12 best digital grand pianos
Digital grand pianos are sophisticated electronic musical instruments that replicate the look and sound of traditional acoustic grand pianos while offering modern features and conveniences. These instruments are popular among musicians, piano enthusiasts, and those seeking a high-quality piano-playing experience. Here's what you should know about digital grand pianos:
Appearance: Digital grand pianos are designed to resemble traditional grand pianos in terms of their shape and size. They often feature a polished wooden cabinet, a fallboard, and a keyboard cover, giving them an elegant and classic appearance.
Sound Quality: One of the key strengths of digital grand pianos is their exceptional sound quality. They use advanced sampling technology to reproduce the rich and expressive tones of acoustic grand pianos. The quality of sound can vary significantly between different models, with some offering highly realistic piano sounds.
Polyphony: Digital grand pianos typically offer polyphony, which refers to the number of individual notes the instrument can produce simultaneously. Higher polyphony numbers (e.g., 128 or 256) allow for more complex and layered musical performances.
Keyboard Action: These pianos often feature weighted or graded hammer-action keys.Weighted keys simulate the feel of an acoustic piano by offering resistance when keys are pressed, while graded hammer action replicates the sensation of playing on different-sized hammers, just like in a real grand piano.
Touch Sensitivity: Digital grand pianos are touch-sensitive, meaning that the intensity of the sound produced is determined by how forcefully a key is pressed. This feature adds nuance and expression to the music played.
Built-in Sounds: In addition to piano sounds, digital grand pianos may include a variety of other instrument sounds, such as electric pianos, organs, strings, and more. This versatility allows musicians to explore different musical styles and genres.
Effects and Recording: Many digital grand pianos come equipped with a range of built-in effects like reverb, chorus, and EQ adjustments. They also often have recording capabilities, allowing musicians to capture their performances for playback or sharing.
Connectivity: Digital grand pianos typically offer various connectivity options, including MIDI ports, USB ports, and audio outputs. This enables musicians to connect the piano to computers, recording equipment, and other devices for expanded functionality and creative possibilities.
Portability: While digital grand pianos are larger and heavier than portable digital keyboards, they are still more compact and easier to move than acoustic grand pianos, making them a suitable choice for home use.
Maintenance: Digital grand pianos require minimal maintenance compared to acoustic grand pianos. They do not need tuning, and their sound remains consistent over time.
Price Range: Digital grand pianos come in a wide price range, from affordable models suitable for beginners to high-end options with advanced features and exceptional sound quality.
In summary, digital grand pianos offer a blend of classic elegance and modern technology. They are ideal for individuals and musicians who desire the authentic sound and feel of a grand piano but also appreciate the convenience and versatility that digital technology provides.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the warranty length |
Answer: | if you are asking if there is a delay between touching the keys and the sound produced, there is not. If you are asking if it supplies a reverb delay effect. the answer is no. |
Question: | Is the included power adapter dual voltage |
Answer: | Definitely. The weighted keys respond well to dynamic play |
Question: | Can i attach a foot pedal |
Answer: | Alesis support here! When using the keyboard by itself, it can only play the built-in sounds, but with the USB connection, you can connect the Recital Pro to a computer and use it as a MIDI device to control any virtual instrument you'd like that is on your computer. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. |
Question: | When the description says adjustable key sensitivity, does that indicate that the keys are touch-sensitive and play louder based on force |
Answer: | Either the advertising is wrong, or every answer to this question is. The weighting variants for keyboards is: synth action, semi-weighted, fully weighted, hammer action. Synth action is a spring and feels like a toy. Semi-weighted are springs but with weights to keep them from springing back up too quickly, but they also feel very unnatural. Fully weighted has a more natural feel, but each of the 88-keys has the same resistance and rebound. Hammer action has actual hammers and weights built into the keys, giving them the most natural feel, and if they are "graded" hammer action keyboards, the lower octaves are heavier than the higher octaves. |

Question: | I am trying to compare the this p71 model to the p45 and p115. any help on the differences would be most appreciated |

