14 best oem acoustic guitar strings
OEM acoustic guitar strings are strings manufactured by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for acoustic guitars. These strings are often included as part of a guitar's original setup or as replacements for worn-out strings. Here's what you need to know about them:
Material: OEM acoustic guitar strings are typically made from various materials, with the most common being steel, bronze, and phosphor bronze. The choice of material affects the tone and playability of the strings.
String Gauges: Acoustic guitar strings come in different gauges, which refer to the thickness of the strings. Lighter gauges are easier to play but may have a brighter tone, while heavier gauges can provide a fuller and warmer sound but require more finger strength to play.
String Types: There are several types of acoustic guitar strings, including:
Steel Strings: These are the most common type and are suitable for most acoustic guitars. They provide a bright and crisp tone.
Bronze Strings: Bronze strings, particularly phosphor bronze, are known for their warm and mellow tone. They are favored by many acoustic guitarists.
Nylon Strings: Nylon strings are used on classical guitars and produce a soft and warm tone. They are not typically found on steel-string acoustic guitars.
Coated vs. Uncoated: Some OEM acoustic guitar strings come with a protective coating to extend their lifespan and maintain their tone for a more extended period. Coated strings are less prone to corrosion from sweat and environmental factors.
Tuning Stability: The quality of the strings can affect the tuning stability of your guitar.High-quality OEM strings are less likely to go out of tune frequently.
Replacing Strings: Guitarists often replace their strings when they become worn, lose their tone, or break. The frequency of string replacement depends on how often you play and your playing style.
Brand and Compatibility: OEM strings are usually designed to be compatible with specific guitar models or brands. When replacing strings, it's a good idea to choose strings that match your guitar's specifications for the best sound and playability.
Tone and Sound: The choice of strings significantly influences the tone and sound of your acoustic guitar. Experimenting with different string materials and gauges can help you find the sound that suits your playing style and preferences.
String Winding: Acoustic guitar strings can have various winding patterns, including plain, roundwound, and flatwound. The winding affects the string's texture and tone.
Maintenance: Proper maintenance of your guitar strings, such as cleaning them after playing and using a string lubricant, can help extend their lifespan and maintain their playability.
In summary, OEM acoustic guitar strings are an essential component of your guitar's setup, and their choice can significantly impact your instrument's sound and playability. Experimenting with different types of strings can help you find the perfect match for your playing style and musical preferences.

Strum confidently with the same premium acoustic guitar strings that experienced players worldwide trust to keep their incredible tone longer than any other string available. Unlike other string brands, Elixir Strings coats the whole string. This protects not only the outer string surface but also the gaps between the windings where common tone-deadening gunk typically builds up in other brands’ coated and uncoated guitar strings. Anti-Rust Plating on plain steel strings ensures longer tone life for the entire set. Who wouldn’t love more quality playing time between the hassle and cost of string changes? Engineered to endure, these acoustic strings constructed with phosphor bronze wrap wire boast a dynamic balance of rich, full-bodied tone and sparkling high-end clarity. Compared to our original POLYWEB Coating, the ultra-thin NANOWEB Coating allows a more traditionally textured, “uncoated” feel. For a slicker, gentler feel, try a set of strings with our original POLYWEB Coating. The 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings with POLYWEB Coating, for example, might be a good fit if you want a more robust and rounded tone. On the other end of the tone spectrum, our 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings with NANOWEB Coating deliver a brighter, crisper tone alongside the same traditional feel as these phosphor bronze strings. Of course, the kind of string you play is all a matter of personal preference. Not sure what tone or feel is right for you? Try them out for yourself, and find your new favorite string from Elixir Strings. For a more in-depth look at what makes our strings so special, scroll to the branded info further down the page. Elixir Strings: Great tone. Long life.

