12 best cardiod microphones with cables
Cardioid microphones with cables are a common type of microphone used in various audio recording and live sound applications. They are especially popular for capturing vocals and instruments due to their directional pickup pattern and reliability. Here is some information about cardioid microphones with cables:
Cardioid Pickup Pattern: The term "cardioid" refers to the microphone's pickup pattern, which is heart-shaped. Cardioid microphones are designed to primarily capture sound from the front while rejecting sound from the sides and rear. This pattern helps minimize background noise and feedback, making them ideal for live performances and studio recording.
Dynamic Microphones: Many cardioid microphones are of the dynamic microphone type. Dynamic microphones are known for their durability and ability to handle high sound pressure levels. They are commonly used on stage for live vocals and instruments.
Versatility: Cardioid microphones are versatile and can be used for a wide range of applications, including recording vocals, amplifiers, acoustic instruments, and podcasting. Their directional nature makes them suitable for isolating the sound source and reducing unwanted ambient noise.
Durability: Dynamic cardioid microphones are robust and can withstand rough handling, making them a popular choice for stage use. They are less sensitive to moisture and humidity compared to some other microphone types.
Cable Connection: Cardioid microphones typically have an XLR cable connection, which is the standard in the audio industry. This type of cable provides a secure and balanced connection, ensuring a clean and interference-free signal transmission.
Live Sound: In live sound settings, cardioid microphones are often used for vocals, as they can help reduce feedback issues caused by sound from onstage monitors. Singers can hold the microphone close to their mouths without worrying too much about feedback.
Studio Recording: In recording studios, cardioid microphones are commonly used for recording vocals, acoustic instruments, and guitar amplifiers. Their ability to focus on the sound source and reject room reflections can result in cleaner recordings.
Popularity: Some well-known cardioid microphones with cables include the Shure SM58, a legendary dynamic microphone widely used for live vocals, and the Shure SM57, another dynamic microphone renowned for its versatility in capturing instruments.
Accessories: To get the best performance from a cardioid microphone, users often pair them with accessories such as pop filters, shock mounts, and windshields to further improve audio quality and reduce handling noise.
Price Range: The cost of cardioid microphones with cables can vary widely, from budget-friendly options suitable for beginners to high-end models used in professional studios and on stages.
Overall, cardioid microphones with cables are a popular choice for many audio recording and live sound applications due to their directional pickup pattern, durability, and versatility in capturing sound while minimizing unwanted noise and feedback.

User questions & answers
Question: | I apologize for my ignorance. Need for my church. Does this run on battery alone or does it have to be hooked up to something to work |
Answer: | It does not need a battery, but you do need to connect it to an amplifier that has a mic XLR connection. Mostly this would be a separate pre-amp which is then connected to a larger console or amplifier system, though some systems combines both. |
Question: | How long is the cable that I can get with this mic |
Answer: | If the official Shure part number SM58-CN is selected, the "CN" means a 25' XLR microphone cable will be included. Other variants include SM58S which is microphone with an on/off switch, SM58-LC which is microphone only with no cable. |
Question: | What amplifier or mixer [ $20- $50 ] should i buy which is compatible with sm58 ? need suggestion |
Answer: | While there are some modest guitar amplifiers in your price range, systems for amplifying vocals tend to be more expensive. You'd be looking for a "Public Address" or "PA" system, with some compact setups starting in the $100 range. Brands like Samson, Behringer, Alesis, and Roland have some models at the lower end of the price spectrum. |
Question: | Feel free to laugh a bit and excuse my ignorance. I am starting voice lessons does this microphone only work with a computer? Or can I hook it up to something different? Ok no more laughing. Thank You |
Answer: | I'd like to correct a statement that's been made about the SM-58, which is the most popular, universal "performer's mic," found in every band that can afford it and serving as the White House microphone for heads of state. It's a "dynamic" rather than a "condenser mic," which means it's durable, tough, long-lasting, made to take abuse. But it's not the preferred microphone in the recording studio, which is where the more sensitive, nuanced condenser microphone shines (but don't toss it in a bag and "take it on the road"). Condenser mics require more power than dynamic mics, and that power is called "phantom power," which is found in most mixing boards and in many amps--and in this handy adapter. But you do NOT require Phantom Power for an XLR connection: you require it for a CONDENSER MIC. And since the popular SM58 is a DYNAMIC MIC, the Phantom Power is wasted, a needless add-on. If you want to convert your XLR to USB (or to a phone plug), there are many adapters and cables for $10 that will do the trick You certainly don't need to invest a hundred in the pictured adapter--that's sheer "overkill. It's a bit of a mystery why sellers are showing the SM58 with a Phantom-Powered Adapter for condenser mics. You may be wasting $100 on one or the other of these incompatible devices. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I thought this came with a 1/8" adapter to bring the size down from 1/4? Maybe I read the ad wrong. Do you sell 1/4 to 1/8 adapters |
Answer: | This mic does not come with that adapter. There are certainly many 1/4" to 1/8" adapters on Amazon. |
Question: | Porque me indica que no tiene cable en la descripción |
Answer: | Biene el cable separado pero en el mismo paquete |
