12 best corded phones
Corded phones, also known as landline phones, are telephones that are connected to a physical phone line via a cord. They have been a staple of communication for decades and are still widely used in homes and businesses around the world. Here are some key points about corded phones in the context of landline phones, telephone accessories, office electronics, and office products:
Wired Connection: Unlike cordless phones that operate on radio signals, corded phones require a physical connection to a phone jack using a cord. This ensures a reliable and consistent connection.
Reliability: Corded phones are known for their reliability, as they are not affected by issues like signal interference or dead batteries. They are often the go-to choice during power outages.
Sound Quality: They generally provide clear and consistent sound quality, with fewer instances of dropped calls or static interference compared to some wireless alternatives.
Minimal Interference: Corded phones are less susceptible to interference from electronic devices or other wireless signals, ensuring clear communication.
Durability: They tend to be more robust and durable than their cordless counterparts, as they do not have delicate electronic components that can be easily damaged.
No Battery Dependency: Corded phones do not rely on batteries for power, eliminating the need for regular recharging or replacement of batteries.
Ideal for Emergencies: Because they do not require external power sources, corded phones are considered reliable communication devices during emergencies or natural disasters.
Affordability: They are often more budget-friendly compared to cordless phones, as they do not require the additional technology for wireless communication.
Variety of Models: There is a wide range of corded phone models available, including basic models with minimal features, as well as more advanced options with features like caller ID, speakerphone, and memory storage.
Integration with Office Systems: In office settings, corded phones can be integrated with other office electronics and phone systems for seamless communication within an organization.
Compatibility with Accessories: Corded phones can be paired with various accessories like headsets, answering machines, and extension cords to enhance their functionality.
Simple Setup: They are generally easy to set up. Users typically need to plug the phone into a phone jack and a power source (if applicable), and it's ready for use.
Availability of Replacement Parts: Replacement cords, handsets, and other components are readily available, making it easy to maintain and repair corded phones.
While cordless and mobile phones have gained popularity, corded phones remain a reliable option for those who value consistent communication and do not rely solely on mobile devices. They continue to play a vital role in various settings, including homes, offices, and businesses.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you shut the ringer off |
Answer: | Is the ringer on the base or the handset? |
Question: | Does this phone work with AT&T connection only or could we use this phone with any connection |
Answer: | A phone is a phone, doesn't matter who your landline service is. Even a home VOIP service from a cable company transforms to analog in the home. The only phone system this wouldn't work with is a digital PBX system used in businesses. Those use specific IP phones. |
Question: | How long is the coiled handset cord. I'm returning a phone now because the cord was just too short |
Answer: | The cord is only 7 ft. You can order a 25ft cord RCA 25 feet Handset Coil Cord, White (TP282W) for $ 5.40 on Amazon to make it longer. I hope this response helped. Have a great day. |
Question: | does it work when the electricity goes off |
Answer: | Yes this works without batteries and with out external electricity source when plugged into a traditional telephone landline service. Digital Phone like xfinity or At&t U-Verse may not work in a power outage because the phone line will be powered by a cable modem/router which gets it's power from your 120vac wall outlet. I bought a UPS battery backup formy cable modem and PC so they stay powered on for up to 60 min on a power outage. Assuming the cable provider still has electricity and their servers and internet don't go down, you should still have phone service. Even cellular companies can lose electricity causing an phone outage. Historically Old fashioned landline has been the most reliable in power outages. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this phone have a voicemail indicator light or any other way of signaling that a voicemail has been received |
Answer: | Sorry, there is no indicator light. The only way to know if a message is there, is when you pick the phone up to dial. I needed a quick replacement and I have other phones with indicators, so not much of a problem for me. |
Question: | Can the be wall mounted |
Answer: | It can't be wall mounted if they don't include the mount in the box. Mine didn't include one..... |
Question: | Can you change the cord on this phone or is it "hard wired?" I like the longer cords |
Answer: | Michael is correct. You can chose the cord length of your choice for both the handset and the phone itself. When I bought my phone, I also purchased a longer coiled cord for the handset. Great phone. |
Question: | will this operated with an included ac adapter or do you need batteries |
Answer: | There is no included ac adaptor, nor does there seem to be anyplace to connect one. You need batteries. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the landline phone be mounted to the wall and if so, how many inches does it stick out from the wall |
Answer: | We have not had an outage since I have owned this, but since it is a land-line phone I assume the phone will work on the old type phone lines, but maybe not the answering unit. (This is why some keep a landline phone for another kind of security.) I am definitely not a techie so double check this. |
Question: | Does the base unit have to be plugged in for caller id |
Answer: | The remote handset no but has speaker phone. The base has the plug in handset which can be removed so I am assuming a headset jack that can answer and hang up the phone may work |
Question: | Does this come with the charger adapter that plugs into an outlet |
Answer: | I don't see one on the base or hands-free sets. |
Question: | Corded base works during a power failure |
Answer: | I can confirm, except for the cordless handset, yes, it does! We don't have reliable power in the deep cold of winter or the hottest times in summer, which is why we always keep a landline. It won't work if your phones company is cable, however. Nor will you see the displays when the electric goes out but, this type of phone is essential for potential emergencies. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this phone backlit |
Answer: | I know it's been two years, but I searched for and found a picture of this phone laying on its back, and there is definitely an RJ11 modular connector on this phone. So you could use it with a headset if you kept a brick or similar hard, heavy thing nearby to hang up your phone with. I'll post a link to the picture. maybe it'll stay. https://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi/bQSYgUOL2VaeQTPN.medium |
Question: | Looking for a land line phone that work even though the electricty is off |
Answer: | You have a choice of using the automatic announcement or you can make your own by pressing Menu Select. Press it again and select Answering System. Then press ID or DIR to select "Record New" The system will tell you to announce your message, then press 5 when you are done. Then your own announcement will play. To listen to your own announcement again, scroll to "Play Current" and press Menu/Select. You can always change your message or go back to the recorded announcement. Just do things in reverse. The recorded announcement is a permanent part of the system, so you don't have to worry about it being deleted. Hope this helps. Regards, Paul |
Question: | Can you program frequently used numbers |
Answer: | That description about "2 non-standard batteries" appears to be in error. The manual for this phone is available at http://cdn-media-att.vtp-media.com/ecp/documents//product_Product/1889//8359/CL4940_UM_6.pdf. If you look through the manual carefully, you will see that it specifies a power adapter, but makes no mention of batteries. On page 13 of the manual, it says:This telephone provides minimal functionality during a power failure. When AC power is not available, the screen is blank and many telephone features do not function. Only touch-tone dialing and handset volume adjustment are supported. The telephone uses power from the telephone line to enable you to make and answer calls using only the handset and dialing keys. |
Question: | How do i stop it from saying private caller when i call out and read my name instead |
Answer: | Yes. It can be used as a wall phone. It can be used as a desk phone or a wall phone. |
