Product description

A standard on stages throughout the world for years, the Shure SM58 Dynamic Vocal Microphone offers a carefully tailored frequency rise at about 4,000 Hz for smooth as silk vocals that stand out in the mix. Long associated with its unmistakable sound and unsurpassed reliability, the Shure SM58 Dynamic Vocal Microphone is widely considered the most popular mic in the world. Designed for professional vocal use in sound reinforcement and studio recording, the Shure SM58 Dynamic Vocal Microphone utilizes a highly effective, built-in, spherical filter that minimizes wind and breath pop noise while the cardioid pickup pattern isolates the main sound source and minimizes unwanted background noise. The tailored vocal response on the SM58 is a legendary tone that has become a world standard. Shure SM58 Dynamic Vocal Microphone Features: Smooth, mid-frequency presence rise for world-famous SM58 Mic, sound Uniform cardioid pickup pattern isolates the main sound source, Minimizes background noise, Pneumatic shock-mount system cuts down handling noise, Rugged construction for extreme reliability in demanding applications, Effective, built-in spherical wind and pop filter, 50 to 15,000 Hz frequency response, Supplied with break-resistant stand, adapter which rotates 180 degrees, Legendary Shure quality, ruggedness, and reliability. Includes a mic stand adapter and a zippered storage pouch. Proximity Effect: When the sound source is less than 1/4 inch from the microphone, the microphone boosts bass frequencies (by 6 to 10 dB at 100 Hz), creating a warmer and richer bass sound than when farther away. This effect, known as proximity effect, happens only in unidirectional dynamic microphones like the Shure SM58 Vocal Mic. The low-frequency roll-off on the SM58 provides greater control, allowing the user to take full advantage of proximity effect.

User questions & answers

Question: I apologize for my ignorance. Need for my church. Does this run on battery alone or does it have to be hooked up to something to work
Answer: It does not need a battery, but you do need to connect it to an amplifier that has a mic XLR connection. Mostly this would be a separate pre-amp which is then connected to a larger console or amplifier system, though some systems combines both.
Question: How long is the cable that I can get with this mic
Answer: If the official Shure part number SM58-CN is selected, the "CN" means a 25' XLR microphone cable will be included. Other variants include SM58S which is microphone with an on/off switch, SM58-LC which is microphone only with no cable.
Question: What amplifier or mixer [ $20- $50 ] should i buy which is compatible with sm58 ? need suggestion
Answer: There are too many questions to be answered here. Are your speakers powered or non-active? How many mics are you running? Any other systems involved, like instruments, computers, ipods etc? Are you looking for built in EFX? Although my first amp was a Pyle 3000W for $100 and I used a cheap Behringer 4 bus mixer, I have moved on from that purchase. Best advise I can give someone, is to buy a book or video on live sound and mixing, it will save you time, heartaches and maybe even money.
Question: Feel free to laugh a bit and excuse my ignorance. I am starting voice lessons does this microphone only work with a computer? Or can I hook it up to something different? Ok no more laughing. Thank You
Answer: I'd like to correct a statement that's been made about the SM-58, which is the most popular, universal "performer's mic," found in every band that can afford it and serving as the White House microphone for heads of state. It's a "dynamic" rather than a "condenser mic," which means it's durable, tough, long-lasting, made to take abuse. But it's not the preferred microphone in the recording studio, which is where the more sensitive, nuanced condenser microphone shines (but don't toss it in a bag and "take it on the road"). Condenser mics require more power than dynamic mics, and that power is called "phantom power," which is found in most mixing boards and in many amps--and in this handy adapter. But you do NOT require Phantom Power for an XLR connection: you require it for a CONDENSER MIC. And since the popular SM58 is a DYNAMIC MIC, the Phantom Power is wasted, a needless add-on. If you want to convert your XLR to USB (or to a phone plug), there are many adapters and cables for $10 that will do the trick You certainly don't need to invest a hundred in the pictured adapter--that's sheer "overkill. It's a bit of a mystery why sellers are showing the SM58 with a Phantom-Powered Adapter for condenser mics. You may be wasting $100 on one or the other of these incompatible devices.

