13 best emg acoustic guitar pickups

EMG acoustic guitar pickups are a type of electronic pickup system designed for acoustic guitars. These pickups are part of the family of electric guitar parts and accessories and are used to amplify the sound of an acoustic guitar for live performances and recording. Here's what you need to know about EMG acoustic guitar pickups:

  1. Purpose: EMG acoustic guitar pickups are designed to capture the natural acoustic sound of the guitar and convert it into an electrical signal that can be amplified through an amplifier or sound system. This allows acoustic guitarists to play at higher volumes and with added effects.

  2. Construction: These pickups are typically mounted on or inside the guitar's body. They consist of a transducer or a piezo element that senses the vibrations of the guitar's soundboard when the strings are played. This vibration is then converted into an electrical signal.

  3. Types of EMG Acoustic Pickups:

    • Soundhole Pickups: Some EMG pickups are designed to be placed in the soundhole of the acoustic guitar. They are easy to install and can be removed when not in use.
    • Under-Saddle Pickups: Under-saddle pickups are mounted under the guitar's saddle (bridge) and are less visible. They provide a more natural and balanced tone.
    • Combination Systems: Some EMG pickups combine different pickup technologies to capture a broader range of acoustic tones.
  4. Preamps: EMG acoustic guitar pickups often come with built-in preamp systems. These preamps help to shape and enhance the amplified sound of the guitar, allowing players to adjust tone, volume, and sometimes add EQ settings.

  5. Output: The electrical signal generated by the pickup is sent to an amplifier or sound system via a standard guitar cable or a specialized preamp system.

  6. Benefits:

    • Improved Volume: EMG pickups allow acoustic guitarists to achieve higher volume levels, making them suitable for live performances and band settings.
    • Feedback Resistance: Many EMG acoustic pickups are designed to minimize feedback issues, which can be a problem when amplifying acoustic guitars at high volumes.
    • Tonal Control: The built-in preamp systems often provide tone-shaping options, enabling players to tailor their sound to their preferences.
  7. Installation: Installation of EMG acoustic guitar pickups typically requires some technical skill. It may involve routing a cavity for the preamp, mounting the pickup, and wiring it to the preamp system.

  8. Compatibility: EMG pickups are available for various acoustic guitar models and can be compatible with different guitar brands. However, it's essential to ensure that the pickup is suitable for your specific guitar model.

  9. Cost: The cost of EMG acoustic guitar pickups can vary based on factors like the pickup type, features, and the complexity of installation. Higher-end models with advanced preamp systems may be more expensive.

In summary, EMG acoustic guitar pickups are a popular choice among acoustic guitarists looking to amplify their instruments. They offer benefits such as improved volume, feedback resistance, and tonal control, making them a valuable addition for live performances and recording sessions. Proper installation and compatibility considerations are essential when selecting and installing EMG acoustic guitar pickups.

EMG JH James Hetfield Signature Guitar Pickup Set, Black Chrome

Based on 217 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Now available in EMG Metal Works Finishes and EMG’s Solderless Installation System components, the JH Set consists of the JH-N (neck) and the JH-B (bridge). Both were patterned after the pickups James had used for 30 years, but the end result was a completely different animal. The JH-N has individual ceramic poles and bobbins that feature a larger core and are taller than the 60. This produces more attack, higher output, and fuller low end in the neck position. The JH-B uses the same type of core but has steel pole pieces, unlike the 81 that uses bar magnets. This produces the familiar tight attack with less inductance for a cleaner low end. Metal Works consists of six stainless steel cap options for any of EMG's active or passive humbucker pickups. These U.S.A made caps are available in Gold, Chrome, Brushed Gold, Brushed Chrome, and Brushed Black Chrome. These striking new designs offer players and instrument builders a broader range of premium cap options. All the power and clarity of EMG electronics, now with a modern classic look.

User questions & answers

Question: Hi, I've seen on emg website that is available two models of this item, for strato and for les paul. Which one is available in your store
Answer: Hello Rodrigo, These are only available in the Black Nickel finish (shown) and only available in standard humbucker size. They are available in Short (Strat) or Long (Les Paul) shaft versions. Short (Strat) reference is intended for Strat bodies ONLY if your Strat has a humbucker configuration. Les Pauls require a slightly longer shaft due to the curved raised Les Paul top. Hope that helps ProAudioLand
Question: Does this kit have everything i need for a gibson les paul
Answer: It does and fits nicely
Question: Hi, i want this set for an ex 50 ltd guitar, should it fit in? thank you
Answer: These should fit fine, it looks like the LTD EX50 is using standard sized guitar humbuckers. Not sure about the battery fit. Make sure that there is room in the electronics cavity if you are not willing to route for a separate battery compartment.
Question: will they work with an esp ltd ec
Answer: These are designed to replace standard humbuckers, so if your guitar is equipped with standard humbucker pickups these will fit. These may not work if your guitar has mini-humbuckers or P90's, check your pickup cavity for dimensions before ordering.

