User questions & answers

Question: The specs say 45 inches in length. Is that correct? Most cases I see are shorter than that. What hard case would you recommend
Answer: Just measured it, 40 to 41" max. Hope this helped.
Question: I prefer an openback banjo. can the resonator be removed to make an openback? thanks, Dave L
Answer: Yes, the resonator can be removed, however, the two piece flange will remain in place. You may not like the looks of the flange with no resonator. The flange secures the tension hoop brackets. Some banjos use a bracket and shoe to secure the tension hoop. This model is a very good value.
Question: Does it come with strings
Answer: Yes it does. Thank you
Question: where can I find a case to fit this banjo
Answer: roxy music has a gator jet pack banjo case for $95

    User questions & answers

Question: Is this item easy to use
Answer: Yes it is a glossy finish
    Question: Were is it made
Answer: Mine didn’t. I ordered a soft case for it for about $25, which works well.
Question: Does it have a truss rod
Answer: I am a Bass Player that decided for Christmas I wanted to learn to play the Mandolin. This instrument is probably nicer and of higher quality than someone on a whim might purchase. I actually did the setup from you tube which was nothing but aligning the bridge as the strings are shipped in place but relaxed. String height was proper as shipped. I consider it to have a good sound. I have not plugged it up as of yet.
Question: is the bridge an arch or flat top
Answer: It must be specifically designed for an F style mandolin. I would suggest you order one directly from this Mandolins manufacturer as the ones I have tried that are just a "general" Mandolin case don't have enough room for this instrument to fit properly inside. Also, if you decide to order this Mandolin, it's really a good idea to purchase the insurance that is offered, but that's up to you. Good Luck!

    Deering Goodtime 2 5-String Banjo

    Deering

Based on 77 reviews Check latest price

    Product description

A resonator back provides more projection of sound in the Goodtime 2. It's made here in the USA, at the Deering shop with the same tooling used to make the top of the line banjos. Greg Deering designed the Goodtime banjos because there were no low priced banjos of enough quality for people to actually learn on without difficulty or giving up. He remembers what it was like to want a good banjo and not be able to afford one, so his gift to others is the Goodtime banjo line.

    • Slender rock maple neck
    • Sealed geared tuners
    • Three-ply maple rim
    • Adjustable tailpiece
    • Single Bound Maple Resonator

    User questions & answers

Question: Does this banjo come with a case
Answer: The banjo does not come with a case.
Question: I don't see the arm shield on the banjo in the picture, is this not included and must be purchased separate
Answer: I failed to mention in my first answer to your question. Yes, the Deering Goodtime 2 banjo does come with an arm rest.
Question: I am a newbie. Is this banjo worth it? I really want to learn to play and I have heard great things about Deering banjos
Answer: One thing to keep in mind is that the better the instrument, the higher the resale value. So yes, the Oscar Schmidt is less expensive and gives a good bang for the buck, but if you want to resell the Oscar Schmidt later, you will not get your money back. If you buy a Dearing Goodtime and take good care of it, you will later be able to sell if for about what you paid for it. This holds with guitars as well. If you buy an Epiphone Les Paul you will have to sell it at a loss later, but if you buy a Gibson Les Paul Standard (which is not cheap), you might actually be able to sell it 25 years later for more than what you paid for it. The value of high quality instruments goes up over time and has done so consistently for the past 60 years. You might still think the Oscar Schmidt or Epiphone or Squier (the label that makes budget versions of Fender guitars) is a better choice for you and that the eventual loss of $200 or $400 or whatever (depending on how much you spend on the budget instrument) is no big deal. One other thing to keep in mind is that more expensive instruments are usually (though not always) easier to play. For instance, i first learned to play guitar on a used Yamaha with a slightly bent neck. It was HARD. A couple of decades later i got a midrange Taylor and almost overnight i became a vastly better guitarist. Likewise, i got an Epiphone to learn electric on, but a few later when i upgraded to a PRS, I was shocked at how quickly i made progress with the new guitar. I later got a Dearing to learn banjo on, mainly because i suspected i would make more progress with it. I don't know if it really helped, but my bias today is that I prefer to buy a premium instrument both so that it will be easier to play and so that it will bring more money when and if I sell it.
Question: Can it be played without the resonator and is the resonator easily removed
Answer: Yes it can. The resonator simply adds volume to the banjo by projecting the sound forward. It just takes a minute or two to remove it. All that is needed is a phillips head screwdriver.

    User questions & answers

Question: Does this Mandolin come with a hard case
Answer: I don't know if it has a truss rod, but I can tell you I've owned this mandolin for about 6 months and it hardly ever goes out of tune and I play it a few times a week. When not in use I store it in a case with a Oasis mandolin humidifier, which is something I read about that was recommended by other mandolin players. Overall, I've been very happy with it.
Question: does this come with a case
Answer: Mohagany, the product description section has all the info actually
Question: The mandolin came with a piece of plastic/foam under the bridge, is it supposed to stay there or should I remove it
Answer: If you mean setup of the bridge and neck adjustments, No, it is not provided by the sellers or Ibanez.
    Question: does it come set-up
    Answer: It projects just fine.

    User questions & answers

Question: Does the tuner work for all string instruments
Answer: Unfortunately no, I only have the deck designed for 6 string guitars.
Question: How would you tune the smaller size banjo, also size wise would you say concert or tenor ukulele
Answer: Hi Jay - There isn't currently a deck designed specifically for bass guitars at the moment. This deck however can still be very useful to a bass player. For example all of the note cards, interval cards, key cards and theory cards will still apply. The only cards that might not apply well are the chord cards and the scale cards because it might be tricky for a bass player to visualize removing the last 2 strings. I hope that helps.
Question: Is there a left hand version available
Answer: Hey! This deck is intended for both left handed and right handed players, charts are written the same regardless of what your primary hand is.
Question: Can someone tell me why they suggest tuning to open c as opposed to open g
Answer: Can you please send me an email at [email protected] and I'll send you a copy of the pdf.
