User questions & answers

Question: Is it all plastic or there are some metal parts
Answer: Only the chrome tip part is metal, the rest is plastic. I had my other for 4 years and use it everyday with no issues. This was a back up.
Question: Has the quality declined on these from the ones I had in the 90's
Answer: If what you were using were the Papermate PhD pencils, these are as close as you can come to those. These are well made and I have used the same one for over a year. The differences between the Papermate and the Pilot products are basically Three. ONE: The eraser - In the Papermate product the eraser was exposed on top and was much broader than the Pilot pencil that has smaller diameter eraser that has a cover that has to be removed to use. TWO-The barrel. The small barrel from which the lead actually exits is different between these two pencils. On the Papermate PhD pencil, the small diameter barrel retracts into the body of the pencil. On the Pilot product is does not and stays sticking out where it can poke you at most inconvenient times an in inconvenient places. THREE: The grip. The grip on both of these pencils is padded and reasonably large. The Pilot pencil has a slightly larger in diameter grip than the Papermate PhD. The Pilot grip is cylindrical whereas the Papermate grip is somewhat triangular so that it does not slip in your fingers. Personally I preferred the Papermate product but that is no longer available. The Pilot product is the best I can find out there at the moment and is of good quality.
Question: What eraser refill do I need? Can anyone send a link or the exact thing to search for
Answer: Here is the link for the eraser refills.https://www.amazon.com/Pilot-70001-MS-10-Eraser-Refill/dp/B002ZZ5HWY/ref=sr_1_1?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1491581264&sr=1-1&keywords=pilot+eraser+refill+MS-10If there is anything else, please let us know. Thanks,Monique
Question: Is this item a shaker pencil? There are two versions, however they don't distinguish the difference between the limited and the normal one
Answer: All of the Dr. Grips I have purchased in the past 6 years have been shaker pencils. However, you can open the pencil and remove the barrel that makes it a shaker if you don't want that feature.

2009 debut album from the British quartet. The Sound Ex formed in 2003 and, inspired by music ranging from Stax to Shellac, Sun Records to The Sonics, Led Zeppelin to Hot Snakes, their music is a 21st Century amalgamation of the fast and furious sound of Punk Rock and Soul, with a side order of Dirty Blues and Gospel. Vinyl LP pressing. Scotland's Mogwai are not only legendary experimental rock icons, but also well-established soundtrack titans - sound sculptors behind an impressive spectrum of cinematic releases (both full soundtracks and contributions): Including their last film soundtrack, Atomic (2016), there's been consistent acclaim through Michael Mann's Miami Vice (2006), The Fountain (2006, collaborating with Clint Mansell and Kronos Quartet), Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait (2007), Amnesty International's PEACE project (2010), international hit French TV series Les Revenants (2013), and Leonardo DiCaprio's climate change documentary Before The Flood (2016) alongside soundtrack Oscar-winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The staggeringly prolific force that is Mogwai return less than a year after their standout new album, Every Country's Sun, to provide the soundtrack to the anticipated, acclaimed new sci-fi major motion picture, KIN. Like their beloved soundtracks to Atomic and Les Revenants, KIN uses the band's original score as the genesis and point of departure for an expanded, fully developed album of new songs. KIN is cinematic maximalism and synth-rock minimalism delivered with the signature introspective grace that has defined and refined Mogwai's decades-long reputation.

    User questions & answers

Question: Do I need a blotter with this pen
Answer: Depends on the finish of the paper.. if slick, glossy- then yes, you need to blot; if absorbent paper.. then, no.
Question: Does the pen come in a case when you buy it with the refills
Answer: The pen came in a case. I purchased the per and refills together. I have purchased other fountain pens, all came in a case.
Question: Will this pen smear for left-handed people
Answer: I have 3 of these and I am left Handed. Any fountain pen will smear for left or right handed people, in fact so will pencil if you are not careful. For that matter so well some ballpoint pens. Most left handed people, myself included, have figured out how to write without smearing whatever they are writing with. Having said that there are some inks that dry faster than others. If you have a problem with smearing because you are dragging your hand over the ink then I would suggest you check out some of the inks that are faster drying. With respect to the pens I find them to be very good pens to write with and even more so because of the low price. If you are just getting into fountain pens these are a good pens to start with to see if you like fountain pens. I have a fair number of fountain pens and I actually still carry one of these for my everyday use. Hope this helps!
Question: Is anyone else experiecing issues with the flow of the ink. I continue to experience inconsistent streaking. Am I doing something incorrectly
Answer: Now don't take offense at this but be sure you're holding the pen correctly. The small sliver in the tip where ink flows is what should always be touching the paper. Also I've found that the ink can dry pretty quickly with the cap off so put it on even if you're just stopping to think for a moment. I hope my answer has been helpful!

    User questions & answers

Question: I am used to uniball fine 0.5mm roller ball pen. is this fine equal to .5mm? i am scared my writing won't look messy if its not that fine as a roller
Answer: It is comparable to 0.5mm, and the nib on these pens are very smooth and lays down ink on paper without having to apply any pressure like you would using most roller ball pens.
Question: Does the ink dry immediately or do you have to be careful not to smudge
Answer: Like most fountain pens the ink doesn't dry on contact with the paper, however the length of time it takes to dry will vary depending on the paper. On paper with a special coating or finish similar to a high quality photo printing paper it does dry almost instantly. As a general rule the heavier and more high quality the paper the less you have to worry about smudges. On decent quality paper, or writing in a good quality notebook or journal smudging isn't really a problem at all.. There is one special type of paper that will smudge and any ink will take much longer to dry and that is paper made from ground stones or so called rock paper, I would not recommend using rock type papers with any fountain pen ink or any type of gel ink. I take notes, write letters and even draw on occasion with this pen and pilots black ink cartridge and have had no problem with smears or smudges.
Question: is this a screw top
Answer: It has a snap cap that is as good as any I have used. For the price it is a very nice pen.
Question: Whats the difference between the pilot mr and pilot metropolitan? which is better
Answer: The MR is the name of the Metropolitan gets in Europe (it's the Cocoon in Japan). Both Japanese and US versions of this pen accept proprietary Pilot cartridges and Pilot CON20 and CON50 converters. The European MR takes standard international cartridges and converters. That's the only difference. But they're all sold as "Pilot MR Collection", so if you're buying from Amazon.com, you are going to get the Metropolitan, i.e. the one that takes proprietary Pilot cartridge and converters.

    User questions & answers

Question: I'm returning to fountain pens after a long absence. Would it be better to start out with this product or head instead for a permanent fountain pen
Answer: I would recommend you give these a shot, just so you get the hang of using fountain pens again. When I first started to use FPs, I used a very heavy hand-a habit from the ballpoint and rollerball days. Thankfully, I was only using disposable pens so I didn't end up ruining the nibs.Although I've moved on to more expensive pens, I still keep these around. They're good value for money and are good writers as well.
Question: Will these survive a plane flight
Answer: no, they will not. I took them on a plane and they stated leaking ink, even with the caps on sealed in my carry-on.
Question: are these good for school? Fountain pens fascinate me but im also going into high school in september
Answer: Looking at these pens for my son and came across this question. Realized this kid has now graduated.....maybe. Did they work? How was high school?
Question: Do these pens come in all the different colors that it has on the top of the pens
Answer: Yes the colors are the same as the tops and are rich and true, not faded out. The ink, in these Pilot Varsity fountain pens flows very freely which makes them smooth writing but be careful with cheaper grades of paper the ink will bleed and show through to the other side.