User questions & answers

Question: Does a rechargeable battery work as sufficiently as a standard 9v
Answer: Perfectly. Those pickups work from 7v (old worn battery) to 27v (three batteries in series). The more volts, bigger the headroom. One battery 9v is more than enough for a big sound, and it lasts thousands of hours. Just unplug the guitar cable to conserve the battery. But pay attention to your rechargeables: modern eneloop lithium batteries Keep good charge for years when left unused, while old ni-mh units decay within weeks, being used or not.
Question: Will these fit in a jackson js32 dinky
Answer: They fit into the cavity of my Jackson Soloist with no problem.
Question: Will this fit in a Jackson kelly js32t
Answer: I don't own a Kelley but fits perfect in my Jackson rhoads. So I would say it will fit. There's a diagram for 2 pot installation in the box. Make sure there's enough room for 9v battery in the pot cavity when you install.
Question: Does the zw 81/85 set include the solderless installation kit? i see some buyers saying "yes" and others saying "no
Answer: yes. for me it did. It included everything that I needed to install the pickups. maybe others are saying "no" because they bought each pickup separately. I bought them together in one box. I bought them here on amazon. They arrived in one box with zakk wyldes picture on the box. I had to look at one or two videos that I found on youtube to help me with the installation, but it pretty much took me about an hour to install. just remember to measure EVERYTHING! from the height of the original pickups to the height of the volume and tone knobs.

The EMG-60 is incredible for rhythm guitar as metal and extreme players have discovered. User questions & answers

Question: Dose it include the Conversion Kit
Answer: The box includes: EMG's exclusive Quik-Connect™ cable, prewired split shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, screws & springs.
Question: Is this emg good in the bridge position? I originally purchased an 85 (active) and a h4 (passive) not realizing that active and passive don’t mix
Answer: In my experience, I prefer an 81 in the bridge and a 60 in the neck positions. I have another setup with 81 bridge and 85 neck and just don't care for the 85's sound in the neck position. Give the 85 a shot in the bridge and the 60 in the neck and see how it sounds, they're wired for fast disconnect so you can swap them around easily.
Question: can these work with a special ii
Answer: I honestly don't know. I contacted EMG customer support and they were extremely helpful. I will buy EMG products over any one elses because of that help.
Question: Is it possible to run with the volume and no tone
Answer: Yes, you can. It's actually the very first wiring diagram in the instructions, and the pickup comes with both a volume and tone pots, as well as all the required wiring, in case you needed them. EMG does a great job of making installation a breeze!

EMG Acoustic Saddle Pickup System - Narrow

Based on 3 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The EMG-AS93U is among the most natural-sounding saddle transducer systems in the world and EMG was the first to produce a piezo film pickup, receiving two patents for its designs. This is a complete system that includes a saddle pickup (AT93), APA-2 preamp, and the EMG Endpin Jack, amplifying the natural tone of your guitar without added overtones or coloration. Highs have a natural brilliance and the low-end is full and rich. The AT93 pickup is included, using piezo film in a layered format (Bimorph) that has many advantages over other film designs as well as piezo crystals. The layering allows a lower output impedance as well as double the output of other designs. Unlike the crystals, the film has no resonance in the audible region so it doesn't have that annoying harshness inherent in the crystal pickups. Secondly, because the film runs the length of the pickup, any number of strings or any string spacing can be used. Before purchasing, you should measure the width of the saddle of your guitar to be sure you get the right pickup. The AS93U System is for 3/32" saddle-width.Included with each system is EMG's EMG-APA-2 preamp. This is a miniature preamp/battery holder unit that is easily mounted to the neck block using a 3M dual-lok fastener. It incorporates an FET input for low noise and a very high-input impedance (20 megohms) so you can finally get every ounce of tone your guitar is capable of producing. The low-output impedance (2k ohms) allows you to plug into a guitar amp, mixing board, even directly into a tape/digital recorder with the same fabulous results. The most amazing aspect of this technology is that the pickup is virtually invisible. The natural tone of the guitar is amplified without added overtones or coloration. What you play is what you hear: highs with a natural brilliance and a low end that's full and rich. The total result is a pickup system for acoustic guitar that sounds as alive through a combo amp or mixing bo

If you want a big rock or heavy modern guitar sound, this is the pickup for you.

Product description

Featuring two pickups in one, the EMG 89 is loaded with Alnico V magnets and has separate preamps each providing custom outputs for both dual coil and single coil modes. In dual coil mode, the sound is rich, warm and powerful, but still very clear and is similar to the 85. The single coil mode, accessed via the included push pull pot, delivers the traditional Strat single coil sound: bright, airy, and chimey, and is similar to our SA. In either mode, the clean sound is gorgeously pristine and has a lot of presence. Used equally in bridge and neck positions, whether you are playing Hard Rock or Smooth Jazz, you can get it all with this beautifully balanced and versatile pickup.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the push-pull pot thread length fit both a strat pickguard and Les Paul body
Answer: No. Pickup comes with a short shaft strat style pot. I think you can order the pickup direct from EMG with a long shaft LP style pot.
