User questions & answers
Question: | Hi, could please give me the model # and also the interior dimensions. Also you stated that you purchased it at a Lowe's store, off the shelf? Thanks |
Answer: | The thread used in the "box triple x" stitch pattern appears to be something like 3 cord, nylon. . It is smaller than 5 cord. The manufacture states, on the packaging, the the "break strength" of each tie-down is 10,427 pounds. The webbing itself is a square weave, similar in thickness to Mil-W-4088 type 7 and is 1.61" wide. I suppose it's possible that the break strength actually is 10, 427 pounds, but that number on the packaging references no specification or testing protocols. The box tripple x stitch pattern is my first clue that the break strength is probably less than that. Nylon gets it's strength from elasticity. I's usually about 20% elastic at break. The box tripple x stiych psttern they used here is not very elastic. I'd expect a big delta in the modulus of elasticity at the top of the stitch pattern. I'd expect the assembly to shear there. I would have been happier if they'd used a 3 or 4 point double-W stitch pattern. The 3 cord they used is probably OK, though knowing the actual spec of the webbing would help decide that. If I was using these straps in a life-critical application, I'd either have to pull-test one, or down-rate the tensile strength by 40-50%. So, I'd not use them for any application where they'd be loaded to more than about 5000 pounds. |
Question: | Is this safe to store electronics in? If yes, would a small laptop fit along with another small item and papers? Thanks |
Answer: | I would say definitely not... these are for securing loads & tarps within the stated weight limits. If left out in the environment, the harsh effects of ultraviolet in sunlight would probably cause the stitching to deteriorate. WKH |
Question: | A review mentions key access to the safe. Do you need both the key and combination to open, or is the key an override |
Answer: | Did you press the spring loaded release lever to release the ratchet? If still can not release, you may enroll too much straps into the ratchet. Please contact us for further help. A photo will help us to know how to solve your problem. |
Question: | is this item waterproof with bolt down |
Answer: | Yes, they are weatherproof. The ratchet metal buckle are electroplated, which are anti-rusted and very sturdy. And the webbing straps are made from quality nylon material, which can have long lasting performance. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What kind of key does it come with? I.E is it a flat key, or the round type key that is found on a lot of bike locks |
Answer: | Flat key, like a house key. |
Question: | Does the safe have screw holes to be screwed to the floor |
Answer: | The product description says "features a convenient carrying handle"... but it does NOT have a handle. |
Question: | From the photo it looks like it has a drawer or inset inside. Does it |
Answer: | There is no drawer or insert within the box. It is simply open inside, with a lip to seal the lid, and provide the fireproofing protection. |
Question: | can extra keys be made by a local locksmith |
Answer: | It comes with 2 Keys, they are rather small with a knob on them so it would be more custom than the normal blanks they carry. Practically speaking, I rather doubt it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Help we have lost the combination to our safe. We have key but it won't open by just key alone. Any ideas as how to proceed to open it |
Answer: | 1"X40" |
Question: | Can it be bolted down to the floor ? If so, how many bolts |
Answer: | Not sure about the material but they are cheap.. so cheaply made that I sent them back for a refund.. I wouldn't tie anything important down with these.. Get the Cartman straps they are good |
Question: | Can you set your own combination |
Answer: | There's no way a 1' strap is 10,000lbs Break Strength. This is more 'smoke and mirrors' like the 'Engineered in USA but made in China. |
Question: | What is this safe made out of |
Answer: | These straps are certainly strong enough to use for exercise extensions. I suggest caution in how you rig them up to the handles so there is no slippage. |

Answer: | There are different models. The SentrySafe CHW20221 has the inside straps and is submergible in water. |

Answer: | I found that you can look on their website at SentrySafe.com the medium box is listed as for exterior dimensions "6.6 in x 15.4 in x 14.3 in". and the interior dimensions are 4.4 in x 12.8 in x 8.5 in. |
Question: | Is the shelf removeable |
Answer: | Amazon has 3 different models offered on this listing page. Two of them do NOT have a handle, only the CHW 20221 model does have a handle. Amazon's listing of multiple products on a single product page makes buying an item needlessly confusing to the consumer. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it hold a 1" notebook |
Answer: | Yes, depending on the size of the notebook (internally the free space measures 10.25 by 12.17 by 8.58 inches). The box must also be used regularly or the lid left open. If left closed for an extended period of time (few months), desiccant packages should be added inside, or within the box moisture will collect, and your notebook will grow mold :( |
Question: | Will silica or something similar help protect from mold |
Answer: | I would think yes. I do not have a mold problem with mine. |
Question: | how good is the lock |
Answer: | The lock is not the best feature of this safe. A screwdriver could open it . The safe is water tight and fire proof, that why I bought it. |
Question: | How does it get moldy? Where should it not be stored |
Answer: | We had the smaller of these waterproof First Alert Fire safes -- 2017F, .19 cu ft. -- and, it saved ALL of our difficult to replace/impossible to replace documents, DVDs of our home and contents and other small articles that I'd carefully stored in it for @ 10 years! Our home burned to the ground, but, the next day, a firefighter waded through and cleared debris to the concrete "well" I'd designed into the pantry in our home to receive a large fire-water safe. One of THE BEST steps/decisions ever made, as the fire, the insurance haggling, the shock...were all horrific and, not being able to readily put our hands on such items would have added to the pain, incredibly!Recommend, definitely, that you initially put desiccant packs into any such fire-water safe and then check contents once-twice/year. As it was with our smaller First Alert case, molds did grow, but I monitored and replaced desiccants at least once/year. Know molds would certainly have grown more easily; as it was, there was some mold. Don't understand quite how/if there was innate moisture in various papers (??) when put into safe. Anyway, no reason not to use desiccants -- and, check/replace as needed. I did, and am so very grateful! |

The entry key can be left in the keyhole using the digital lock to secure the door or it can be removed for an extra level of security. Two entry keys included. Also included is an emergency override key which can be used to bypass the digital passcode and open the safe in case of battery failure (4AA batteries included). The safe includes a protective floor mat and mounting hardware for bolting to the floor, shelf, or wall.

User questions & answers
Question: | can you cancel the sound when pushing the buttons |
Answer: | Your manual for the safe should have a serial number or if that's lost check the safe for a number on the exterior and call the manufacturer. Perhaps they can give you the combo based on that information. Or call a locksmith with experience in breaking into safes. Other than that you the only other option is to physically break into the safe. |
Question: | How do you open the safe if the batteries go dead |
Answer: | Yes, I think you can bolt it down using four bolts at the four corners. However, I don't recommend this safe. It's really flimsy. |
Question: | The description says you can mount the safe to a wall. How do you do that? The only holes are in the floor of the safe |
Answer: | The combination is pre-set, and the instruction manual gives to instructions to changing the combo. Based on my experience with safes that combinations can be changed, this one is not designed to be changed. |
Question: | Would this safe fit a standard looseleaf binder |
Answer: | It's made of 18 or 20 gauge steel sheet metal. It's double walled with gypsum between the two layers. Only the door seems somewhat substantial and is made from 16 gauge sheet metal. A good hard jab with a screwdriver can puncture the sides. In reality this isn't a "safe" it's more like your grandmother's tin recipe box. |
