User questions & answers

Question: I was wondering if the rico b flat clarinet mouthpiece is universal. will it fit a yamaha brand clarinet as well
Answer: I believe it will, but, you may have to sand the Tenon cork if it is too tight. I did find an issue with the ligature. It has small raised dots on the reed side and if you go to adjust the mouthpiece, the ligature and reed pop off. I am a Music Teacher and Instrument Repairman and have let Rico know about this problem. No answer yet. Hope that helps. I believe Rico has a GREAT Product Line and will continue to stock them and recommend them. I would give it a try and if it is not right send it back.

User questions & answers

Question: In the 10-pack, do the reeds come sealed individually within the box. Is each reed individually wrapped in cellophane (like they used to be
Answer: In this 10 pack, each reed comes in an individual plastic case. They are not wrapped in cellophane.
Question: When purchasing reeds, do they come with reed holders or do you have to buy those individually
Answer: The reeds that I purchased came in plastic reed holders but I didn't buy a whole box. I'm not sure about reed holders if a box is purchased.
Question: Are these a lot harder than the 2.5s or just a bit harder to play on
Answer: I found them just a little harder than a 2.5
Question: How do these compare with the Grand Concert and those ripoff, unreliable Vandorens
Answer: The are not as good as the Rico Grant Concert series, but they are better then the Vandorens. My issue is that I am not sure they are the Rico brand as the title indicates, if you look at the box under the word Royal, it shows another maker, not Rico.

User questions & answers

Question: Tenor saxophone mental mouthpieces
Answer: Those reeds depicted are for clarinet and not saxophone.
Question: Are these premium or standard? my daughter's music teacher recommended standard for her
Answer: These are standard. Premium has 5 in a box and these have 10 in a box. I used premium for years and then decided to try standard simply for the fact of getting more for the money. I like these standard better. They seem to play easier. I will stick with these. Hope they work out for your daughter.
Question: What happened to the price? I paid $16.95 for 10 in July, now they are up to $23.95. No difference than a music store
Answer: We sell this for $19.84. not quite $16.95, but better than $23.95.

From the Manufacturer

Rico Reserve Classic Clarinet reeds in strength 3.0 are designed with a medium blank taper for greater flexibility, and a gradual tip radius for tonal warmth and quick response and articulation. There are 10 highly consistent reeds in each box.

Rico Reserve Classic reeds have been designed for clarinetists by clarinetists in collaboration with Mark Nuccio, Acting Principal Clarinetist of the NY Philharmonic, and offer the perfect combination of flexibility and projection. Like all Reserve reeds, only the lower sections of each cane pole are selected - a technique Rico has pioneered that yields the highest-density cane available, resulting in a greater consistency from reed to reed.
