13 best voip adapters

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) adapters are devices that allow traditional telephones to be used with VoIP services. VoIP technology enables voice communication over the internet, making it a cost-effective and flexible solution for businesses and individuals.VoIP adapters bridge the gap between analog telephones and digital VoIP networks, converting the analog signals from traditional phones into digital data that can be transmitted over the internet.

Here are key aspects of VoIP adapters:

**1. ** Compatibility: VoIP adapters are compatible with standard analog telephones and fax machines. They often come with one or more phone ports, allowing users to connect their existing phones to the adapter.

2. Setup: Setting up a VoIP adapter usually involves connecting it to a broadband internet connection (via Ethernet) and connecting the analog phone to the adapter. Configuration settings, such as account information provided by the VoIP service provider, are typically entered through a web interface.

**3. ** Features: VoIP adapters may offer additional features like caller ID, call waiting, voicemail, and emergency service support, depending on the specific model and service provider.

**4. ** Cost-Effectiveness: VoIP services are generally more affordable than traditional landline services, and VoIP adapters allow users to take advantage of these cost savings without replacing their existing phones.

**5. ** Portability: VoIP adapters are portable and can be used anywhere with a stable internet connection. This flexibility is particularly useful for businesses with remote employees or individuals who frequently travel.

**6. ** Integration: VoIP adapters can integrate with other communication tools and software, enhancing collaboration and productivity in office environments.

**7. ** Security: VoIP adapters often come with security features such as encryption to ensure the privacy and integrity of voice data transmitted over the internet.

In summary, VoIP adapters enable the use of traditional analog phones with modern VoIP services, offering cost savings, flexibility, and additional features. They are valuable devices for businesses and individuals looking to transition to VoIP while retaining their existing phone hardware.

User questions & answers

Question: I want to set up 3 or 4 lines for outgoing calls. I'm a little confused about how the OBi200 can run four services, with only one jack
Answer: If you want to use more than 1 outgoing line at the same time, then this device does not have enough jacks for you. It gets even more confusing as VOIP services typically allow more than 1 call at a time. The OBi202 has 2 jacks and allows you use both jacks at the same time on 1 google voice account(number). If you wish to have multiple(more than 2) outgoing calls on different VOIP services(google voice is max of 2 calls per number/account) then you need the OBi504vs(4 jacks) or OBi508vs(8 jacks). Each jack is only wired for 1 wire pair so you need to combine them if you wish to plug into a multiline analog phone or phone system. I have seen OBi508's used with 4 line DECT cordless phone systems and the extra jacks used for fax and other things. The thing you have to understand is that with SIP(VOIP) it is no longer needed to have multiple phone lines for multiple simultaneous calls. Most paid SIP providers give you 8 or more channels(simultaneous calls) and can give you more for an additional fee. It's called trunking and it's how big companies used to handle phone lines. It's SIP trunking when it's done with a SIP service. You can even use this Obi device to connect SIP phones to google voice(as GV does not allow anybody but Poly(owns Obi) from directly connecting to the google voice service. If you really want some fun, you can run a full IP phone system on a Raspberry Pi for free and have all the functions of a commercial phone system. You can even use smartphones with a SIP app as extensions. Lots of things are possible for low cost these days. I would not recommend people buy anything but SIP deskphones or cordless unless they don't have internet service. Analog phones are getting harder to support every year as they retire the copper wire phone lines. Brandon is right and you can also just buy some SIP phones and as long as they can handle 4 or more SIP accounts you can have at least 4 different lines(phone numbers) for outgoing calls. Inward calls are even easier as you can have almost unlimited number of phone numbers all ring into one account and as long as it has enough channels, you can take/make calls until you run out of phones or let it go to voicemail/auto-attendant.
Question: So, i'm confused, you can't just use google voice for free with this, you have to pay for a voip service, too
Answer: I call my wife daily in Germany. From my home phone (Google Voice), I'm charged $.01 per minute, and I'm told this every time I call. If I call her cell phone I'm charged $.03 per minute. I don't know anybody who would complain about $1.80 an hour to call an overseas cell phone.
Question: The manufacturer does not make mention of 911 service. Is 911 service included? If so, how does it work? Do you register your home address
Answer: 911 is not included and they use a service called e911 to link a phone number to an address. You don't actually have to subscribe to e911. You need to enable it if you wish the 911 operator to know your location when you call. You are technically OK if one of your phones has it so if you have a landline or a voip provider that has it, you don't need to set it up on every account but you should not enable it on accounts that do not actually have it. You do have to check a box in the obi setup if you do wish to use the 911 services and select which service provides it for you. Since google does not provide it, you can use a 3rd party of your choice. The Obi setup will prompt you about it and you have to acknowledge that you have been notified. You don't have to subscribe to the any Obi services or any other but many include e911 and have very low per minute rates so you can get your phone service from a provider that also gives e911 as you would have to pay at least 1.00/month for e911 alone. I got rid of my landlines and now I see my monthly phone bill below 5.00 with 2 phone numers on paid VOIP providers and 1 free google voice line that's just for a fax machine. Welcome to the 21st century.
Question: I want to transfer 2 different phone lines, and I want to keep my original phone numbers. Also, does my compter have to be 'on' for phones to work
Answer: If the 2 phone lines are cell phone numbers, switching it over to Google Voice is very easy. Go to Google Voice settings (upper right hand corner with the cog wheel symbol) and add the phone number. If you are trying to change your landline number over because you want to keep the same number, it's a two step process. but you will have to port your number over to a mobile service such as T-mobile first and then port it to Google Voice (GV) since GV only accepts mobile numbers. You can get instructions on how to do this on the obihai.com website under "tutorials and tips" and then "port your number to google voice". You can do this for about $10 by buying a SIM card to temporarily hold your ported landline number. It's not too painful and totally worth it! Good luck.

