo Plug in Pendant Light... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FCS2F9Y?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share I hung these lights off of a ladder, which I hung from the ceiling. They are very heavy bulbs. |
Question: | what is the light beam angle |
Answer: | As GE replied the beam angle is 60 degrees, but there is a down side. The actual light bulb of this fixture is only 2" wide so the cast area is much smaller compared to many other similar grow lights which have a larger actual light bulb. Great fixture and better light (closer to sunlight than any other grow light bulb I have seen) but each bulb will max out at an 18" x 18" area. If you are just lighting one plant it is perfect but if you are trying to light a grow area, this is the downside. |
