13 best mixer with compressor
A mixer with a compressor is a piece of audio equipment commonly used in the field of studio recording and live sound reinforcement. It's designed to help control the dynamic range of audio signals, ensuring that quieter sounds are brought up in volume while preventing louder sounds from distorting. Here's what you need to know about this device:
Mixer Basics: A mixer is an essential component of any audio setup, whether in a studio or for live performances. It allows you to combine and adjust the levels of multiple audio sources, such as microphones, instruments, or playback devices.
Compressor Function: The compressor is a built-in feature of some mixers. It's an audio processing tool that automatically reduces the dynamic range of audio signals. This means it makes the loud parts of a sound quieter and the quiet parts louder, resulting in a more balanced and controlled audio output.
Dynamic Range Control: Compressors are particularly useful for managing dynamic range. For example, when a vocalist sings softly and then belts out a loud note, a compressor can help maintain a consistent volume level. It does this by attenuating (reducing) the volume when it exceeds a certain threshold.
Threshold, Ratio, Attack, and Release: Compressors typically have settings like threshold, ratio, attack, and release. The threshold determines the level at which compression starts. The ratio sets the amount of compression applied. Attack and release control how quickly the compressor responds to changes in audio levels and how long it takes to return to normal.
Applications:
- Studio Recording: In the studio, mixers with compressors are commonly used to control vocal dynamics, make bass guitars more consistent, and refine the sound of drums and other instruments.
- Live Sound: For live performances, mixers with compressors are beneficial in ensuring that vocals and instruments are well-balanced and that sudden spikes in volume don't overwhelm the audience.
Parallel Compression: Some mixers offer the option of parallel compression, where you can mix the compressed and uncompressed signals to achieve a desired balance of dynamics. This allows for a more natural sound while still benefiting from the compressor's control.
Quality and Features: The quality of built-in compressors in mixers can vary. High-end mixers often provide more precise and transparent compression, while budget mixers might have more basic compressor functions.
External Compressors: In some cases, users may prefer using external compressors connected to a mixer for more control and specialized compression options.
In summary, a mixer with a compressor is a versatile tool for audio engineers and musicians, helping them achieve more consistent and controlled sound in both studio and live settings. Understanding the various settings and how to use them effectively is crucial for getting the most out of this equipment.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I add echo and reverb at to the mic |
Answer: | Hi. Any of the onboard effects will work with the with Mic channels. One effect at a time, though. |
Question: | Is this mixer capable of "mix minus" configuration? If so how is it done? I cant seem to get it to produce any audio from the "fx send" port |
Answer: | been trying to determine this for my own setup. thus far it seems No as the AUX is post fader. im trying to isolate the mic on the FX send and have it removed from the main mix.. nothing seems to allow this to happen. i can get the FX send to work but if the usb and the FX send are connected to the same source, both signals carry the mic audio... |
Question: | Can this do multitrack recording |
Answer: | This is a mixer and not any type of recording device. This operates on USB and does not have any recording capability built-in. This is used to record multiple sources at one time and make that into one Stereo/Mono audio output that can be used with a recording software, streaming software, or even a live speaker system. You can record the main output via computer, but even then, this will all be one audio stream, not one for each separate channel. |
Question: | who made it |
Answer: | Probably someone who works for Yamaha. |

