User questions & answers
Question: | Can an acoustic electric guitar be plugged directly into the 1/4" input for clean recording |
Answer: | The answer is yes but depends on the pre amps of your guitars pickup. Some electric guitars have better and more pickups then acoustic/electric guitars so they will need less gain from the recording device. I would say it would be fine for acoustic/ electric guitar if you have decent pickups. I would recommend recording acoustic guitar with the provided stereo microphone that are exceptionally good as they are made for the the zooms built in preamps. these microphones are condensor so they will be very precise in picking up the natural ambience and accoustic characteristics of your guitar. Hope that helps. |
Question: | Is phantom power available for the additional 2 channel XLR accessory |
Answer: | It is not. |
Question: | Will it create separate audio files from 2 shotgun mics and 2 lav mics so I can then create my own mix in Post? Does it all go into one file |
Answer: | The 4 XLR inputs create individual mono files from the mics attached. The attached mics, 2 at 90 degrees as shown in picture, create a single stereo file. All 5 of these files can be mixed using an audio package. I did this using 4 mics and the 90 degree onboard to record my nephews band playing a gig. I remixed the audio using those files and then laid that over the video track of same song. worked beautifully. |
Question: | Does the rotary gain control go to |
Answer: | Turn it up to 10 and rip the knob off!!! =11 |

User questions & answers
Question: | When you connect a mic into the input line. Can you mix it with the built-in mics |
Answer: | No, but ZOOM makes (and Amazon sells) another model that will record FOUR channels --- the "same" two built-in mics PLUS two LINE/XLR jacks: the H5 (which I also own). (See here: http://amzn.to/2l8U4nC) (that's a lowercase L and N) |
Question: | How can I use the zoom h1 as a dslr mic.? If it is possible do I have to press record on the zoom h1 and and press the record button on the dslr whe |
Answer: | Just a note about recording into a dslr: the bitrate and sample rate you set on the zoom doesn't affect the bitrate and sample rate recorded onto the dslr file. Your dslr always determines the bitrate and sample rate. (IE: for most Canon's that's 44khz/16 bit). The audio quality from the zoom will be better than your on-camera mic simply because the microphone itself is higher quality, but don't expect to be recording 96khz/24 bit audio straight into your dslr's .mov files! |
Question: | can I record a piece to video with the Zoom recording my voice and then synch it to video |
Answer: | Sure thing. I use mine as a primary aiduo recorder for my Nikon D5300. I use the sound from the camera as areference track and then stnc the wave file from the Zoom to the video using Final Cut X. Works perfect with much better sound quality. |
Question: | What does this device actually record onto - some sort of a memory card or flash drive? I'm looking for something that will record at least 6 hours |
Answer: | You get roughly 12 hours on the 2GB micro SD card included, in MP3 320kbps. Quality is excellent. If you want WAV format your looking at about 2.5 hours with the stock card. Larger cards are cheap though so it's upgradable. |

