13 best amplified phones
Amplified phones are specialized telephone devices designed to enhance the audio output for individuals with hearing impairments or those who require louder sound during phone conversations. These phones are particularly useful for seniors, individuals with hearing loss, or anyone who may struggle to hear clearly on a standard telephone. Here are some key features and aspects related to amplified phones:
Amplified Sound: Amplified phones have built-in amplification technology that increases the volume of both incoming and outgoing calls. This amplification can be adjusted to suit the user's preferences, making it easier to hear conversations.
Tone Control: Many amplified phones offer tone control settings to adjust the pitch or frequency of the sound. This customization helps individuals with different types of hearing loss find the optimal sound quality.
Visual Indicators: Some models include visual indicators such as flashing lights or LED displays to alert users to incoming calls. This is especially useful for individuals with hearing impairments who may not hear the ringtone.
Hearing Aid Compatibility: Amplified phones are often compatible with hearing aids. They can be used with telecoil (T-coil) technology or through direct audio input for a seamless experience.
Speakerphone and Headset Options: Many amplified phones come with speakerphone functionality and headset jacks, allowing users to switch between different audio options for convenience.
Large Buttons and Display: To make dialing and reading the screen easier, amplified phones often feature large, easy-to-press buttons and clear displays with high contrast.
Caller ID and Phonebook: These phones typically include caller ID and phonebook features to help users identify callers and store frequently used numbers.
Amplification Levels: Amplified phones may offer various levels of amplification, usually measured in decibels (dB), so users can find the right level for their hearing needs.
Emergency Features: Some models may have emergency buttons or speed-dial options for quick access to emergency services or contacts.
Battery Backup: Many amplified phones include battery backup options to ensure they can be used during power outages.
Portable Models: There are also portable amplified phones with cordless handsets, providing users with flexibility and mobility around their home or office.
Additional Features: Depending on the model, these phones may have additional features like call blocking, answering machines, and call recording.
Amplified phones are an essential tool for individuals with hearing challenges, as they help facilitate clear and effective communication over the telephone. When selecting an amplified phone, it's important to consider the specific needs of the user, including the degree of hearing loss and any additional features that may be helpful.

User questions & answers
Question: | When using the headset is it amplified well enough to hear sources that have low volume from the other end. Support centers etc |
Answer: | This phone is amplified really well. I always leave the volume as far down as it will go unless someone is not coming through very well and then I bump it up a notch or two. It is better than the average phone as far as sound coming through. |
Question: | Does it play your recorded announcement out loud every time a message is left on the answering machine |
Answer: | Yes I plays my recorded announcement out loud. I like most of the features except for the volume and clarity control. It's kind of fun to hear a voice telling me who is calling (frankly, in the beginning I didn't like it ). |
Question: | sound amplifier on phone |
Answer: | No, there is no sound amplifier. You can just adjust the volume and equalize the sound for bass and treble but the sound overall is low, lower than the old phone. Not recommended for people with hearing problems. |
Question: | can you use a headphone |
Answer: | Headset for this phone uses a 2.5mm male plug. Most headsets come with a 3.5mm male plug so you have to buy a 3.5mm female to 2.5mm male adapter to adapt the headset plug. There are some Panasonic headsets that already have a 2.5mm male plug but many complained that they could not hear well with them. Best to use a headset you already have that you know you like with an adapter |

Question: | Do the photo buttons light up when the assigned number calls the phone |
Answer: | Hi - The photo speed dial buttons will not light up if the assigned number calls the VTech SN5147. Instead, the Caller ID is displayed on the screen of the base and handset if you are subscribed to Caller ID service from your provider. Also, the Visual Ringer Indicator on the base and handset flashes. Thank you for your interest! |
Question: | Is answering machine included |
Answer: | Yes it is, and messages are crystal clear. You can even press a button on your device that will slow down the callers messages which comes in very handy when jotting down notes or phone numbers that the caller may leave. |
Question: | Can you program 911 into it |
Answer: | Sean - Yes, the VTech SN5127 has four photo speed dial locations which you can use to program 911. Thank you for your interest! |
Question: | What is the picture size for the SN |
Answer: | Terrible. I returned the handset for just that reason. The base station allows pictures just barely big enough for someone with decent eyesight to recognize the person. The 5307 keys are rectangles, not squares, and probably about 3/4” high. Names in a large font would work better. |