Yamaha MG Series Mixers
For more than a century, Yamaha has been building a legacy of superior craftsmanship and innovation exemplified in all of our products, from an unrivaled catalog of world-class musical instruments to touring-grade professional audio. Now in its third incarnation, the MG Series embodies this pursuit of design excellence, and incorporates some of the same technologies developed for use in high-end professional consoles, including studio-quality preamps, powerful digital processing, and a rugged, reliable construction.
With an intuitive, easy-to-use interface, the MG Series boasts an extensive lineup of compact mixing consoles with models ranging from six to twenty channels, suitable for a diverse range of users and applications. For installed, recording, or live music settings, the solid construction and flexible design of these consoles lets you shape your sound with confidence, continually delivering a level of sound quality and reliability unrivaled in its class.
D-PRE (Discrete Class-A Mic Preamps)
This is where it all starts. Everything you do as a sound engineer is dependent on the quality of your preamps, which determines the direction your mix will take, and ultimately how good it is going to sound. MG Series mixing consoles feature Yamaha's studio-grade discrete class-A D-PRE preamps, which utilize an inverted Darlington circuit comprising two cascading transistors in a configuration that provides more power with lower impedance.
EQ and High-pass Filters
There's nothing more useful than reliable equalization when you need nuanced management of your tone. The MG Series benefits from Yamaha's unparalleled experience in designing pro audio gear, featuring 3-band equalizers on all mono channels for precise control of your sound. High-pass filter allows you to eliminate unwanted low-frequency noise, for a smoother, cleaner mix.
1-Knob Compressors
Compression plays an essential role in just about any recording or sound reinforcement environment by altering the level of dynamics of an audio signal when you need livelier guitars, punchier bass lines, a tighter snare, or a cleaner vocal sound. However, it can take countless hours to master the complexities of even the most basic outboard compression units and use them effectively.
Built-in SPX Digital Effects
For musical and non-musical applications, effects processing adds polish and professionalism to the mix. The MG X / XU models feature Yamaha's SPX digital multi-effect processor, offering a comprehensive suite of editable digital effects perfect for enhancing your mix, whether adding depth to a speaking engagement or breathing new color and atmosphere into a live performance.
High Quality Sound Op-amp
The head amp determines sound quality, and op-amp integrated circuits are one of the most important parts in the head amp circuit. MG Series mixers feature new, high-quality, custommade MG01 op-amps that we developed in cooperation with the semiconductor manufacturer. We worked directly with the semiconductor manufacturer to focus on sound quality first.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this good 4 big venues |
Answer: | 1) What are the two external amps being used for considering this is a powered mixer with 800 watt x 2 for stereo or 1600 watts bridged?2) If you are using the external amps to run sub-speakers there is a single "sub line out" to do exactly that however, most sub-speakers are run in mono using one external power amp or powered subs daisy chained.3) Dual Band EQ - there are "send & return" imputs to operate external ffects such as the EQ. Again, you were not clear what you wanted the EQ to operate.4) Hurcules Controller - I am not a DJ so I am not familiar with this gear because I use this unit for live performances with my band. However, my son is a Pro DJ & I do know he would not even consider buying this unit because it is not really designed for DJ applications. |
Question: | Will this work with behringer 115d powered speaker |
Answer: | You can use powered speakers but MAKE SURE YOU USE THE UNPOWERED MAIN OUTPUTS. If you don't you could blow your speakers. The powered outputs are the speakon cable outputs on the back. On the top right if the board you will see main out left and right. Those outputs are unpowered and able to work with powered speakers. You are safe to run powered speakers out if any output except for the speakon cable outputs on the back. You will need 1/4 inch cable...not xlr. |
Question: | Hi,is this behringer have echo |
Answer: | Ask them. |
Question: | How loud is the fan noise |
Answer: | I does not shrink. It is a fitted/ athletic t shirt. It will stretch a little while worn but will snug back up when you dry it. |

Question: | Does this console has motorized faders |
Answer: | Dear customers, Thanks for your interest in the Sound Town 12-space rack case. Upon research, the Behringer Xenyx X2442USB will fit in the 12U rack case with the racking mounting kit. Per Behringer, the rack mounting kit should be included in the original package, please double check if the mounting kit is available to mount the mixer to the rack case. Feel free to let us know if you need anything else. Thank you, |
Question: | will this work with Studio one as a multi track recorder on PC |
Answer: | Dear customer, Thank you for your interest in the Sound Town 14U rack case. Based on the mixer's dimension, unfortunately it can't be mounted to the slant top section. If you would like to put it on the side table, the table has enough space. If you are looking for a rack case with slant top that the mixer can mount to, usually you have to look for an oversized rack case that can accommodate at least 29.4" width (width of the Mackie 2404vlz4 mixer ). We do not have selections that can meet this requirement at this moment and we apologize for the inconvenience. Feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions. Thank you, |
Question: | Can you record directly to a thumb drive without a computer |
Answer: | Width measures 181/2 depth is about 18 inches back. Depending on your your measurements when you put mount rails on mixer. Measurement are also on the last diagram in details in item. |
Question: | Is there a carrying case available to purchase for this |
Answer: | The upper part of the stand is 7/8" |

