| Answer: | You can,t go by looks alone. You would need a mouthpiece tip opening measuring device to see the difference. The main difference between the Jumbo Java A45 and A55 is the tip opening. The distance between the bottom center tip of the reed to the bottom tip of the inside of the center tip of the mouthpiece. The A45 has a tip opening of 0.86.6 inches and the A55 has a tip opening of 0.97.2 inches. With the same numbered size reed it should be eaiser to play the A45 Jumbo before running out of air! It's the A35 that I own and use for lead Ato playing in a big band setting.In contrast the A35(which I own) plays the easiest of them all, still with power, brightness, and projection. You would not want to use any of the Jumbo's say for concert band playing, thhey are just to loud. |

| Answer: | Amazon is very good about exchanges, but being a mouthpiece, it may depend on who the actual vendor is. Look for "ships and sold by Amazon" under the price. Those are returnable. If it's sold by a 3rd party, but shipped from Amazon, it may not be. And if only trying out a mouthpiece, ALWAYS us one of those rubber mouthpiece patches, so you don't leave any bite marks. |

| Answer: | It's not a dumb question at all. The model numbers AL3, AL4, AL5 refer mostly to tip opening with AL3 having the smallest tip opening. The AL3 with a soft reed such as 1-1/2 or 2 will blow with the least back pressure while the AL4 will have a greater back pressure and the AL5 the greatest back pressure. Long story short here is if you don't mind blowing 'till you face turns red go for the wider tips but use a narrow tip (AL3) to enjoy playing your sax without exerting exceptional effort. You can still play an AL3 loud with a soft reed - today's reeds are amazing, try a few different kinds until you find one or two that work for you. Hope this helps. |

Even still, they can last very long.They do not leave any film on the mouthpiece, and there is very minimal stickiness, that can easily be rubbed off with a little spit on your finger. The cushions can be taken off and put on again to be replaced or repositioned. |

| Answer: | It all depends; if she's never used guards before, I'd recommend the thinner the better, just to get used to them. I only just started using them on clarinet, and soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones because of a recommendation from a repair man, and these type work well on all of them. The color doesn't really matter other than preference. You can't really see the clear ones, and the black ones just seem to be a different color to differentiate that they are thicker. Perhaps the thicker ones might be better if your daughter has *very* sensitive teeth, but I'm fairly sure either one works well for protecting the mouthpiece (which is kind of secondary, unless you have a *really* nice mouthpiece). |
