If you don't want the caller hear you, you can press the HOLD button , then the caller will hear music, and just press the HOLD button again to close the function. My father likes this phone. Answer:	It does have extra loud amplification. So loud that those who are not impaired can hurt their ears. And, they can hear the person on the phone clearly from several feet away. That is if the dial on the left side is turned up and the boost feature is turned on. I have noticed with my dad, who has hearing aids, that it can vary depending on where and how the phone is held to the ear. And the dial has a tendency to get turned down easily due to location near your thumb and that the dial does not click or lock in place.

Answer:	Yes, you can record your message. A Digital answering machine is just an answering machine connected to a landline with the ability to store recorded messages to an internal memory chip. Don't get hung up on the word digital. It's just an answering machine like you're used to. To record your message on your handset you push menu then type in #302, select yes, then record up to 2 minutes of a message then press stop.