Question: | Can this Power my Passive Speakers |
Answer: | 8 tracks (6 xlr + 2 1/4) And you can ad a device like iPod or laptop audio with a rca cable. |
Question: | For USB recording, can I have four people (each using their own mic) sent to my computer at the same time? Using it for a podcast |
Answer: | It’s only a stereo output with the USB cable. |
Question: | I am going to purchase three (Audio-Technica AT2020 USB Condenser USB Microphone) mics. Will these plug into this mixer? Sorry I'm brand new at this |
Answer: | As long as the mixer has oitputs - RCA or 1/4inch jacks you can connect to a Desktop or Laptop. You need only find a jumper cable with a stereo RCA plug at one end and a 3.5 mm jack at the other end. You plug the output from the mixer to the MIC and or Aux in on the PC if laptop maybe the same hole/jack as the hradphones. They are often 2 in 1 setups these days. I have my mixer hooked up this way and it allows me to then add whatever I like to the input on the mixer to record on my PC with outstanding results. |
Question: | Im interested in buying this. We have 6 mics, and need to record the audio from all of them to a laptop during meetings. Will this do what I need |
Answer: | I do not have a P16. I do run different brands of in ears off the Aux outputs of the X32 including the brand and version you mentioned. The presonous does not compare to the x32 in my opinion. |

Ask professional sound engineers what their favorite piece of external processing gear is and the majority response will be virtually unanimous – dynamic compression. What is compression? We’re glad you asked. Compression essentially limits the dynamic range of a signal, lowering the level of loud sounds and turning up softer sounds, to achieve sonic balance. But applying compression is a delicate art that many novice, and even intermediate, sound techs find challenging. Our 'one-knob' compression is available on all mono channels and is easy to operate, even for entry-level users. With this one knob, you can easily dial in the perfect amount of compression for instruments and vocals, creating powerful mixes with punch and clarity. This is indeed a rare feature for products in this class – but standard on the Xenyx X1204USB mixer.
Sonically Superior Mic Preamps
All Xenyx mixers have one thing in common – great-sounding, high headroom Xenyx mic preamps. These state-of-the-art mic pres represent a major step in the evolution of audio technology – and they can easily hold their own, even when compared to the most expensive stand-alone mic preamps. Xenyx preamps offer a staggering 130 dB of dynamic range, with a bandwidth that extends from below 10 Hz to well above 200 kHz. Armed with these outstanding mic preamps, Xenyx mixers provide such transparent, crystal-clear performance you just might think someone upgraded your mics while you weren’t looking.

Sublimely Musical British EQ
The British consoles of the 1960s and ‘70s changed the sound of rock and roll – without them the British Invasion might not have happened. Those legendary mixing desks soon became the envy of engineers and producers all over the world. The channel EQ on our Xenyx mixers is based on that very same circuitry, allowing you to imbue signals with incredible warmth and detailed musical character. Even when applied generously, these equalizers exhibit sweet forgiveness and superb audio quality.
Built-in Digital Multi-FX Processor
Equipped with our studio-grade 24-bit Multi-FX processor, the X1204USB gives you 16 mind- blowing digital effect presets such as delay, chorus and reverb. Time-based functions can be entered manually by pressing the Tap button in tempo with the music. Apply them to any channel, as well as to the monitors and main output. Of course, if you have treasured outboard gear you’ve grown attached to, the X1204USB lets you integrate them into the mix – bypassing the built-in FX processor.
Recording Bliss
There was a time when the recording process called for lots and lots of expensive gear, which meant the average musician had to buy time at a recording studio – and that time was pricey indeed. But modern technology has put personal recording well within the reach of virtually anyone with access to a computer. How do you get all that music flying around your brain into your computer? That’s where the Xenyx X1204USB comes in. Thanks to the built-in, bi-directional stereo USB audio interface, you can connect your X1204USB directly to your PC or Mac computer via a single USB cable. Now any signal source you connect to the mixer can be recorded directly to your hard drive. Which brings us to software...
Free Software Would Be Nice!
Because you’ll want to take full advantage of the Xenyx X1204USB’s recording and podcasting potential, we’ve included all the software you’ll need for audio recording, editing and even podcasting –You’ll be ready to go live on your PC or Mac right out of the box! We’ve also provided a free download of more than 150 virtual instruments and FX plug-ins – turning your computer into a powerful home-based or mobile recording studio from input to output.