Question: | MIDI connection |
Answer: | Yes, there is a plug-in on the back of the keyboard. I bought the M-Audio SP-2 with mine and it works fine. Any sustain pedal should work as long as it has a 1/4" jack. |
Question: | What's the difference between the amazon exclusive (p71) and standard (p45) models |
Answer: | Also means you can adjust the velocity sensitivity to the way you play...some people naturally play harder or softer so it lets them tweak the output somewhat for thier style of play, |

Yamaha P71 Weighted Digital Piano
The Yamaha P71B is an Amazon-exclusive model designed to be the perfect home digital piano for rehearsing, learning and creating. A full sized piano keyboard with fully-weighted keys and Yamaha premium piano voices provide the user with the most realistic feel and sound possible while maintaining a modest footprint in your home.
Authentic to the Touch
Yamaha's GHS (Graded Hammer Standard) weighted action has heavier touch in the low end and lighter touch in the high end, just like the hammers inside an acoustic piano. Great for the aspiring pianist, practicing on the GHS action builds the proper finger technique for when the time comes to perform on an acoustic piano.
Simple operation with just one button
Many of the settings on the P71 can be changed with a single button. Simply hold down the 'Grand Piano/Function' button and press selected keys to change voices, play demo sources, configure the metronome, and so on.
Yamaha's classic sound engine
AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) sampling uses digital technology to record the sound of an acoustic piano. AWM Stereo Sampling creates a deeper, richer and more spacious sound by using pairs of waveforms (L and R) captured with two microphones. The P71 uses AWM to play one sample per key at varying levels of volume and timbre.

User questions & answers
Question: | Could you reverse the stand so speakers are facing out for a performance |
Answer: | I don't know about that model. But we do have a Yamaha PSR-6. While the keyboard has fewer keys than our standard piano, the keys are the same size. Thus I would think so. Hope that's of some help. |
Question: | is this 220 or 110v |
Answer: | It will play more than one; the keys seem to strike something metallic in the piano (no strings or chords). So, it's hard to distinguish if you hit too many keys at the same time. |
Question: | I’d like to buy this for my son and I, both beginners. Would an average sized,8 year old be able to use this with an adjustable piano bench |
Answer: | If your asking the recommended age I'm not sure. But my daughter has been using this piano since she could sit up at 6 months. |
Question: | Are the keys weighted ? Are they as heavy as the real piano |
Answer: | It sounds very good for a toy piano, but it definitely sounds like a toy piano. If you want the sound of a real one, you will have to pay for it. My daughter enjoys her piano though. I would recommend it as a great toy. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are the keys of the piano full-size |
Answer: | There isn't a record option on the keyboard itself. An option I haven't discovered, if it is there. It does have a port on the back. I'm assuming I can connect my laptop to. I'm still new to this product. Been too busy learning to play :P |
Question: | Does it come with a chair |
Answer: | Yes, it has a USB port on the back which you can connect to your computer. You will need a USB A-Male to B-Male like this one - https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-USB-2-0-Cable-Male/dp/B00NH11KIK/ref=pd_sim_sbs_147_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=41GqSLLamyL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&psc=1&refRID=84ZVFW6MHR8S1E0BDMRA |
Question: | The upper range of keys, top octave, both black and white have poor sound, tinny and weak. Is this correct |
Answer: | This digital piano does not have the range of dynamics of my acoustic piano. It definitely has a range of dynamics and is touch sensitive. I like the way it responds. However, it doesn't do pianissimo, but it does piano level soft. Forte is somewhat more consistent with the acoustic piano. I primarily use my digital keyboard with headphones so I can play without interfering with the other activities in the house. I still have my acoustic piano and play it when I am alone in the house. |
Question: | What is the difference between ddp-90 and the ddp-100? similar in price but can't find answer anywhere |
Answer: | Yes, the Yamaha P45B comes with the Yamaha PA150 power adapter (a 120V, 60 Hz adapter) that plugs into a "standard U.S." outlet. |
