Answer:	We have never used it on carpet only hardwood floor. For one thing it traps dust and dirt around the edge of the mat. If it was carpet you would probably have a ring of dirt around the edge of the carpet where the mat is placed.

Answer:	I don't think that would work well. The mat is quite thick in the middle and tapers to very thin on the edges. If you cut it, the edges would be over an inch thick and there's no telling what's in the middle of it. CAN it be cut? Yes. Would it work if it were cut? Probably not well.
