Answer:	I noticed that too. And the paper is thinner, cheaper-feeling. The ink shows on the other side. The older ones had nicer, heavier-weight paper.

Answer:	I am not sure of the type. It is of a good quality (better for example than that used by Midori) There is a lightly waxed feel to it, nothing that rubs off. I have bought two and both look same in construction, slightly different in coloration which is indicative of being handmade (a good thing). Mine has already been in and out of my book bag many times and these will definitely take on a worn look like baseball glove or other good leather things (patina, the effect on leather not the green type as occurs on metal)
