User questions & answers

Question: Does this phone have a voicemail indicator light or any other way of signaling that a voicemail has been received
Answer: Sorry, there is no indicator light. The only way to know if a message is there, is when you pick the phone up to dial. I needed a quick replacement and I have other phones with indicators, so not much of a problem for me.
Question: Can the be wall mounted
Answer: It can't be wall mounted if they don't include the mount in the box. Mine didn't include one.....
Question: Can you change the cord on this phone or is it "hard wired?" I like the longer cords
Answer: Michael is correct. You can chose the cord length of your choice for both the handset and the phone itself. When I bought my phone, I also purchased a longer coiled cord for the handset. Great phone.
Question: will this operated with an included ac adapter or do you need batteries
Answer: There is no included ac adaptor, nor does there seem to be anyplace to connect one. You need batteries.

Troubleshooting ~ "won't charge".

Tip 1

Ensure that the cords (power and telephone line) are plugged into the channels on the bottom of the base/charger. If the cords are not properly installed, the base may not sit level. This can cause the phone not to make contact with the base and the handset will not charge.

Ensure that your cordless handset is cradled properly.  When placing the handset in the charging base, confirm that the charge contacts on the handset and base are making a good connection. The CHARGE light on the telephone handset will be on when the handset is charging.

Tip 2

For mulit handset systems:

To determine if the handset or charger is defective, place the handset in another charger or base.  If the charge light comes on, replace the defective charger.  If the base is defective, replace the whole unit.

For single handset systems or when all HS's are affected follow the steps below:

If the handset is not responding normally, you may need to reset your telephone system. Complete the following steps to reset the telephone system:
Step 1: Disconnect the power to the telephone base.
Step 2: Disconnect the handset battery(s).
Step 3:Wait a few minutes and then reconnect the power to the telephone base.
Step 4: Reconnect the handset battery(s).
Step 5: Wait about one minute for the handset to re-establish a link with the telephone base and then test the phone again.

NOTE: After resetting the telephone system, you will need to reset the clock:

Step 1 When the phone is not in use, press MENU/SELECT.
Step 2 Press DIR or CID  until you see >SET DATE/TIME.
Step 3 Press MENU/SELECT.  Use the dialing keys to set the month date and year.
Step 4 Press MENU/SELECT.  Use the dialing keys to set the hour and minute; then press DIR or CID  to select AM or PM.
Step 5 Press MENU/SELECT  to confirm your settings.  Press and hold OFF/CANCEL to return to the idle screen.

Tip 3

Dirty charge contacts on the telephone base and handset could prevent the batteries from charging. Clean the handset and base charge contacts using a pencil eraser or a cloth to eliminate deposit accumulation.

Tip 4

Confirm proper installation of the telephone base power supply and handset battery. You should only use the power supply provided with your telephone. Make sure the power supply is not connected to an electrical outlet that is controlled by a wall switch. Confirm that the electrical outlet that the telephone is plugged into is working.

Tip 5

Ensure that the battery cover is installed correctly. When correctly installed, the batttery cover should be flush with the handset. If there are any spaces or gaps around the battery cover, the unit may not charge properly.

Tip 6

If the battery is less than 1 year old and talk time is less than 3 hours, replace the battery.  If the battery is more than 1 year old and there is an issue with the battery, customer may need to purchase a new battery.

  • DSL Subscribers may need to us a DSL Filter

User questions & answers

Question: what is the battery life
Answer: Only have had the phone since June 2013 and have not replaced any batteries.
Question: When calling somebody, the person on the other line can not hear anything. Is this because a DSL filter is needed or do I have a defective product
Answer: The DSL filter allows you to use the phone on the same line as a computer. The person on the end of the line should be able to hear you with or without the filter as long as the call went through. Check to see if the Mute button has been inadvertently pressed. It lights up red at the lower left side of your phone. When it's on, the person you're talking to can't hear you. If that's not it, you can call Customer Servive at (800) 222-3111 or go to www.telephones.att.com. Hope this helped.
Question: can you plug up a headset
Answer: Yes, via the handset jack on the phone base. Note the handset extension cord in "bought together", also check instruction manual and you'll see that the handset cord is a separate piece. But, note Micubed1's comment. This does NOT have a 2.5 mm jack. You need to use a headset with amplifier that plugs into the handset jack (RJ11). Jabra is an example.
Question: Why does it need batteries? Doesn't the wall jack supply all the power it needs
Answer: It needs batteries to power the caller ID display. It only has to plug into the phone jack & doesn't require an electrical outlet (one of the reasons I picked this set). We're extremely pleased with this phone!

User questions & answers

Question: Can the landline phone be mounted to the wall and if so, how many inches does it stick out from the wall
Answer: We have not had an outage since I have owned this, but since it is a land-line phone I assume the phone will work on the old type phone lines, but maybe not the answering unit. (This is why some keep a landline phone for another kind of security.) I am definitely not a techie so double check this.
Question: Does the base unit have to be plugged in for caller id
Answer: The remote handset no but has speaker phone. The base has the plug in handset which can be removed so I am assuming a headset jack that can answer and hang up the phone may work
Question: Does this come with the charger adapter that plugs into an outlet
Answer: I don't see one on the base or hands-free sets.
Question: Corded base works during a power failure
Answer: I can confirm, except for the cordless handset, yes, it does! We don't have reliable power in the deep cold of winter or the hottest times in summer, which is why we always keep a landline. It won't work if your phones company is cable, however. Nor will you see the displays when the electric goes out but, this type of phone is essential for potential emergencies.
