User questions & answers
Question: | Does having this label reduce the life of the DVD, or is it no different if a sharpie were used to write on the DVD directly |
Answer: | As far as I know, adding a label to the DVD has no effect at all on the DVD's life. We have some really old DVDs with labels that have seen extensive use without one being life compromised. |
Question: | Is there any problem with layering the labels, or should you remove any previous labels before applying a new one |
Answer: | I don't layer labels because I spent 3 months finding these labels that can work on most all equipment. I would think that it might be hard to smooth out a label if it was sticking to another paper label. If you have and creases you're added weight to the label. Although these labels are easy to remove if needed but I find that if the label is on the disc more than 3-4 days it may be more difficult and some of the disc coating could come off. Good Luck! |
Question: | What margins are used to print this label |
Answer: | Use template 5931 in Word. It takes two 5x5 inch pictures/graphics. If that fails, make your best guess and print it on plain paper, then make any adjustments needed before loading the real labels and printing for real. |
Question: | will this work on windows |
Answer: | These are labels. They work with any computer or operating system (Mac and all recent versions of Windows) and most printers. But of course you need software to design and fill in the content (type or graphics) and print them. Avery offers its own free software (Design and Print) and has an online design service too, but the software has gotten poor ratings on Avery's own website. You can use Avery's label templates in Word or Publisher to create labels. Some video-editing-and-disc-burning software has label-making capabilities too, and there are free standalone label creation programs available. Whatever you use, prepare to do a lot of fiddling, as lining up the contents properly on a label requires trial-and-error adjustments, and sometimes the software misleads you with inaccurate built-in "templates." Hint: print on plain paper first to make sure everything prints where you want it, then load the much more expensive label sheet into your printer. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you print on both sides of insert to make a booklet type insert |
Answer: | Yes, I've done it many times with the front inserts. After I print the outside front insert I type the track info & then place the entire sheet upside down in my feed tray so it prints the tracks on the back. Do a test first to make sure its right. |
Question: | Is there any special or additional software that you may need to buy to set up the printing properly |
Answer: | I don't know of any. Personally I would not use Avery CD inserts especially for the back. The front inserts are okay but I've even had trouble with them. The back are a joke. First off, they only have one spine. They also are creased so it doesn't look right in the jewel case. The Avery inserts are way too expensive to continually waste on improperly set inserts. I've recently found a much better program called ronyasoft.com. There's a one-time fee of $19.95 but it is well worth it. You'll quickly recoup the money you've lost with the imperfect Avery inserts. I use card stock (65lb) instead of paper which cost just pennies per sheet. With this program you get both spines & they are even lined so you can fold & cut them properly. |
Question: | What is the paper like? Gloss, matte? Thick, thin |
Answer: | It's thick like card stock and matte finish. |
Question: | Will this work on HP Deskjet |
Answer: | I don't have the same printer but they work well in HP Deskjet printers |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does Avery have Bluray case inserts |
Answer: | Sorry, but we only have CD and DVD Case Inserts available at this time. |
Question: | Can you print a single image wrapped around the dvd case with this template & avery's software, or front/spine/back need to be designed separately |
Answer: | I don't know if you can with Avery, I think you can! I use Surething DVD Labeler, with that I can do anything! I suggest that you play with it, is the only way to know! Good Luck! |
Question: | Does this work with thin cases too (7mm |
Answer: | Yes, I have used them with thin cases in my own personal projects. Do be ready to make adjustments, however. The best thing to do is do a test-fit before printing or drawing anything on them. That'll give you the option to either (1) pinch the spine inwards so both sides fit into the case fully; or (2) you can trim one of the sides down so you can make it fit fully in the case. If you take option 2, then be sure to reposition your artwork accordingly. You should have a pretty good case to be proud of! The most important takeaway is to test-fit first -- many times if needed -- before you cut or print. |
Question: | How do you fit DVD covers in the case? Sounds like a stupid question but I've tried photo and regular paper and got stuck at the spine. Thanks |
Answer: | It's a good question. I actually had to teach myself how to do it, especially before I started making them for friends and family. What I do is: When you open the case, bend the case back enough to where the plastic/vinyl cover practically flops down. Then, carefully slide the printed label down into it. It works best when you line up the printed spine with the spine of the case.I've done it with both these labels, and, prior to my buying these, regular paper. What'll determine your best look is the program you're using to print the label. For example, I use Nero Cover Designer within the Nero 8 Ultra package. Sometimes, it prints larger than specified in the program; sometimes, smaller. But, I'll place it on the case as a dry fit to see where the seams line up. If there's any excess, then I'll trim it accordingly. This normally works for me, but if you use any other program, like Avery's PrintDesign software (free on their website for Windows) or Corel's LabelNow 4.5, your results may vary. Definitely test with regular paper first to calibrate the software (and printer if necessary), then test with these labels. (I seriously recommend you buy 2x the number of labels when you start testing with them; otherwise, you'll burn through them fast!) |
