User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between vandoren cr112 eb clarinet traditional reeds strength 2 and cr102bb |
Answer: | The cr112 reeds provide a more quality, clear tone, while the cr102's are a bit less quality but not as pricey. |
Question: | Where are these made |
Answer: | France Cane is the raw material for making reeds. It is a 100% natural plant that we grow for most of our needs in our cane fields located in Southern France. |
Question: | Are these round or straight where the reed starts to taper |
Answer: | The tip it rounded to match a mouth piece. The bottom (upTo where out trappers) is slightly rounded but the entire Reed is flat against the mouthpiece. This brand of reed has excellent sound. I highly recommend it. |
Question: | Is it possible to get a refund because i play regular 3 reeds and these 3s are too thin |
Answer: | I don’t see why not. Try using the refund process here on amazon. You can take it to your local Kohl’s for return and refund if they accept it |

User questions & answers
Question: | My daughter uses 2.5 in regular reeds and she is planning to move up to 3.0 with regular. However, with the V12 is it better to get |
Answer: | The strength of the reed you buy should be based on the comfortability of the person who is playing and the range they are playing in. The higher the strength of the reed, the more air you need to push to make a great sound and in turn, the higher the range of notes you can play in. However, if you are switching from a 2.5 strength reed, I would recommend playing on a 3 strength reed before you move on to a 3.5 strength reed for a better understanding of how it feels in that strength. |
Question: | Is 3 1/2+ the same as |
Answer: | In my experience as a Music Education Major, 3 1/2 plus can range between 3 1/2 and a 4. I play on 3 1/2+ during the summer and 3 1/2 during the cooler season. I find that about half of them are closer to a 4 and half are closer to a 3 1/2. I save the harder reeds for summer and play the softer ones during the fall. I usually buy 3 1/2 when we are going into our colder months and then I buy 3 1/2+ when we are going into our hotter months. (I buy a box of 10 reeds a month) |
Question: | What is the difference between these vandoren reeds (cr193) and the other vandoren reeds (cr103)? the price difference is around 33% more for these |
Answer: | The overall tone quality produced with these reeds are darker than the blue box Vandorens. |
Question: | The picture shows a box of 2.5 reeds, but the description say 4.5-are they |
Answer: | The box says 2.5 so that box is 2.5. The seller may have just used a picture he had on hand. I think if he says 4.5 he is selling the harder reeds. |

Answer: | I use mine for tenor sax reeds. Works fine for that. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a hard Rubber or plastic mouthpiece |
Answer: | Hard Rubber |
Question: | I'm just starting to learn clarinet, so will it be ok to start using this with my D'addario 2.5 Reserve Classics |
Answer: | When my son first started playing he did not use these. After a year he switched to these so I’m not sure if they are for beginners? He liked them a lot and said it was easier to play with these. |
Question: | How easy is it to play on this mouthpiece |
Answer: | Think the answer to your question would really depend on what the rest of your equipment looks like. I purchased this for use with my Selmer 10-Gs (and using 3.5 strength Vandoren V-12 reeds) and have been very pleased with the results. Also purchased an M-15 mouthpiece as a second choice and good as a backup. But the M13 Lyre is definitely my first choice. |
Question: | I have been playing the same Yamaha mouthpiece that came with my clarinet 4 years later. Will this fit on my Yamaha |
Answer: | Yes |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the sound a little darker and warmer than that he v12 reeds |
Answer: | For me it was quite similar to the V12. I would describe the V12 as warmer. For me the upper register was easier to play / less Tinny than the V12 but they were both very similar for me. |
Question: | would these reeds work on alto Bb clarinet |
Answer: | I'm not sure I understand your question because the alto clarinet is pitched in Eb, not Bb. However, I can tell you that the Eb alto clarinet needs a larger reed than the standard Bb clarinet, so the answer to your question is probably "no". As far as I can tell, Amazon doesn't sell Rue Lepics for alto clarinet (and I'm not sure that Vandoren even makes them). Your best bet for alto clarinet reeds is probably to go with the standard blue box reeds: http://www.amazon.com/Vandoren-Alto-Clarinet-Reeds-3-5/dp/B0002D0ALO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384734362&sr=8-1. |
Question: | I play a 4 stength on the v12's, what strength should I play on these |
Answer: | Try the 4s. True, they are better quality reeds, but you can probably use a 4. |
Question: | Do these reeds still come in the special rigid set-up box? Or do they now come in a standard Vandoren box |
Answer: | Still in the rigid box pictured |

Question: | That’d be cool if it was gold plated. I don’t think it is tho lol. Is it |
Answer: | yes, it is gold plated |
Question: | Is there a difference in sound or response depending on finish |
Answer: | No. None at all. But what I found better that I like and is much more responsive to my playing is ROVNER, the DARK ligature. Great tone. I also have the OPTIMUM. It is my next pick but my favorite is the ROVNER. |
Question: | Is there a diiference is sound and response based on finish |
Answer: | Finish is difficult to qualify but using the metal versus a plastic ligature appears to give a clearer and brighter sound. |
Question: | I own a Bonade inverted ligature and the metal is soft and i need to remold it every time. Will this lig solve it and improve tone quality |
Answer: | No and yes. The Vandoren is much lighter weight metal than my Bonade inverted ligatures. Check how you are storing your Bonade, it should not need "remolding" for each use. Something in the case may be bending it. They are substantial ligatures. The Vandoren, being lighter, should restrain the reed's vibrations less. It might seem a bit brighter or richer than the Bonade. The M/O is my preference of the two. |