User questions & answers

Question: Does it come with a mic stand or shock mount to hold it or do I need to buy my own? Also If I need my own what do you suggest
Answer: This microphone has it's own mount, that provides slight separation from any vibration noise. There is no elastic suspension "shock mount" available for this unit - but is a very rugged mic that can take a beating. Any decent stand will do... but because the SM7B is fairly heavy, I'd advise if your going to hang it off a boom stand, I'd find a sturdy one with a decent counter weight. I use an Atlas Sound MS20E Heavy Duty Microphone Stand or the On Stage SMS7650 Hex-Base Studio Boom Microphone Stand.
Question: Do you need a mixamp/preamp/mixer/audio interface to use this microphone on a PC or is it optional
Answer: The question is specifically asking about using this mic with a PC, and although it's a 6 year old question, it still needs to be flooded with correct answers to hide the bad one inexplicably found at the top, even though its Yes:No helpfulness ratio is atrocious and is neither the newest nor the oldest answer. This absolutely needs an interface to be used with a PC. A lot of these answers are going on about the preamp, but regardless of how you get power to this thing--whether it be preamps onboard your interface or whatnot--you will absolutely need some sort of interface to, well, interface with your computer. Whether it be USB, Firewire, Thunderbolt, or PCIe, you will 1000% need a way to get the signal into your PC. That aside, you will definitely want good way to drive it given its output level.
Question: Is this the mic Marc Maron uses on the show for podcasting
Answer: Per Marc Maron on a mic website "In the garage I use two Shure SM7s into a Samson MDR6 mixer into Garage Band on my mac. On the road I use a Zoom H4n and two Blue Encore 100 mics." However, the SM7B is a great broadcast mic. I use it for studio vocals. Hope this helps.
Question: How does the shure sm7b compare to the blue yeti pro
Answer: I use the Shure SM7b for all of my voiceover and singing recording. The Blue Yeti Pro doesn't even place when compared in all honestly. The Blue Yeti Pro has a WAY higher noise floor, and sounds muddy and slightly muffled when comparing the two back to back. And I see a lot of people saying, "A cloudlifter won't help," and I can say from first-hand experience, that this isn't true. Personally I recommend picking up a Fethead, or an sE Electronics DM1, however, all three do the same thing, but some cost more than others, (I'm using the DM1, and I've been very happy with my purchase.) Originally I was using a Focusrite Scarlet Solo, 2nd Gen, and my audio was clean. Any mic activators helps bring this mic up to great levels without getting any pre-amp noise. I've since upgraded to an Audient ID4, and my audio is super clean. I don't get any noise from the mic, pre-amp, or the interface. That being said, the SM7b is more expensive, but even despite this, I definitely recommend the SM7b over Blue Yeti Pro any day.

User questions & answers

Question: I'm trying to decide between this mike, the SM48 and the PG 58. I would like the best mike for a band, short of the SM
Answer: I assume it's for a vocal mike? I do not know about the PG 58, but I can tell you the SM48 is flawless. Absolutely no problems so far. Shures are tanks when it comes to mics. I'd still go with the SM58 if you can get your hands on one cheap. I have never heard of a problem with them. I have seen vocalist throw them to the ground and they still work the same. Hope that helps.
Question: Help! Which speaker can connect to this mike
Answer: You can plug a Shure SM48 or Shure SM58 to hundreds of speakers, which is why they're the world's most popular, universal microphone (every performing musician I've known and every band carries a reliable and indestructible SM58 mic). It works with "performer's" speakers, which have a built-in amp and pre-amp. Examples are Peavey, Bose, JBL, Electrovoice, etc. I happen to use Roland piano speakers and Roland Cube speakers, but any P.A. system is likely to have the conventional XLR speaker's connection as well as the ¼ inch connection should you have a plug at the end of your cable (the SM58 will take either cable). The problem comes into play if you're limited to an indoor stereo system with "hi-fi speakers," which are not self-powered like musicians-performer's speakers. This is a performer's mic, the one you'll see in use for P.A. speakers in large rooms and big outdoor areas-- and musician's amp-speakers (for all those electric pianos). But it requires an XLR or quarter-inch phone plug connection. If you wish to use it as a USB speaker with your computer, Amazon is showing it with the the Shure X2U adapter ($100), which will convert an XLR cable into a USB cable and provide conveniences like a headphones jack (for no-latency monitoring) and control of volume as well as 48V Phantom Power (which is not needed with the SM48/58, since both are dynamic mics, not condenser mics). If yours is a non-USB condenser mic (eg. ATT2020), the Shure adapter could take the place of a mixing board-interface, saving money and space while giving you all the flexibility you need with a single mic used like a USB accessory to connect to a computer. Blue makes the same for half the price (the Icycle?), but with fewer onboard controls and questionable durability (my Blue mics, incl. the Yeti, are the first to break or wear out). Also, check Planet Waves for some of the plainest, cheapest (less than $10) adapters.
Question: What type of connector does it use
Answer: The output on the mike is xlr style but if that's a probly you can buy an xlr to 1/4 converter for a few bucks
Question: what 10watt will work well with sm48s
Answer: sauteed Broccoli de rabe with a side of minced meat couscous

