You can spend about $100 on a usb conversion box and use this model. I Use an AKAI professional ($250+) which can handle up to 4 mics and 4 outputs ALONG WITH the usb cable. All that said, you can bypass the whole thing and buy an "AT2020 USB". It hooks directly up to the laptop and there's no other equipment to buy. Warning: If you use an AT2020 USB, it will eat up your battery life, you NEED to have your machine plugged in to use it for a long duration. Reason is: the mic takes about 40 volts of power and audio recording and engineering is a processor intensive task (more CPU work = more power being consumed), it also takes a lot of memory so your HDD will be running non stop.If you're using this for fun, get the USB and save the money. If you're looking to get into more serious work, use the XLR as it's compatible with more high end equipment. |

Are you looking for built in EFX? Although my first amp was a Pyle 3000W for $100 and I used a cheap Behringer 4 bus mixer, I have moved on from that purchase. It's a "dynamic" rather than a "condenser mic," which means it's durable, tough, long-lasting, made to take abuse. But it's not the preferred microphone in the recording studio, which is where the more sensitive, nuanced condenser microphone shines (but don't toss it in a bag and "take it on the road"). Condenser mics require more power than dynamic mics, and that power is called "phantom power," which is found in most mixing boards and in many amps--and in this handy adapter. But you do NOT require Phantom Power for an XLR connection: you require it for a CONDENSER MIC. And since the popular SM58 is a DYNAMIC MIC, the Phantom Power is wasted, a needless add-on. If you want to convert your XLR to USB (or to a phone plug), there are many adapters and cables for $10 that will do the trick You certainly don't need to invest a hundred in the pictured adapter--that's sheer "overkill. It's a bit of a mystery why sellers are showing the SM58 with a Phantom-Powered Adapter for condenser mics. You may be wasting $100 on one or the other of these incompatible devices. |

Answer: | Good question. I can only tell you that the one I received is real. The mesh grill on the AUTHENTIC SHURE mic almost looks "spider web" like. The links are intertwined - the FAKE SHURE has a regular metal screen. The AUTHENTIC SHURE mic has a DEEP BLUE colored ring (not DARK BLUE!) around the grill. The FAKE one has like a "SKY BLUE" Also, at the BOTTOM of the mic, where the XLR pins are, the REAL SHURE mic will have the pins numbered "1, 2 and 3" and ALSO have the SHURE LOGO embossed on the base by the pins. The FAKE MICS will NOT. Hope this info HELPS. |

Answer: | You can purchase any of the frequencies that they offer - they all work the same, but at different frequencies. The only reason you would pick a specific is if you have another device in the room (or in a nearby room) that is using one of the offered frequencies. For instance you might want to use a second wireless microphone in the room (or in in a room next door0 -- then you would want to select two different frequencies of this microphone. These mics are very reliable. |

Answer: | I found that getting a heavy duty microphone stand works sufficiently but always put the leg of the tripod toward the front direction. Also, the clamps, although they work fine, have pads adhered to them which have come undone quickly likely due to the weight of the shield with a large condenser mic (and sometimes a pop screen). |

Answer: | Aside from performance quality, you really need a halfway decent microphone (NO USB MICS!), a decent preamp, and learn to know what you're doing a bit by reading and practicing. Learning it yourself really is the best way. Start with the best mic-preamp combo you can afford, and upgrade as you can afford. Places like Guitar Center often let you listen to their different mics and preamps so you can get a feel for what works best for your (or the performer's) voice. If you can afford ~$400 for a mic, the Shure SM7 is a great rap/hip hop mic that's used on a lot of big name musicians' songs, and is surprisingly affordable. You can also start with something cheaper, like a Shure SM58 (~$100). It's not the best mic for the money, but a good, dependable mic that's used by everyone and still sees a ton of use, even by those with the money for much better. It's predictable, and a good starting point. Depending on the style, you may be better off with a dynamic mic (like the ones I suggested) vs one of the cheaper Chinese condenser mics, especially if the singer is loud, but the most important thing is to try a bunch out to see what sounds best within your budget. Once you have a reasonable mic and preamp, then you should focus on mic placement and technique with tracking and mixing, learning how to use DAW plug-ins and such. |

Answer: | The "A" and "B" bands are actual banks of frequencies that you can use to program your mics and keep them from interfering with each other. If you use 1/4" you can use two cables and have two mics total on two separate channels, or you can you the 1/4" to plug in to four channels separately. If your DJ micxer has the xlr and 1/4" inouts then I do not see why you could not connect it to your mixer |