Question: | I need a cable connector to connect this microphone to the machine. What do I need to buy |
Answer: | What do you mean by machine? You can order this mike with a XLR to XLR cable or a XLR to QTR cable. The diference between the XLR and the QTR terminal is the connector. The XLR is a 3 prom jack and the QTR is a 1/4" jack, similar to the 1/8" or 3.5mm jack you use in you cel phone or most of the stereos. If you have a regular 3.5mm input in your stereo, mixer or amplifyer yiu need to buy this mike with a XLR to QTR cable and a Reduction Jack from 1/4" Female to 1/8" Male. All the mikes terminal are XLR Female,, so the difference is at the other end of the cable, You either use a XLR terminal/jack or a 1/4" jack. |
Question: | What is the difference between pga48-qtr and pga48-xlr |
Answer: | the qtr has a 1/4" cable, the XLR has an xlr cable. We have a package with stand: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017RLEPZ0/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= or the xlr version: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072DX341N/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is a pop filter recommended |
Answer: | Yes. |
Question: | Are returns/refunds available for this microphone |
Answer: | This would need to be plugged into a microphone input....your computer likely doesn't have one built in. You can get a USB interface to plug this mic into, then USB into your computer. Or you could just get a USB microphone and a pair of headphones. This is an awesome package for it's price, but it will need to go into a mic input to work. |
Question: | It refuses to turn on with my macbook pro. i have changed cables and ports. the previous model has no problems. any ideas |
Answer: | You do not have to buy a recorder to use the mic and headphones. |
Question: | It keeps having this constant annoying audio humming noise in the background when I plug my handphones into the mic, or play it back |
Answer: | Depends on which audio-technica mic. These ZDM1 microphones sound great in the broadcast dynamic category. They can make a good run at something that sells for $400+. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between the sm58 and the pga58? I am a moble dj and karaoke host. I have customers that are really particular about the sound |
Answer: | The PGA58 is the cheap version of the SM58. The SM58 will sound a little better. If you're not super sensitive to sound then the PGA58 will likely work just fine. If I were a DJ I would do the SM58 and then just have a mixer to turn the mic off if need be. PGA58 has an ON/OFF switch on it so it can be turned off by accident. But, some folks want a power switch on the mic. |
Question: | Does this mic have an internal shock mount |
Answer: | All mics have some internal shock mount. But depending on your use, it may not be adequate. This mic is average noise for what is considered a handheld mic. |
Question: | Do i need xlr male to female or male to male |
Answer: | The microphone uses a standard XLR and has three prongs. If you order a cord with the microphone they will give you a choice of XLR or 1/4", this choice pertains to the end that does not plug into the microphone. Personnaly I selected the 1/4" so I could plug it into my amplifier (my amp has two inputs) while practicing. The 1/4" will also plug into our group's PA system becasue the PA has a plug that accepts either 1/4" or XLR. Saying all that, you need a cord with a female XLR to plug into the microphone's male XLR and the other end will be either a male 1/4" or male XLR to plug into whatever you are using to amplify your voice. |
Question: | Can you plug in this mic to an amp? My previous mic plug had a long silver end on it but this one doesn't have one |
Answer: | The cable that comes with it is XLR to XLR, so no, it won't plug into the amp without a 1/4" connector. Cable is not permanently attached to the mic, and can be changed to an XLR TO 1/4" type cable. The mic is incredible and worth every penny. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If i get the xlr to usb for my computer, do i need anything else to record and mix? cables? software |
Answer: | Hi, you have to connect this unit to your receiver using 1/4" or XLR cable. Thank you. |
Question: | can it be attached to a video camera with a cable |
Answer: | The main thing is that his mic is high impedance like a guitar and should be used with instrument inputs with the included cable with th 1/4 phone plug. If you use a typical cable with x!r on both ends into a microphone input which is low impedance, you get a low hum/buzz depending on your digital interface or preamp. Will also work with a guitar amp unlike low impedance mic. |
Question: | What is the difference in this SM57-LC and the SM57? I can't seem to find what the LC is about |
Answer: | It is packaged with a XLR to 1/4 " cable. Most sound systems will need an XLR male to XLR female commonly referred to as an "XLR cable". The supplied cable can be used with USB/FireWire/Thunderbolt interfaces that have 1/4" inputs or a combo connector. So, yes if you are plugging it into an interface. |
Question: | How is it with recording vocals |
Answer: | It should work fine for her. It also comes with 15 ft. XLR-F to 1/4" male microphone cable. So you would need to hook into a 1/4" input for microphone. |

Question: | The condenser mic doesn't fit in the shockmount that came in the box. I don't see any way to enlarge it. Is there a way to enlarge it? Wrong size |
Answer: | The MXL 770 Microphone should snugly fit in the supplied shockmount. Please try squeezing the wireframe and insert the mic. Here's a video tutorial on how to install the shockmount: [youtu. be/hb0VHAo-rM4]. |
Question: | have a good mic stand for this mic. 1 that doesn't attach to a desk |
Answer: | You may want to check out the MXL MS-003 base mic stand with boom arm if you don't want a desk-attachable boom arm. |
Question: | Can i use an adapter to hook up to PC |
Answer: | The MXL 770 is a condenser microphone so it needs 48V phantom power (as stated in the product description). You can't directly connect this mic into a PC. We recommend getting a USB audio interface that offers 48V phantom power like the U-PHORIA UM2 or UMC22: -amazon. com/dp/B0861D4LS5 -amazon. com/dp/B0861DDR8K |