User questions & answers

Question: Version - What color should my router light show when the Magicjack home is connected
Answer: It depends on the speed of your router. Generally by convention, if you have a giga speed router and the connection is one gigabit per second, the light will be green. 100 Mb speed will be Amber
Question: What's the difference between mj go (2017) and mj home
Answer: I think it is only software upgrades but not absolutely sure. It works great and is a wonderful device. It saves with about $250 a year and actually works better than my cable provider. Like getting a $250 bonus check yearly. I can’t see how you can go wrong. I like how the message system works too. I get an email and with one click even on my iPhone I can listen to the message anywhere I am. I think mine came with 1 year service included. I purchased 3 years service for about $89 as I remember which works out to less than $2.50 a month.
Question: can this be connected directly to my router eliminating my computer from being on
Answer: Yes, in fact that is how it was designed to function. The router plugs into one jack and a phone plugs into the other jack and then the unit is plugged into a power source. It will also work through your computer if you wish and if you get the app, it will work through your cell phone. It literally makes your cell phone operate with two separate numbers.
Question: What’s the fee after the first 12 months
Answer: $35.00 a year.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the difference between the OBi202 and the OBi200 models
Answer: There are 2 differences.. The 200 model has one line capabilities, with one phone plug. The 202 has multi line capabilities, with 2 plugs. 2 lines, means, if you say, use google voice, and sign up for another service, you can literally have 2 lines that you can talk on at the same time.. The 200 model only has one network cable port, where the 202 has 2 network cable ports.... Since there is 2 on the 202, they also include router features on the 202. This feature is good if say, you have no router at the house, a cable modem, and one computer too.. You can connect the 202 like this.. Modem, 202, computer.. Where with the 200 you will need modem, router, then to each, the computer and 200. One word of warning.. The 202 does not support full 100Mb speeds through it, using the router.. It says it has a 100Mb port, but, I found that at about 37Mb, the 202 worked good as a router, but when I upgraded to a 60Mb connection, my speeds going through it slowed down dramatically, as the 202 crashed my connection. I guess the 202 is only good up to about 40Mb connections going through it, on the router use part.. Anything more then that, get a router..
Question: Does faxing work with Google voice? Can I configure it to receive fax by e-mail? Can I send a fax from PC using this? Receive fax into memory
Answer: Yes. I have an OBi200 and was able to send a fax via the faxmodem on my PC with no issues. It works just like a landline.
Question: If I have two separate google voice accounts (one for me, one for the wife), can both google voice accounts work on this device at the same time
Answer: I asked Obitalk's support desk for help -- so I can answer you correctly. You can configure a 2nd GV account on your OBI. (Sign in for a new Google voice #, if you don't already have one, and configure that to your OBI SP1 slot (do it from obitalk.com). Bottom line -- you can. Bit of advice, if you buy this product and need help, be patient because it'll take them 24 hours to get back to you.
Question: What is the status of Google voice with this device
Answer: Feb 2019, still works with google voice and free... for 10 years now!