User questions & answers

Question: I thought this came with a 1/8" adapter to bring the size down from 1/4? Maybe I read the ad wrong. Do you sell 1/4 to 1/8 adapters
Answer: This mic does not come with that adapter. There are certainly many 1/4" to 1/8" adapters on Amazon.
Question: Porque me indica que no tiene cable en la descripción
Answer: Biene el cable separado pero en el mismo paquete
Question: I need a cable connector to connect this microphone to the machine. What do I need to buy
Answer: What do you mean by machine? You can order this mike with a XLR to XLR cable or a XLR to QTR cable. The diference between the XLR and the QTR terminal is the connector. The XLR is a 3 prom jack and the QTR is a 1/4" jack, similar to the 1/8" or 3.5mm jack you use in you cel phone or most of the stereos. If you have a regular 3.5mm input in your stereo, mixer or amplifyer yiu need to buy this mike with a XLR to QTR cable and a Reduction Jack from 1/4" Female to 1/8" Male. All the mikes terminal are XLR Female,, so the difference is at the other end of the cable, You either use a XLR terminal/jack or a 1/4" jack.
Question: What is the difference between pga48-qtr and pga48-xlr
Answer: the qtr has a 1/4" cable, the XLR has an xlr cable. We have a package with stand: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017RLEPZ0/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= or the xlr version: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072DX341N/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=

User questions & answers

Question: Is this microphone wireless
Answer: This one is not wireless You need to purchase a mic cable too It is not included They make a wireless version but this is not it
Question: Can anyone give a realistic assessment of how much better it is at resisting feedback than other mics? If not, any recommendations for one that does
Answer: I haven't found it to be any better or worse at resisting feedback. The SM58 Beta is better than the SM58 in a few areas, but I haven't noticed it being better in this specific regard.
Question: Does this mic need phantom power of 48V
Answer: Hello, This microphone does not require phantom power, as it is dynamic.Phantom power is required for condenser microphones, such as Shure Beta 87A.
Question: Is this a real Beta 58 or is it the ripoff from China
Answer: Good question. I can only tell you that the one I received is real. The mesh grill on the AUTHENTIC SHURE mic almost looks "spider web" like. The links are intertwined - the FAKE SHURE has a regular metal screen. The AUTHENTIC SHURE mic has a DEEP BLUE colored ring (not DARK BLUE!) around the grill. The FAKE one has like a "SKY BLUE" Also, at the BOTTOM of the mic, where the XLR pins are, the REAL SHURE mic will have the pins numbered "1, 2 and 3" and ALSO have the SHURE LOGO embossed on the base by the pins. The FAKE MICS will NOT. Hope this info HELPS.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the difference between the sm58 and the pga58? I am a moble dj and karaoke host. I have customers that are really particular about the sound
Answer: The PGA58 is the cheap version of the SM58. The SM58 will sound a little better. If you're not super sensitive to sound then the PGA58 will likely work just fine. If I were a DJ I would do the SM58 and then just have a mixer to turn the mic off if need be. PGA58 has an ON/OFF switch on it so it can be turned off by accident. But, some folks want a power switch on the mic.
Question: Does this mic have an internal shock mount
Answer: All mics have some internal shock mount. But depending on your use, it may not be adequate. This mic is average noise for what is considered a handheld mic.
Question: Do i need xlr male to female or male to male
Answer: The microphone uses a standard XLR and has three prongs. If you order a cord with the microphone they will give you a choice of XLR or 1/4", this choice pertains to the end that does not plug into the microphone. Personnaly I selected the 1/4" so I could plug it into my amplifier (my amp has two inputs) while practicing. The 1/4" will also plug into our group's PA system becasue the PA has a plug that accepts either 1/4" or XLR. Saying all that, you need a cord with a female XLR to plug into the microphone's male XLR and the other end will be either a male 1/4" or male XLR to plug into whatever you are using to amplify your voice.
Question: Can you plug in this mic to an amp? My previous mic plug had a long silver end on it but this one doesn't have one
Answer: The cable that comes with it is XLR to XLR, so no, it won't plug into the amp without a 1/4" connector. Cable is not permanently attached to the mic, and can be changed to an XLR TO 1/4" type cable. The mic is incredible and worth every penny.