User questions & answers
Question: | Speaker cable gauge |
Answer: | Not sure exactly what your question is on the mixer. The mixer will work most standard speaker cable gauge or thickness. I recommend a thicker gauge so you get better audio quality. But if the cable you are wondering about is a manufactured speaker cable for pro audio it should work. |
Question: | Can someone tell what comes in the box along with the mixer |
Answer: | Nothing else comes in the box except for a plug. |
Question: | With the bt feature does this allow for pairing with BT headphone for audio output |
Answer: | I only use it to hook up my phone or my computer. More like an input, not an output. |
Question: | i try to pair my iPad or iPhone to bluetooth, i am asked for a pin. I don't know what pin to enter |
Answer: | With our unit, the PIN is 7878, printed just above the power button next to the Bluetooth logo and the word “PIN.” |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i connect mg06x-6 to tv |
Answer: | here's one: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Hosa/Stereo-1-4-Inch-Male-TRS-to-Dual-Male-RCA-Insert-Cable.gc |
Question: | Can i connect its out to irig pre (phone-audio interface) which ultimately connected to phones for recording over iphone/ipads |
Answer: | This mixer with its quality mic preamps (real ones, with plenty of adjustable gain) , EQ, channel output volume, etc. is far superior to the iRig Pre. I tried the iRig Pre (and reviewed it) and didn't like it. To emulate the iRig Pre connections, get a TRRS (male) adapter you plug into your phone/tablet that breaks out separate speaker 1/8" TRS (female) and mic 1/8" TRS (female) connectors. You could use either the XLR or the 1/4" outputs of the mixer as input to the mic 1 /8" TRS connector on the adapter. Unlike the iRig Pre, with a mixer like this you have the option of listening to the realtime output of the mixer from its headphone jack or plug your headphones into the speaker 1/8" (female) connector on the adapter to hear it how the phone/ tablet is recording it (which can be time-delayed making it difficult to speak live while listening to non-realtime audio). |
Question: | Are the 1/4 inch outputs TRS for balanced signal to another TRS input? I'm planning on using this as a simple mixer for input to a Bose L1 Compact |
Answer: | The outputs are Stereo outputs, both L and R. (shown on the blue areas of image) |
Question: | Can headphones and stereo out be be controlled independently? I want to listen to either headphones OR speakers, not both at once |
Answer: | On the MG10XU there are two volumes controls. Stereo out and Monitor/Headphones out. I can't tell if this has both knobs or not. You can check the manual for the technical diagram. |

Built-in SPX Digital Effects (MG06X)
For musical and non-musical applications, effects processing adds polish and professionalism to the mix. The MG06X features Yamaha's SPX digital multi-effect processor, offering a comprehensive suite of editable digital effects perfect for enhancing your mix, whether adding depth to a speaking engagement or breathing new color and atmosphere into a live performance.

Question: | Can i use this mixer connect to speaker , subwoofer and dj controller together |
Answer: | I’m assuming you would go with your DJ controller into this unit, then you could send the out to the sub and PA speaker. You might also be able to run a separate aux out to the sub and just give it more when you need to. Personally I would get a mackie 802 before I buy this. |
Question: | can i hook this to my crown power amp |
Answer: | Yes, I hook mine up to 2 crown Amps. I run them bridged made use one for the left channel and one for the right channel. |
Question: | Can this be used for live performance with output to PA and monitor ( one vocal and acoustic guitar |
Answer: | Yes you can. You have stereo monitor outs (called Control Room) as well as main outs, and they have independent controls. The control room outs share the same level as the HEADPHONES out, though. You do have an extra AUX out that can serve as a different send to a monitor, but it is mono. |
Question: | Is there a USB output |
Answer: | No USB Output on this mixer. Thank you, Sam Ash Direct |