User questions & answers
Question: | Would you recommend this for a Taylor 816ce |
Answer: | I have a 614ce and these are perfect! The custom lights (.11) are also acceptable but you may lose some volume, still they sound good. I would play around with gauges and get the best feel and sound for you! Taylors are high class! |
Question: | how many strings are in the package |
Answer: | This is a full set of 6 strings for acoustic guitar. |
Question: | Are all 6 strings supposed to be bronze and nano coated, or are the E-1 and B-2 anti-rust plain steel |
Answer: | On the individual strings' paper packets, only the wound strings (G-3 through E-6) have "Nanoweb coating" text. The E-1 and B-2 strings say "anti-rust plain steel" instead. |
Question: | What is the difference in sound between an 80/20 and phosphor bronze please? And poly and nano web? Which is warmer, less bright |
Answer: | 80/20 is very bright and crisp... Phosphor bronze is far more articulate and warm. And over all a more balanced sound. Hence why they cost a bit more than 80/20. As for poly vs nano? Poly has more coating to protect the strings.. But dull the sound a bit. Nano has less coating but last a bit less than poly. Hope that helps. |

Made For Musicians Who Just Want To Play More Music
Ever since pioneering coated string technology in 1997, our reason for making premium guitar strings has remained simple—we want you to have more quality playing time between the hassle and cost of string changes. And gig after gig, session after session, lesson after lesson, we’ve delivered. In fact, experienced players worldwide trust our corrosion-defying strings to keep their tone longer than any other brand’s coated or uncoated strings,* and we’re proud to stand as America’s #1 acoustic guitar string brand.**
We now offer three premium acoustic string options, each featuring our patented coating technology, to help you find exactly the tone and feel you’re looking for. Thanks to the unique differences between metals and coatings, we offer a long-lasting set for any style. From bright and sparkling to rich and robust, the dynamic range of available sound is yours for the picking. Of course, finding the string that’s right for you is a matter of personal preference. So try them out for yourself!

Less Sweat, Debris, And Finger Squeak
The way your strings sound has a lot to do with what you normally can’t see. While both of our patented coatings reduce noisy finger squeak, they also cut down on a large number of other pesky annoyances common to your average uncoated string. Sweat, skin, dirt, and even air, for example, can do a lot of damage to your strings. And if you live in a hot, humid area, the moisture in the atmosphere can wreak total havoc on your strings’ tone life. But with Elixir Strings, you’re getting world-class protection that’s engineered to endure.
Polyweb Coating Vs NANOWEB Coating
POLYWEB Coating was our first coated string innovation all the way back in the '90s. It tends to warm and mellow the string’s tone and has a fast, slick feel that’s gentle on the fingers, which lets players keep jamming without the strings getting in the way. As a response to players who said they prefer a more traditional feel, NANOWEB Coating was then designed. This ultra-thin coating allows a brighter, crisper tone while offering the same amount of tone-life protection as its predecessor.
Coated Like No Other
Unlike other string brands, Elixir Strings coats the whole string. This protects not only the outer string surface but also the gaps between the windings where common tone-deadening gunk typically builds up in other brands’ coated and uncoated guitar strings. That’s why Elixir strings retain their tone longer than any other brand’s string, coated or uncoated. Simply put, build-up and corrosion kill your tone, and Elixir strings protect against elements that cause build-up and corrosion. All while sounding exactly how you’d expect a premium set of strings to sound.
Anti-Rust Plating
Corrosion protection between wrap wire windings is all well and good, but you may be asking yourself, 'What about the strings that don’t have a wrap wire?' And we’re proud to tell you, don’t worry—we’ve got those covered too. Literally. With our signature Anti-Rust Plating, even your plain steel strings defy the elements. This ensures longer tone life not just for your coated wound strings, but for your entire set. When we say you’ll have more gigging, jamming, touring, or practice time between string changes, we mean it.