User questions & answers

Question: i have a wall set plugged into a jack and three other units plugged into regular wall electrical outlets. what is necessary to keep all these phones
Answer: It depends on whether you are using DSL for your internet. Most homes are wired for two lines. If you have DSL, it has to be put on a different line so that it does not damage your Telo. If you don't have DSL, then you can just disconnect the phone company's central office line in your junction box, and then plug the Telo into one of your phone jacks in order to provide a connection with all of the phones in the house. Again, don't plug the Telo into the phone jack until the outside line has been separated. If your wall telephone transmits the phone line over your electrical wiring to the other phones or wirelessly, then you just need to plug the wall phone into the Telo. You then won't need to worry about connecting other phone jacks to the Telo. But, you will need to have the internet connection nearby. Otherwise, you can buy a wireless adapter for WI-FI. You can purchase the Telo directly from Ooma, for $99.99, using this discount oode: http://www3.ooma.com/refer-a-friend/?referral_code=NUC4728&utm_campaign=refer_Sep2015&utm_medium=email&utm_source=referral_email&utm_content=coupon
Question: I run a Bed & Breakfast & do not want guests to be able to make toll calls- 900's, International, collect etc. Can toll calls be blocked
Answer: I have the Telo, and if you don't subscribe to an international plan and don't fund your prepaid calling account then it is not possible to make international or 411 calls. Thankfully, Ooma does not support 900 numbers or phone chat services. Therefore, it is good for someone who wants to keep a tight control over their residential phone bill. Ooma also has an Ooma Office product for small businesses. The Telo is designed for residential use.
Question: Can I keep my current phone number
Answer: Yes. You will need to "port" your current phone number over to your Ooma account. Ooma will take care of all the necessary paperwork after you fill out the details after purchasing the equipment. This is all done online. The porting cost is $39.00+tax and takes no more than 3 weeks. Do Not cancel your current land line and number until the port is completed. Ooma will give you a number to use during this process. I'm very pleased with the service thus far.
Question: What is new in this new version compared to older version of Ooma adapter listed at 109.99 on Amazon
Answer: What is new in this new version compared to older version of Ooma adapter listed at 109.99 on Amazon?

User questions & answers

Question: Can I use this device to fax over up
Answer: MagicJack *Plus* is a device intended to connect to the Internet - typically on a LAN port on your Internet gateway router. It already has a standard RJ-11 jack for a standard PSTN phone. This box shouldn't be required for that, unless you intend to replace the MagicJack Plus box with this one. If that's the case, you'd best call MagicJack and ask them - or just get a MagicJack box that would perform the same gateway function as this adapter would - and be much less problematic to get working properly with the MagicJack service.
Question: My fax machine works only on analog signal. Can I use one of the phone ports for my fax
Answer: Hi. I connect this device with my GrandStream PBX. I don't know who work with your Vonage accounts. I recoment you that find information on internet if this device is compatible with Vonage.
Question: Does this product require a license fee for use
Answer: Yes you can, "Enable Pulse Dialing" appears in the configuration for each line.
Question: Can someone who actually knows and doesn't just want to see their name in print answer if this is compatible with Google Voice
Answer: You would look for something that connects a FXO port to a SIP device. The HT503 should do the trick. If you are looking for more than one phone line you would jump to the GXW 4104/4108

