The Tekonsha site has a tool that will help you determine what connector you need for your vehicle. Then you can order the connector cable on Amazon.
Question: I have a 4 way plug spliced into a 7 way plug that does my lights etc for what will be my brake pin csn i run a live 12 volt feed to plug
Answer: When your order it you put in what kind of vehicle you have
Question: Is it possible to use in a rental environment, where each user downloads the app for a rental, uses the receiver and then the next user does the same
Answer: John, it will work. I guess you are saying if you are installing this in. I just use it and it work great. I call Tekonsha tech support with question. Since my truck does not have the plug. I had to hard wire my own plug that came with the kit. One wire I did not have to use. Out of the five wires I only had to use 4 of them. The lady email me instruction for my 2008 Chevy 1500. She is very helpful. I tow a toy hauler with two motorcycle. Three setting plus to go to manual setting which I like. Plus there is a button on the right that I use like a trolly brake. (Use to drive a tractor). With that button, slowly pushing on it, I was using just the trailer to stop me or to straighten out the trailer if it sway.
Question: For the accelerometer to work properly, does the unit have to be installed in a certain orientation? Promaster 7 way connector is rotated 90 degrees
Answer: You need to get the wire harness for your make of vehicle. The adaptor harnesses are on the Amazon page for the Controller. They are less than $15.00. This is a good controller.

Question: Does this fit a 2013 ram 3500 slt
Answer: The CURT applies trailer brakes in accordance with vehicle deceleration. Built in accelerometers sense deceleration and apply trailer brakes according to the amount of deceleration. Small speed changes, letting off the gas etc, may not be enough to actuate trailer brakes. I have used cruise control, normal, with no interference or tugging from trailer brakes as speed is increased and decreased by the cruise control. This is based on my use experience only.
Question: According to the wiring diagrams the controller is powered directly from the battery. Is the unit then powered all the time
Answer: You would need to run a 12 volt 30-40 amp fused auxillary feed and a 30-40 amp ground line to the 7pin.
Question: do the brakes engage when backing up
Answer: Yes. Since Echo is not hardwired to a singular vehicle, it can be used in that environment. Note: the current product warranty does not cover commercial use, so keep that in mind.
Question: does this come with any plut/pigtail for wiring into vehicle system
Answer: No, my tacoma’s 7-pin is rotated 90° clockwise and it works fine.

CURT Electrical Trailer Brake Controllers

CURT offers several different trailer brake controller models to provide you with a solution that fits your unique towing setup and budget. We carry time-based and inertia-based or proportional brake controllers.

All CURT trailer brake controllers are designed for easy installation. Most use our quick plug harnesses, and each comes with its own set of features and benefits.

For a helpful guide in selecting a brake controller, see below.

Two types of brake controllers:

CURT electric brake controllers fall into one of two categories: inertia-based or time-based. These refer to the method of activation used by the brake controller. Both types are safe and effective for stopping a trailer. However, depending on your needs, one may be preferred over the other.

Inertia-based

Inertia-based or proportional trailer brake controllers use an electronic mechanism, called an accelerometer, to detect the momentum of the vehicle-trailer combination while braking. The controller accentuates the trailer brakes in proportion to the momentum, allowing for a smooth, highly efficient stop.

Time-based

Time-based activation is less complex than inertia-based. When stopping, a time-based brake controller accentuates the trailer brakes based on whatever gain setting is input by the driver. Although simple in operation, time-based trailer brake controllers are effective and provide a more budget-friendly option.

Heavy-duty towing

If you are towing a heavy trailer or cargo, an inertia-based brake controller will provide superior control to make smoother stops and to put less strain on your vehicle.

Light-duty towing

If you’re towing a simple boat trailer or popup camper, a time-based trailer brake controller may be sufficient. CURT time-based controllers are easily adjustable for varying loads.

Frequent towing

If you’re planning to tow often, an inertia-based brake controller is recommended. The sophisticated operation will help prolong the life of your vehicle and trailer.

Occasional towing

If you only plan to tow a few times a year, such as for family camping trips during the summer, a time-based brake controller is an effective and budget-conscious option.

User questions & answers

Question: will this fit a 2012 nissan xterra with no tow pakage
Answer: There should be a wiring harness in the back for a tow package and under the dash simple plug in for electric brakes. Have to have harness for Nissian.
Question: Anyone know if this cable will fit new 2017 Armada? Thanks
Answer: We are using this on a 2009 Armada QX. I know you have to have the tow package. Which is more than a standard option.
Question: Will this controller operate lights as well or do I need a separate wiring harness plug in for that
Answer: Hi, you will need a seperate harness, all the contoller does is control the power going to the brakes (if the trailer is equiped with brakes) on the trailer in relation to how the truck is braking. On my 2010 Nissan Frontier i plugged the brake controller harness directly into the truck under the steering column (The brake controller harness saves you from splicing wires on your factory harness). To control the lights on my trailer i bought a sperate 7 pin conector harness from Nissan to plug into the factory harness under the truck behind the rear drivers side tire (They have dummy plugs on the ends to protect the connector). There were also a few relays that went under the interior kick panel on the passengers side (may be different on pathfinders). The relays are all included with the NIssan harness. Hope this helps! Really happy with the quality of the product!
Question: Will this work with Nissan NV3500 HD
Answer: I'm not sure what a NV3500HD is... but I installed mine on a Titan Pro-4x crewcab and it was plug n' play, used the default settings and it worked like a charm over 6,000miles of towing so far (a 20ft. Lance RV trailer). My understanding is that if the vehicle has a trailer tow package, the plug you need is tucked up under the dash next to the steering column - that's where mine was, with plenty of cabling to put the controller anywhere, even in the center console if desired. Hope this helps! I really like this controller, not lock-ups, no fiddling, plug it in and cruise.