Now TASCAM has designed an answer that pros and amateurs alike have been waiting for. The DR-60D is a brand new 4-track solid-state recorder utilizing TASCAMs decades of experience. The recorder utilizes high-grade HDDA pre-amps, legendary AD converters, and a durable but lightweight structure and shape. This device will fit snuggly under any camera or into any rig, and record up to 96kHz/24-bit high quality audio straight to SD/SDHC media. Filmmakers have at their disposal two 1/4"-XLR Locking Combo MIC/LINE Inputs, 3.5mm Stereo MIC Input, Camera In, Camera Out, Line Out and Headphone Out. Both 1/4"-XLR Combo Inputs supply +48V Phantom Power and the 3.5mm Input supplies Plug-In Power for microphones requiring a bias voltage. The DR-60D is incredibly easy to use, employing TASCAMs very popular user interface and external controls for every major operation. The body structure, soft-touch keys and dials are designed specifically to help eliminate handling noise. The multiple record modes include, 4-Channel Record, Auto Record and TASCAMs Dual Record "Safety Track" Mode make the DR-60D one of the most versatile recorders on the market. Quality mic preamps are a necessity for quality sound. The DR-60DmkIIs HDDA mic preamplifiers (High Definition Discrete Architecture) employ discrete circuitry and parts, approved after months of evaluation testing by Tascam. User questions & answers
Question: | Says it does 4 channel recording. It takes 4 individual channels and combines them to 2 stereo channels. Is there a way to maintain 4 separate channe |
Answer: | Hello, Yes, you can use the Scarlett 18i8 (3rd Gen) with Reaper. Best regards, Jay Lilley // Focusrite Technical Support Engineer |
Question: | I have a problem with the 60D not working with rechargeable batteries, even after changing the battery settings. Anyone else have this? Know of a fix |
Answer: | Hello, Yes this is possible in Windows. To expose additional channels from your Scarlett interface to non-ASIO applications (e.g. Skype, Discord, Zoom, Audacity) first click the Focusrite Notifier icon in the taskbar, then click "Expose/Hide Windows Channels": Best Regards, Anthony // Focusrite Support |
Question: | What's a good USB battery pack to pair with this |
Answer: | The biggest change is in the headroom. These preamps and converters are cleaner and offer more gain than the 2nd gen. These pres also come equipped with the "Air" mode which adds some high end to model the ISA preamp circuit. The 3rd gen 18i20 also has 16 ADAT I/O channels as opposed to the 2nd gen's 8 channels of ADAT. The removable ears also help with portability for the engineer who doesn't want to keep the interface in a rack. If this was helpful, please consider purchasing from us (pixelproaudio on Amazon). We can help with support after the sale as well. We have it in stock and ready to ship. - Pixel Pro Audio |
Question: | What's the difference between this and the previous version of the DR60D |
Answer: | Hi, There have been several improvements made to the 3rd generation range of interfaces. Firstly, all of the inputs on the 18i20 3rd gen feature Air mode, emulating the classic sound of our original transformer-based ISA preamps. Secondly, the 18i20 3rd gen now has the ability to switch between Main and Alternative speakers connected to it using a front panel button. Thirdly, we have added a built-in Talkback function (allowing the engineer to talk directly to the performer), a Loopback function (allowing audio from one application to be recorded into another without connecting cables), Dual ADAT ports for recording 16 channels of audio into the DAW at 96kHz, optical S/PDIF and removable rack ears. Lastly, the specifications of the preamps and conversion have been improved even further - for example, the dynamic range has been increased to 111dB and the gain range is now 56dB instead of 50dB on the 2nd generation. Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support |

Question: | How is the quality of the recording for natural sound? I.e. birds, cows, frogs, other animals from a distance, lets say 25 meters away with no wind |

User questions & answers
Question: | It states it can use a 32 gig SD card. Can it use a higher gig or just 32 gig |
Answer: | I had an older digital recorder that only used 4 gig compact flash memory cards. I tried using 8 gig, but it would stop recording when it reached 4 gig. I keep a watch on this one to make sure it does not go over the maximum it says in case it performs similarly. 32 gig is hundreds of hours of mp3 recording. |
Question: | The device is listed as running on battery for 6 hours. Can we use it while plugged with DC power adapter to potentially use for 12 hours |
Answer: | Sorry, I strictly use DC power adapter which has a very short cord. You'll always need an extension cord. You may try getting rechargeable batteries to use if you plan on alternating between DC and battery. |
Question: | Does it really work |
Answer: | Several problems. When it is connected to a comuter via USB all buttons lock, ever after it is disconnected. You have to remove the batteries to get it working a again. Contacted Marantz about this and they send a programme to upload, which initially fixed the problem, but it keeps recurring. Also in mono mode it only records on one channell, the level on the second is so low as to be unuseable, and this needs to be corrected in your laptop. |
Question: | Is there a foot pedal available for this recorder |
Answer: | Hi, Marantz Pro support here! Our PMD661MKIII does not feature the ability to connect a foot pedal. For further support on this subject, please feel free to contact us directly - [email protected] |