Shure 55SH Series II Iconic Unidyne Dynamic Vocal Microphone

Shure

Based on 502 reviews Check latest price

Product description

What is the 55SH Series II best suited to? The Shure 55SH Series II is suited specifically to vocal applications. Therefore, typically live performance, public address as well as for broadcasting, recording, and sound applications where a stand-mounted microphone with a classic look is desirable. What type of polar pattern does the 55SH Series II have? A cardioid (unidirectional) polar pickup pattern is employed to minimize sound pickup from the rear of the microphone. This allows the Model 55SH Series II to be used in close proximity to loudspeakers without creating feedback problems, and it can perform under adverse acoustic conditions where omnidirectional microphones cannot.

  • Classic appearance, modern performance
  • Frequency response tailored for speech, vocals and instrumental music
  • Cardioid directional pattern for optimum performance in adverse acoustic environments
  • Shock-mounted cartridge minimizes stand-transmitted noise, ensures quiet operation
  • Rugged die cast casing for reliability under rigorous conditions
  • Self-tensioning swivel mount, permits tilting through 45 degrees forward and 80 degrees backward
  • If you want to capture a classic look, you need the gear to match the genre. Nothing completes the style quite like the 55SH Series II, a microphone that has been gripped by legends for decades. Others may imitate, but none can duplicate the form and function standards Shure has held from our first Unidyne mic to our latest.

Answer: No it does not. It is a dynamic microphone and does not need phantom power. If this was helpful, please consider purchasing from us (pixelproaudio on Amazon). We can help with support after the sale as well. We have it in stock and ready to ship. - Pixel Pro Audio
Question: Still not clear from description - does the mic require phantom power
Answer: As with any microphone of quality, cords, and stands are not included. I use mine with a boom stand and the head tilts back perfectly. The best mic for live vocals I have ever used!
Question: I don´t see any information if the cable is included with this mic
Answer: My friend has the 55SH series 2 and I have 55 deluxe. After trying his I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to buy one of my own. I went with the 55 deluxe because since it has a beta 58 capsule as opposed to an old SM48 capsule it gives you higher gain before feedback. the frequency response is also more desirable having 60 Hertz to 17,000 vs. 50 Hertz to 15,000. So it's brighter and attenuates more of the low end that you really don't want to have on a vocal anyway. However both of the microphones do have different sounds and if you're after more of a lo-fi I sound the 55SH would be a better option but if you want a really awesome sounding one that is more up do date with todays technology get the 55 deluxe.
Question: This Shure Super 55 Deluxe Vocal Mic is ~$60 more than the Shure 55SH Series II Iconic Unidyne Vocal Mic. Anyone own both? What makes it worth more
Answer: Yes, I think you can send the output of this unit to any device with Audio In (the large Audio jack). Then I send it to my Home entertainment system Auxiliary Input.

55SH Series II Iconic Unidyne Vocal Microphone

An unmistakable stage icon for decades, the Shure 55SH Series II Unidyne Vocal Microphone features a signature satin chrome-plated die-cast casing for pure vintage look and feel with modern acoustic components to meet today's performance standards. This microphone is excellent for vocal pickup with its characteristic Shure presence peak.

The 55SH Series II microphone has a cardioid (unidirectional) polar pickup pattern that minimizes sound pickup from the rear of the microphone. This allows the Model 55SH Series II to be used in close proximity to loudspeakers without creating feedback problems, and it can perform under adverse acoustic conditions where omnidirectional microphones cannot.