User questions & answers

Question: Do I need to buy the pigtail for it to fit my 06dodge ram
Answer: Just type in your 2002 Suburban and Amazon will put the one you need right there. That is what I did and it was perfect plugged right in. Easy as that
Question: Is there an off and on switch or does LED indicator stay on all the time
Answer: After 2006, Chevrolet stopped putting a terminal connector on the wire harness for the brake controller. Curt makes a “universal” harness connector that you can use to connect the controller to the truck harness. It is really very easy. Check YouTube for a video. I’m sure someone has done a video for your truck. Sorry, I don’t know the Curt part number for that universal harness but it is less than $10. I bet Amazon will List this harness as an add on if you go to the purchase page for the controller. Be sure to specify your truck info.
Question: What is the dimensions of this unit (height, width, length front to back
Answer: Yes, it has a knob on top and a sensitivity bottom on side. The unit will also automatically sense if you need more trailer braking on emergency stops. If you have it set on 3.0 and you are only using 2.2 , it will automatically go to 3.0 if needed. It is a nice unit. Pulling 20 ft. Enclosed with Chevy Duramax.
Question: Why does Amazon say it won't fit my 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK, aren't they all fairly universal? Or is it just because I don't have a factory harness
Answer: Proportional..the internal 'tri axis' sensor varies the intensity of electrical brake output dependent on vehicle motion.

We purchased this as a direct replacement in a customer truck. Customer liked the first one so we replaced it with the same.
Question: Does it come with harness and hardware to be mounted
Answer: Mounting hardware and a pig tail. You have to adapt to your vehicle.
Question: Does this unit come with a bracket to mount it
Answer: Yes, it's a C-bracket. 2 holes on the ends that screw into the sides of the unit, and 2 holes or slots (I can't remember) on the middle part that mount to the vehicle.
Question: I have a Lexus 2011 RZ350, do you have a connector to splice into the existing wiring harness? This has a trailer tow package
Answer: Im sorry Jamie, I don't have a connector to splice into your wiring harness. The 9030 I have was taken out of a truck with wires connected to It only. You may find some info online or on Lexus forums possibly.

Product features

Spectrum Electric Trailer Brake Controller

The CURT Spectrum trailer brake controller provides powerful brake operation at your fingertips, featuring a simple, dash-integrated knob with a separate computer module.

The knob has 10 tri-color LEDs and a rotary, push-button to control and monitor all trailer brake activity.

The separate computer module can be mounted out of sight, providing smooth, responsive braking and promoting a true factory look and feel on the dash of your vehicle.

Simple, rotary knob

All trailer brake settings and conditions are communicated through the simple but powerful rotary knob of the Spectrum trailer brake controller. It provides highly responsive operation without cluttering up the look of your vehicle’s dash.

Ramp-up LED display

The Spectrum brake controller displays all settings, preferences and operations through 10 tri-color LED lights. Encircling the knob control, the lights flash, ramp up and change color based on the various braking conditions and user input.

Two mounting options

The rotary knob can be mounted onto the dash for a completely integrated look with the vehicle’s other controls. Each brake controller comes with hardware for a drill mount, as well as an adhesive pad for a surface, stick-on mount.

Out-of-sight module

The main module that controls and operates the trailer brakes is separate from the rotary knob, allowing you to mount it out of sight. This promotes a factory look and feel in the interior of your vehicle, unlike most other aftermarket brake controllers.

Highly responsive

The Spectrum electric trailer brake controller not only has a subtle, integrated design, but it also provides intelligent, responsive braking. It uses an advanced accelerometer circuit to measure the inertia of the vehicle on three separate planes. It is able to sense the motion of the vehicle and trailer while braking, to provide proportional power for a smooth, safe stop.

Manual override

The Spectrum brake controller also gives the driver advanced control over the vehicle-trailer combination, providing an easily accessible manual override. The rotary knob itself has a built-in push-button feature that manually applies the trailer brakes whenever needed to maintain full control over the towing setup.

Automatic leveling

With its smart braking operation, the Spectrum is easy to set up for any towing scenario, including a diverse combination of vehicles and trailers. It features an automatic leveling system and automatic calibration to eliminate time-consuming requirements during the setup process. It is able to operate two to eight trailer brakes at a time, making it a perfect fit for most vehicle-trailer combinations.

User questions & answers

Question: What gauge wire is this
Answer: I believe it's 16 gauge
Question: when I bought the etbc-7 kit , it came with 12ga. wire, this kit came with smaller gauge wire.. what should it be? and it is blue and black wire too
Answer: Blue wire is from the trailer connector at the back of your truck to the brake controller box. Most trucks have it installed, but you may have to go looking for it. Black = Pos. (+) from red side of battery. White is (-) from Neg. side of battery. Red wire comes from the brake switch- the part that's up behind the brake pedal. ALL 4 wires are present in the back of your brake controller, each goes to a very specific place and your kit should have a diagram and plenty of wire and splices/connectors. 12 ga. is minimum size required.
Question: Can this wiring kit be used with the tekonsha prodigy p2 brake controller
Answer: You'll need it or something like it if you need to run cable all the way from the dash to the hitch. If your vehicle is already controller-ready, as many are, you shouldn't need it. The relay and sufficient wiring come with the controller kit.
Question: Can someone tell me how many feet in this bundle of wire
Answer: There are 2 bundles. One is approx. 10' to run from battery to cab, and one is approx. 20' to run from cab to rear of vehicle.