User questions & answers

Question: Can I use mu owe phone number with this device on the set up
Answer: No
Question: How can we record Google Voice phone calls with this phone? Does this phone have paging / intercom compatibility
Answer: I don't see why not. The signals will be the same. Whether the Ooma Telo is going to work with a rotary phone is another issue altogether. You would need to call Ooma technical support to get a definitive answer.as to whether an Ooma Telo will work with a rotary phone.
Question: Does this work with Google Voice
Answer: This device is phone jack male to phone jack female (two ports). If there is no phone jack female connection on your modem, then no.
Question: Is this the newest model that supports Google Voice
Answer: Hi Faith. No you can't use this product to do that. There will be no "dial tone" coming out of the RJ11 side. You'll need to either purchase or rent from Comcast a telephony modem/router. Those will have the proper voice jacks already working.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I connect the Ooma to a tel wall jack and pick up the signal at a different tel jack where base phone is located, and eliminate the Linx box
Answer: Not sure what you mean by the Linx box. But you'll attach the Ooma box to your modem via ethernet. Use a phone cord to connect the Ooma box to any telephone jack in your house. Then, any jack in the house can have a phone or answering machine connected to it. Make sure your old phone line connection outside the house is disconnected. That's the way I use it and it works fine.
Question: How does this compare to OBi
Answer: I have used the OBI series with Google Voice for a number of years, and I purchased an Ooma for my mother. The details of the Ooma service and features is a little hazy since it's been a few years since I set her Ooma up. The OBI200 can be used with Google Voice to make incoming and outgoing calls for free and you can also use other VOIP service providers if you want to. All you can do with GV is make and receive calls. You can't call 911 from Google Voice. To get around this problem, I got a very inexpensive VOIP service with a limited number of minutes and I have my Obi set up to use that service for emergency calls. The Ooma is a separate phone service. You sign up with the Ooma service and you get a new phone number (or you can port an existing telephone number to the Ooma service for a fee, $20 I think, but it may be more). With the Oooma you pay the taxes and fees like you would a landline phone. This means that you can use the Ooma to make 911 calls. If you already have a Google Voice number, and you want to use Ooma, the Ooma service has a feature that will let you change the caller ID for your outgoing calls to match your Google Voice number, or any other number that you own. That way callers will only see your Google Voice number. You can set up your Ooma telephone number as a forwarding number in Google Voice, so that your Ooma will ring any time you get a call to your Google Voice number.
Question: Can i get calls from my cell number over ooma while im at home. Because of poor call quality at my house
Answer: What Matthew said, assuming you have call forwarding available on your cell, simply forward the calls to your Ooma number. Switching back and forth might be a pain. Maybe it's time to find a different cell provider that works better at your house(?) EDIT: With my cell provider it's as easy as dialing *72 followed by the ten digit phone (Ooma) number you want the calls to go to, three short tones means it's done, hang up. To stop forwarding simple dial (from the cell) *720, again, three rapid tones means it's undone. Works great. The hard part is remembering to switch, not the actual switching. Your provider's instructions may vary.... Oh, and thanks for bringing it up, I never considered it before but it may come in handy, sometimes my cell signal gets weak at home. ;)
Question: I don't have a landline now but do have internet service .will this work for me My cell phone reception sucks in the house and I'm looking for alter
Answer: It depends on what internet service you have. If it's cable and there is sufficient bandwidth (speed) then you should be all set. I have had no issues at all with streaming two devices and using the phone. Average downstream speed for me is 15-18 Mb/s and I am sure less would be fine.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this cisco ata191-k9 unit ship with a power supply for north america
Answer: Hi there! Thank you for reaching out, the OBi212 does not have a specific gateway port number for FXO or FXS, FXO port is an interface that connects your Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) line to a VoIP adapter. It designates a telephone signaling interface that receives POTS (plain old telephone service). Please don't hesitate to contact our Technical Support team if you require assistance or have further questions.
Question: Does this include the power supply
Answer: Hello! If you are planning on porting your number to Google Voice, we recommend checking if your number is eligible to be ported by following the Number Porting tutorial on the official OBiTALK website under support. Google Voice requires the number you want to be ported to them to be a cell phone number, so this would make it a two-step process. Please don't hesitate to contact our Customer Care Team if you require assistance or have further questions.
Question: What voip providers are compatible with this device
Answer: My older Obi202 device supports Distinctive ring. You just have to go into the settings and customize them. I have for Google voice numbers functioning from the two ports. And a four line phone system so two of the lines work each of those two lines support to Google voice numbers with separate ring sounds