  • User questions & answers

Question: What kind of unbalanced cable will this MIC work with
Answer: It does not come with a cord
Question: I was wondering how long is the cord
Answer: All SM58 microphones are the same. Made by Shure. The SM58 is dynamic, referring to the way it converts sound waves to electricity. (It is not a condenser or carbon mic.) . That being said, "vocal" refers to its most frequently intended use. Buy it, use it, enjoy it. We have many!
Question: One SM58 says "Dynamic" and the other does not. Both say "Vocal." Is there a difference
Answer: There are four different models of the SM58. While the microphones are the same different cables/adapters are included or not. SM58-LC Cable Not Included SM58S On/Off Switch Included SM58-CN Cable Included SM58-X2U XLR to USB Signal Adapter
Question: Dear friends. can somebody tell me the difference between sm58 and sm58 lc mics? thanks a lot
Answer: Neither one is necessarily good for brass. Think of 57's and 58's as being very, very good general purpose microphones. They don't super-excel at anything except close-up vocals and drums. For something like brass, try a condenser mic.

    User questions & answers

Question: Can you connect multiple mv7 mics to the same computer via usb
Answer: It’s maye a ruler and a half. If you purchase it make sure you apply the resin to the bow otherwise you will assume it doesn’t work 😂 my 4 year old loves it
Question: Has anyone used this mic with the rode psa1 microphone boom - mainly, is the mic heavy enough
Answer: It's very delicate, but it's a real violin. You could start with the Suzuki method and see if the 5 year old likes to play it. If so, you can decide to rent or buy a violin that fits the size of the child as she grows. The price is good as a starter instrument, and the pink color is adorable.
Question: Being that this is a condenser mic, how much background noise does it pick up
Answer: This is a small child size violin (3-5 years old). It can only be used with formal violin instruction by a violin teacher. The child can play the strings with the bow but it is not easy to play any tune without violin lessons.
Question: why is this using micro usb? does this company know about USB type C
Answer: This is a real violin perfect size for a 4-5 year old. My granddaughter like many girls, likes pink. She might take Suzuki lessons on it.

Question: Does it pick up voices from all angles for multiple singers uaing one mic for do you have to be directly in front of it

Question: I want to buy this article in colombia. is the price for this mic (including shipping price) all that i have to pay? or will i require to pay more
Answer: The MV88 used with the Shure Motiv App will handle SPLs of up to 120 dB. That's very loud and certainly in the hearing damaging range. The App compressor can keep the recording software from clipping if you start recording with too high a gain setting, but cannot keep the mic itself from clipping if you exceed 120 dB SPL. The Motiv App allows for 37dB of gain adjustment, and for very loud SPLs can be set for "0dB" gain. I've recorded a full symphony orchestra peaking at 103 dB SPL up close with the gain set to 20dB and the peaks hit no higher than -3 dB digitally with no limiting. However, some heavy metal bands can produce very dangerous SPLs that do exceed 120 dB close to their speakers, so limiter or not, it is possible to overdrive the MV88.
Question: Which of the shure wireless mic would you recommend for a church gathering of 300 to 500 people

    User questions & answers

Question: How can i determine which frequency to buy? i looked on their actual website and location/zipcode i use is not working. so
Answer: You can purchase any of the frequencies that they offer - they all work the same, but at different frequencies. The only reason you would pick a specific is if you have another device in the room (or in a nearby room) that is using one of the offered frequencies. For instance you might want to use a second wireless microphone in the room (or in in a room next door0 -- then you would want to select two different frequencies of this microphone. These mics are very reliable.
Question: I am confused I bought this and I thought this entire system runs on battery
Answer: The handheld uses 2 AA batteries. The receiver has a power adapter for your power outlet.
Question: Some of our users want headset mic. What would be compatible headset mic, and can i order it together with this set
Answer: You will not be able to use a headset and handheld mic at the same time. The SM31 headset has a nonslip coating. The PGA31 and WH20 will work. But you need a BLX1 bodpack with frequency H9 (or whichever frequency receiver you currently have).
Question: Does this sm58 come as a dual one. I only found the pg58 dual not the sm
Answer: Shure does not make a premade BLX combo with 2 x SM58 microphones. The only way would be to purchase the BLX88 (dual channel receiver) and 2 x BLX2/SM58 (transmitter).
