Answer:	It’s a type of cowhide that’s treated heavily with a wax that causes distress and scratches to reveal the natural color of the leather after it’s been dyed. Answer:	Based on the product I purchased, there was no option to make customizations.
Question:	do G2 pens bleed through
Answer:	I use G2 pens exclusively with my Moleskine and I don't find that they bleed through, BUT there is some ghosting, particularly with the 0.7 or thicker. The 0.38 is good and doesn't have any bleeding or ghosting but it is too fine a point for my preference so I use the 0.5 and that's a happy compromise. Ghosting is negligible, bleed through non-existent... BUT, to be perfectly, candid, I am almost done with my Moleskine and I won't buy another one. Partly because the paper isn't really conducive to any type of pen other than a rollerball (ugh): I primarily use fountain pens and the Moleskine is horrible for those and the gel pens (I only use G2 when I use a gel pen) leaves little globs of gel on the paper so I do get a lot of smudging. Doesn't happen with my Rhodia books (my preference) or the couple of STM (Scribbles that Matter) books I've tried.

Answer:	Mine did not come with the pen. It is worth buying without the pen. My biggest problem with any journal are how thin the paper usually is and if I wanted to write with a felt pen it bled through. These pages are thick enough to not bleed, and have an aged feel to them which is really cool.

Answer:	I have both. This notebook (the Markings) used to be a great deal; I payed $6 and some change for mine several months ago. However, now that the price has doubled (and is more expensive than the comparable Moleskine), there is only one reason one would buy the Markings journal over its Italian counterpart: capacity. While the Moleskine has only 192 pages, the Markings has 240. But, while it has more paper, Markings' paper quality control is a crapshoot. I use fountain pens, and this is an issue. My brown Markings journals perform very poorly with my pens (lots of skipping and flow issues), but my black one is better; not on par with Moleskine, but close. If you use pencils, then this probably won't be an issue for you. Overall, it's clear the degree of quality Moleskine holds itself to far surpasses Markings'. When I use my Markings, I feel like I'm using a sub-par product. When I use my Moleskine, I feel like I'm using a refined and purposeful product.Try this brand if you want, but I personally would rather pay less money for a Moleskine and get a much better chance at quality paper; even if there's less of it.

Perfectly sized at 5 inches wide by 8.25 inches high, our MJ5 journals are crafted with genuine bonded leather covers in your choice of black or brown. A coordinating elastic band closure helps you keep your journal safe and secure when not in use, an attached satin ribbon marker helps you keep track of where you left off from your last journaling entries, and the Smyth sewn binding allows the journal to lay flat when writing.

Interior

Consisting of 240 Ivory –colored, lined pages, we use acid and lignin free pages for archival quality journaling and soy inks for sustainability. Each page includes 32 lines per with approximately .25” spacing between each line. We also include an accordion style pocket on the inside back cover for your document or keepsake storage needs.

Question:	Is the paper parchment paper? Like a paper-pulp? I want a really handmade look
Answer:	Yes from what I gather. It is actually like 5 mini pads (like they can only stitch 20 sheets to make the 100 or 200 or whatever pages) to make the big one almost like really old books.Totally hand done my husband loved his and said he felt like Indiana jones with an ancient notebook but it's crafted well!!
Question:	where to purchase refills for the large journal
Answer:	Hi. These are non refillable. I have actually thought of changing out the paper since this is very light. My preferred would be a 140 lb watercolor, Arches, Fabriano, or Moulin du Roy. If and when you decide to do this, you will actually have to “re-make” this item. Are you ready for that? Since I do not have a leather supply near me, I was thinking, I could get leather shoelaces at the cobbler, or a shoe store. You will have to cut the leather knots, then prepare the paper you are using for a replacement. I rip my own so I will have deckled edges. Then you have to fold it, and make the holes. If using 140 lb paper, you will not be able to fit as many. Are you sure you want to do this? I have a few more suggestions: leave this journal as it is. Record you daily life. Enjoy it as it is. A journal is meant to be a record. Make a daily entry. A drawing, painting, or just a memory of the day. My second tip is to make some simple books of your own. Find your special paper, go to an office supply store, or online and get some loose ring binders. You can make covers out of anything. Decorate as you like. Cut up Amazon boxes for cardboard. This way, you can take out any pages you don’t like. I take off all the expandable rings in any notebook or journal I buy and replace with the ring binders. My third and final suggestion is to either watch online, or better yet, take an in person journal making class at an art store or college. I am considering that option myself. One of my local colleges offers everything from crash courses to intensive Coptic binding classes.