What's a Smart Call Blocker?
This system lets you block nuisance callers on the spot with one touch. What's more, it can filter robocalls and unwanted call while allowing welcome calls to get through. For screen out robocalls, set it to ask the callers to press the pound key. For screen out unknown callers, set it to ask the callers to record their names and press the pound key. After your caller completes the request, the phone rings and announces the caller's name. You then can choose to block or answer the call, or forward the call to the answering system.
Never forget whose number is whose
Program eight frequently dialed phone numbers and attach a photo to each one for convenient speed dialing.
Setting up your system just got easier
Talking prompts walk you through the setup of your new phone's digital answering system, so you can be confident it's ready to record. Digitally record up to 22 minutes of incoming messages, outgoing announcements, and memos. The system also allows for slow playback, selective save or delete, and skipping or repeating messages from the handset and base, and remote access to listen to messages.
Easy to use
The large orange lighted display is designed for easy reading even in darker places. The buttons are generous in size measured to 15 x 12 mm, and placed with a 3 mm gap in between, easy for the elderly fingers to target and press. You can choose whether the digits are to be announced whenever you press the number keys. Another level of insurance to help the elderly to dial out the correct number, further reduce the chance of miss-dialing.
Instantly boost the volume
The Audio Assist feature can temporarily increases overall volume by up to 50dB and enhances sound frequencies that make speech easier to understand. It is easy to use, just one press on the button on right side of the handset. Press again to turn off.
Ringer level from 5 to Ringer Off
The extra-loud ringer makes it easy to hear incoming calls throughout your home. You can set the ringer volume level of the cordless handset and telephone base to one of five levels, or turn the ringer off. Simply press Menu / Ringers / Handset or Base / Ringer Volume / Select.
Volume control made easy
The volume control key is set on the handset's upper right side, and on the right side of the base unit, so that one can easily use it during conversation either using the handsets or the base speaker. The volume control is a big shaft key sliding upward or downward, a design particularly helpful for the elderly who often find their sense of touch weakened over time.
Hear comfortably
Unlike the mobile phones that are usually having a smaller, flat and easily heat up earpiece, this phone's extra-large ear cup is designed for hearing comfort of longer conversations. The roomy ear cup is also ideal for hearing aid users. The equalizer button on the left side of the cordless handset lets you change on the incoming voice level instantly to a lower or higher frequency best suit your hearing preference.
Talk freely
Enjoy a speakerphone that can keep up with your calls. Increase participation by allowing both ends to speak and be heard at the same time, for conversations that are more true to life.
Added peace of mind
The Audio Assist/SOS button on the cordless handset can function as emergency button lets you quickly page other system devices in the house, and call the preset external numbers for help. You can preset up to five SOS numbers and with your recorded message. Notes: do not solely rely on the SOS button for getting help in case of emergency. The functionality is dependent on the phone settings and network availability.
Secured by line power mode
Enjoy the freedom and mobility of a cordless handset and the confidence of knowing the location of the corded unit. Furthermore, the base unit is supported by Line powered mode. In the event of an outage, the system uses power generated from the telephone line to place and receive calls on the corded handset - no batteries necessary.
More safety around the house

User questions & answers
Question: | Dimensions of handset |
Answer: | You can use a 220 Volt to 110/120 Volt transformer. You don't need a high wattage transformer for this unit. They are inexpensive, small in size, and can be found in any country including here via Amazon. NOTE: Hazard! Be sure you do not connect a hairdryer, a coffee maker, or any appliance that requires high wattage, to the above transformer. There ARE more powerful transformers on the market for that purpose. |
Question: | Is the volume adjustable? We don't always want the phone to be really loud |
Answer: | Hello! This unit does not have a headphone jack. |
Question: | Which head set works with this phone |
Answer: | Using a Bluetooth headset (optional) By pairing a Bluetooth headset to the base unit, you can enjoy hands-free conversations when talking on landline calls. Important: R Your Bluetooth headset must support the Headset Profile (HSP) specification. R Only 1 Bluetooth headset can be paired to the base unit. R Only 2 Bluetooth devices can be used with the unit at the same time (for example, 2 cellular lines, or the headset and 1 cellular line*1). R For best performance, we recommend using your Bluetooth headset within 1 m (3.3 feet) of the base unit. The base unit can communicate with Bluetooth headsets within an approximately 10 m (33 feet) range. *1 You cannot use a Bluetooth headset to talk on a cellular line. |
Question: | Can the option for the caller ID to "Talk" be muted |
Answer: | The phone must be hooked up to a landline or internet phone service such as magic jack or ooma to work at all. Then you can connect it by Bluetooth to your cell phone but it does not not work over the cell network |

Question: | will this phone work with a digital phone signal from a cable/internet/phone company, or does it need to be a wired landline |

You can use the key pad to dial a number with or without the 6 preset speed dials being programmed.