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these metal or nylon |
Answer: | They are metal (steel) strings. Strings 3 to 6 are actually Brass wound around a core wire, with an anti-rust coating applied to the outside. Regards. |
Question: | Are these the same metal strings on the yamaha fs |
Answer: | The Yamaha website says that the Yamaha FS 800 ships with either Yamaha FS50BT strings or D'Addario EXP11 strings. |
Question: | I can see that the seller is in Japan but many of these strings which are sold on web are made in Indonesia so where these strings exactly are made |
Answer: | They are made in Indonesia by "Yamaha Music Manufacturing Indonesia Co, Ltd." The product is shipped from Japan, and the strings are exactly the same with the original strings that my guitar has. |
Question: | what is the difference between the blue packaging and the beige packaging |
Answer: | These (FS550T) are light gauge coated strings. The beige package are uncoated medium gauge (FS530). Have no idea if they are otherwise similar in their composition. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do you have to use cordoba mini strings or can you use any brand of E-E strings on the Cordoba Mini guitars |
Answer: | I have never tried regular strings. The Cordoba Mini strings have ball ends on the basses, but you have to take the ball ends off the trebles that are on the guitar and put them on the new strings. Something of a chore to do. Not sure why they did this. It would be very difficult to take the ball ends off the basses and put them on a regular set of classical guitar strings, but it could be done.Great question!DanielCálido GuitarsEDIT: I agree with Chris Z. - DO NOT use acoustic steel strings! They will damage the guitar because the tension is much higher. |
Question: | Could anyone tell me if once tuned 1 full step lower the strings aren't too loose? Thanks |
Answer: | The strings are fine at one full step lower. Just a little less tight, but they sound fine.Daniel |
Question: | Do these strings give a fuller, lower tone....I would think so but can't find many people who have swapped them from the A to A strings |
Answer: | The strings do produce a lower-tone. The real benefit is that they allow you to play the mini exactly as you would your full-size guitar. I think that the A-A tuning is standard on the mini because it allows ukulele players to play uke tunes on the bottom four strings. Also, the A-A strings are a bit "brighter" which some prefer on a small body instrument. |
Question: | Can these be used to replace A tuning Strings for Cordoba guilele also |
Answer: | I have never tried them, but they should work ok. The scale length on the Mini is 510mm and the scale length on the Guilele is 432mm so they are plenty long enough. Should have similar tension, too. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would this case fit my daughter's Yamaha apxt |
Answer: | Simply check the inside measurements to see if it fits your guitar. |
Question: | Will a Gibson ES 350 fit in this case |
Answer: | Hello, It is definitely possible, the 350 model tends to be a bit thicker than the 335 - so it may fit well in a Jumbo style case. Unless it is a 350T, which tends to be a bit thinner and much closer to a 335 body. Unfortunately, we have not had a chance to test this fit. We'd recommend measuring your guitar and comparing the dimensions to those of the case. This will assure the fit. See below for the Dims of the GW-JUMBO. Body Length: 23.5 " Body Height: 5.5 " Lower Bout Width: 17.25 " Middle Bout Width: 11.25 " Upper Bout Width: 13 " Overall Length: 44.5 " If you have any other questions, please reach out to us directly. Thanks! |
Question: | Will this fit a Epiphone ej |
Answer: | It does. Ordered it |
Question: | Will this fit the gibson l5 semi hollowbody electric lead guitar |
Answer: | Hello, We would not recommend the GW-JUMBO for a Semi-hollow Guitar. Instead, we'd recommend measuring your guitar and comparing the dimensions to those of the GW-335. Or sending the dimensions to [email protected], where one of our case advisors can assist you directly with finding the best fit. Thanks! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do you have a 7712N-D string |
Answer: | Try juststrings |
Question: | Will these work well with my Hofner Ignition |
Answer: | Yes, they should work well with that bass, just make sure they are short scale. They feel great. I used a set for years, on a hollow body Guild Starfire. Easy on the fingers. |
Question: | Is this for a standard tuning or a low B tuning |
Answer: | I don’t understand your question. All 4 string basses are tuned the exact same way. There is no low B. All 5 string basses are strung the exact same way, with a low B being the biggest and lowest string. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Will these be the right length for a 32” scale bass? Also, are the silk ends purple like the 750n set |
Answer: | Yes, mine were purple. I absolutely love their sound and feel, but sadly do not own a short-scale bass and so do not know how well they would fit; the "E" may be a bit of an issue but the other strings should work fine (depending on headstock configuration). ... The 760NHBB may be more what you are looking for - ""34′′ distance from ball-end to silk" ... ? |

