Reproducing an object can be time-consuming, tedious, and error-prone. The SOL 3D scanner and software allows you to easily create a replica of objects using six simple steps:

1. Scan the object using the SOL 3D scanner with included software.
2. Review your scan in the SOL Viewer.
3. Export in one of the supported formats: OBJ, STL, XYZ, DAE, and PLY files.
4. Import your scan into your slicer software (such as Slic3r, Simplify3D, and Cura) for evaluation and any clean-up required.

Scan-to-Model

Answer:	Frankly, the BEST thing you can do is contact them and take a tutorial class. More than likely, you will be the only person in the class. They can help you solve that issue.
Question:	Can someone please post online an stl of a common household item they scanned with this scanner? like a pair of glasses or a fork or
Answer:	Neither of those objects would scan properly unfortunately. The clear lenses of the glasses and the reflectivity of the fork would destroy the scan. Shiny opaque plastic won’t even work properly. You either have to sand the shine off, or matte the surface completely with powder or paint.
Question:	How easily can you take multiple scans and combine them? I have relatively complex injection molded parts with holes, etc. and I need to capture them
Answer:	The MFStudio software for the scanner will automatically combine your scans, but to capture complex injected molded parts with through-holes and bosses and similar features often requires a hand-held scanner to get into the deeper areas. The Matter and Form V2 scanner can definitely capture the overall shape of such a part, but it will have difficulty capturing into holes and into deep crevasses.

Answer:	Only if the human were small enough to sit on the tiny turn table. But you could scan a Smurf if you could get them to sit still for 45 minutes.

Answer:	3D scanners produce STL file. It has to be reworked for Step file. CNC g-code written based on step file.
Question:	Can I use it to scan a person face? It is possible to hold it and rotate the object or just using the turntable
Answer:	Yes, you can use it to scan a face by walking around the person. Note that it can't scan hair at all, so you'll only get the skin. And (at least on the Pro) you need to move it with the smooth slow motion of a tai-chi master or else it will lose tracking, which requires you to back up and hold-still for it to recover. Recovering tracking seems to get harder and harder as a scan progresses (more points?) and at some point I always just give up. When it works the results are truly amazing! But it's a serious pain in the butt to use.

Question:	What version is the board
Answer:	The newest version of the board is 1.1.5, it does not come with the printer though. Mine came with 1.1.4 which is very similar to the 1.1.3. Creality Sells the 1.1.5 separately right now as the Creality v1.1.5 Silent Main Board. It is $50 bucks and you might find it cheaper but it is a worthwhile upgrade. It has newer stepper drivers that make the stepper motors virtually silent. I can't hear them anymore only the fans now. The board also has thermal runaway enabled and has a boot loader preinstalled so if you wanted to switch to Vanilla Marlin or the TH3D software you could do so very easily. Installing this board and the TH3D software also made adding a BL Touch kit easy.

Answer:	The actual base footprint itself requires a flat 12" x 12" surface, however certain parts such as the display panel overhang requiring a bit more space. A roughly 16" wide by about 20" deep space should be about right, although you will want to make sure both the back and front have an additional few inches to spare as the bed does move back and forth during operation. I mount mine on top of a 16" x 18" patio paver block for support and stability. I place the paver block over some dense foam that is cut about 1" in from the block edge (14" x 16"). This gives the printer a platform that helps contribute mass to absorb vibrations as well as offer a bid of noise reduction cause by sound transmission through the base. Placed a few inches from the back wall it also ensures the printer travel area remains clear. There is also YouTube video on using this technique if interested (not mine but I came across it after I came up with the same idea separately).

Answer:	It does come with a very old version of Cura. The lastest version of Cura is what I am using. Just download it from https://ultimaker.com/en/products/ultimaker-cura-software/list. If all you are doing is downloading models and printing this is all you need. If you want to make your own 3D models that complicates things. There are many, many 3d modeling programs and which one to use is a very personal choice and each takes time to learn to use. Blender is free, Sketch-up is also I think. But there are commercial programs that can cost up to a couple of thousand to use. Zbrush, Studio Max, and others. Answer:	Yes you can scan 20"x12"6" with fixed scan mode (without turntable). After the scan, you can do the basic edit (remove unnecessary parts) the image, and then you can mesh the image with either watertight or unwatertight. Finally you can save the image as OBJ, STL, ASC or PLY format.

Answer:	It's mechanically coupled to a motor with a belt drive. The motor may be a stepper, but in any case it needs to rotate with a constant angular velocity because the laser pulses are timed. Mechanically limiting the sweep would be counter productive - it would need to slow down and then re-accelerate the laser head. That would mean variable times between samples, and also it's probably slower to do than just letting the thing rotate the remaining 270 degrees. But in software you could limit the samples you analyze all you wanted to.