User questions & answers
Question: | will this be too small for a 5'3 women |
Answer: | There made in Indonesia but sound decent mine has an invader in the bridge this is what it sounds like. https://youtu.be/4HcqNnZq7ek |
Question: | What material are the strings |
Answer: | The guitar feels good for it's price range. It's a good intermediate level guitar with nice pick up's, but I would not get one with a Floyd Rose. After using it a couple times that guitar goes out of tune. If you want to get a guitar with a tremolo system it would be best to save your money until you could afford a high end guitar with a FR 1000 or FR 1500. But if you do want this guitar (and it is still nice guitar for the price) I'd recommend a hard tail. |
Question: | Is this guitar made in the USA, or was it made overseas |
Answer: | Yes, for the extended warranty |

Question: | I looked at a Fender 60S in a store and like it for the price ... Ia this similar in quality and size to the dreadnaught |
Answer: | the only difference in quality is left to right, however fender acoustic guitars are not very good quality guitars there made on a production line in indonesia and they spit out a 1000 per day, for the price of a fender i would buy a yamaha fg800 it is a lot better quality and has a solid top it has a much better sound. i have a few yamaha guitars and they sound good for the money but go to somewhere like guitar center and try them out and see for yourself. PS i bought a fender 60s and it was crap |
Question: | What type of finish...gloss or satin |
Answer: | It's a gloss finish. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work on an apxt |
Answer: | It should. The apxt2 is a 3/4th size guitar but the string spacing should still be the same |
Question: | Will this work on non classical acoustic guitars |
Answer: | Measure your guitar. If it fits, it will work. If too big, sand til it fits. These are very nice imho. |
Question: | Will this fit a fender starcaster |
Answer: | I would not recommend using for the Fender starcaster. You could not use the bridge at all and Although this is a fine nut and bridge set for acoustic guitars I believe the nut would be too thick for the starcaster. It might fit width wise but could potentially affect intonation by changing the string angle from nut to keys. This could cause the string to pivot slightly off the intended position. You could fix it by filling the slots at an angle toward the keys but why go to all that trouble. The nut would never really look right anyway. I would recommend looking for electric guitar nuts instead. Amazon has several bone nuts made for Fender necks. I hope this helps. |
Question: | What is the String spacing, from center of groove 1st to 6th |
Answer: | it is 35mm ( 1 3/8 inch) from center low e to center high e |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are the screw holes straight/perpendicular to the housing, as shown picture 1 & 2. Or, are they angled, as shown picture |
Answer: | I bought these (6r) to replace my tuners on my Made in Indonesia Squier Bullet Stratocaster. For me, they were NOT a drop in replacement. The screw holes were close but not close enough to use without filling the old holes and drilling new ones. The tabs you turn for tuning were also a little larger than my originals. Otherwise I think they were good for the price but just not the drop in replacement I was hoping for. |
Question: | Again I ask what is the turning ratio for these tuners? Please give actual ratio |
Answer: | They are metal as far as I can recall. |
Question: | Will these work for s Fender Squier |
Answer: | I used them on a Crestline acoustic guitar. Not sure but don't see why they wouldn't work for you. |
Question: | Do these fit epiphone style guitars |
Answer: | i used them on a rogue and a burnswood both acoustic. you might have to get a mm ruler to determine the if the length of the actual string peg extends enough depending on the width depth of you actual headstock. i'm about to buy another set to use on an old 60's kay acoustic i'm repairing. the mm ruler should only cost like 3 dollars and can be found pretty much anywhere. or use the inch to mm converter on google. and check back the dimensions on amazon to insure proper length. i'm betting they would i have not found an acoustic that they did not work on as of yet. |
