8 best nd acoustic guitar pickups

ND acoustic guitar pickups are a type of pickup designed specifically for acoustic guitars. These pickups are essential components that capture the sound of the guitar's strings and convert it into an electrical signal that can be amplified and heard through an amplifier or PA system. Here's what you need to know about ND acoustic guitar pickups:

  1. Types of ND Acoustic Guitar Pickups: ND offers various types of acoustic guitar pickups to suit different preferences and playing styles. Common types include:

    • Soundhole Pickups: These pickups are mounted in the soundhole of the guitar and are relatively easy to install and remove. They capture the vibrations of the strings through the soundhole, making them a popular choice among acoustic guitarists.

    • Piezo Pickups: Piezoelectric pickups are often installed underneath the guitar's saddle. They work by sensing the vibrations of the saddle and transferring them into an electrical signal. Piezo pickups are known for their clear and natural sound reproduction.

    • Microphone Pickups: Some ND pickups combine a small microphone with a piezo element to capture the acoustic sound of the guitar more accurately. This setup can provide a warm and natural tone.

  2. Installation: Installing an ND acoustic guitar pickup typically involves some degree of modification to the guitar. Soundhole pickups are generally easier to install and remove without significant alterations to the instrument, making them a good choice for those who want a non-invasive option. On the other hand, piezo pickups and microphone pickups may require professional installation to ensure optimal sound quality.

  3. Sound Quality: ND acoustic guitar pickups are designed to faithfully reproduce the natural sound of the guitar. The choice of pickup type can affect the resulting sound, with piezo pickups often providing a brighter and more direct tone, while microphone pickups may capture more of the guitar's natural resonance.

  4. Preamps: Some ND acoustic guitar pickups come with integrated preamps that allow you to shape the tone and volume of your amplified sound. Preamps are useful for adjusting the EQ, adding effects, and ensuring a consistent signal level.

  5. Compatibility: ND acoustic guitar pickups are typically compatible with a wide range of acoustic guitar models. However, it's essential to choose a pickup that matches the size and style of your guitar for the best fit and sound quality.

  6. Feedback Resistance: Many ND acoustic guitar pickups are designed to minimize feedback issues when playing at high volumes. This can be particularly important for live performances.

  7. Maintenance: Like any musical equipment, ND acoustic guitar pickups require regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance. Keeping the pickup clean and free of debris and regularly checking cables and connections can help maintain the pickup's functionality.

In summary, ND acoustic guitar pickups are essential accessories for amplifying the sound of acoustic guitars. They come in various types and offer different sound characteristics, allowing guitarists to choose the pickup that best suits their playing style and preferences. Installation and maintenance are essential considerations when using these pickups to ensure consistent and high-quality sound amplification.

Question: Where can I find the manual for the barcus-berry 4000xl on a webpage that still exists
Answer: Google search. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1411261/Barcus-Berry-4000.html?page=2#manual Its the same as the one included in the box. Only 2 pages. Good luck.
Question: When running the controller box (DI?) on +48V phantom, is a 9V battery still required to be installed, or does the unit work with no battery in place
Answer: I have an mixer which sends phantom power to the controller box (via mains power) and so I don't use the battery option...
Question: In a Baby Grand piano, where is the best position for the micophone
Answer: We placed it on the piano under the strings & had the wire run along side placing box on floor it seemed to pick up sound better we have not had any issues at all with the unit
    Question: Where to install
Answer: There should have been a instruction manual with the unit. You can find the manual online at http://barcusberry.com/documents/4000.pdf. I installed the unit on an upright piano and placed it near the middle C on the sound board. All I heard was the upper register so I moved the pickup all the way to the bass end of the sound board and the results were much better.

    User questions & answers

Question: Can these be used with a Stage Mixer, instead of an Amplifier
Answer: I tried it but there was a lot of signal interference that keep breaking the sound from the guitar. The link between the pair was unstable. Could be due to other signals from cordless microphones or systems connected to the Mixer. I didn’t investigate because of time but it’s worth trying it yourself.

    Product features

    User questions & answers

Question: Can I return it if it isn’t able to be installed in my guitar? I’ve read it won’t work in some guitars
Answer: Not sure if you can return it or not, but if you check with a knowledgeable guitar tech before buying the pickup, they might be able to tell you if it would fit. Or call LR Baggs first. The main reason it wouldn't fit would be because of how the control unit needs to sit in the sound hole. On some smaller guitars, the inside top bracing may make it a bit of a tight squeeze.
Question: Hello, I wanna know if will work with nylon string? Because my guitar has nylon only ...no steel strings
Answer: Hello, the L.R. Baggs ANTHEM Acoustic Guitar Pickup is for steel strings. They do make an Anthem SL Classical specifically for nylon string guitars. Thank you for your interest.
Question: Will it fit to my taylor 314ce
Answer: Yes, we have installed the Anthem in several Taylor guitars in the Auditorium body size with no issues whatsoever. Brian Meader Sales Manager The Guitar Sanctuary
Question: Has anyone experienced a "hot" (extra loud) string namely the 6th string (low e)? anyone have this on a baritone
Answer: This pickup is definitely very bass responsive. I have it in a Martin D-18 and I have to cut the bass but I have had no issues with any strings being louder than the other. I would check my bridge and make sure it's getting good contact all the way across on the bridge pickup. If that doesn't help I would look at the mic placement it might be a frequency that is hitting the mic a certain way. I absolutely love this pickup system as far as the warm acoustic tone and have had no issues so far. Good luck with everything!

L.R. Baggs M80 Acoustic Guitar Magnetic Soundhole Pickup

    LR Baggs

Based on 68 reviews Check latest price

    Product description

The soul of your guitar is in the body from the tone woods that it's made of, to the fine details in the way it was put together. Standard magnetic pickups hear only dry strings, resulting in an "electric" sound that omits the true acoustic voice of your guitar. In contrast, the M80 hears the entire frequency range of the tone woods, thereby contributing warmth and complexity to your amplified sound. The secret of the M80 is a patented, free floating humbucking coil that acts as a 3D body sensor. As the soundboard resonates in all 3 dimensions, a proprietary suspension allows each axis of the humbucking coil to respond with the guitar's movement. A resonate body signal is produced and blended with the strings to faithfully capture your guitar like no other magnetic pickup ever created. The M80 also gives you the choice of active or passive settings with the flick of the switch. The active setting engages a preamp with built in EQ and audiophile circuitry for that "high fidelity" sound Bags is known for. Switch to the passive setting and bypass the preamp for a battery free performance. Other features of the M80 include a battery check, volume control and adjustable pole pieces for perfect balance between the strings.

    • Full-range body sensitivity
    • Active or passive operation
    • Feedback resistant
    • Multi-segment battery check
    • Adjustable pole pieces

    User questions & answers

Question: What is an appropriate DC power supply to use with this
Answer: It's powered by a watch battery. You may have to reverse polarity with your equipment(phase)
Question: Does it affect the unplugged sound at all? i have the anthem right now and it has made my om28 sound muffled
Answer: yes, the sound coming out of the speakers/amp you are using will sound different than the natural acoustic guitar. No one has invented a totally natural acoustic pick-up. I have spent $1,000s trying to get a natural amplified tone and it just ain't happening at this point... That said, I have settled on the LR Baggs M80 for use in 3 of my better acoustics for the time being.
Question: Does this pickup adjust to Seagull S6 Original? I guess guitars vary by the size of their body holes
Answer: It adjusts to fit a given hole by moving it up or down. On a standard Taylor 110 for example, the pickup is not placed at the widest part of the hole but moved up towards the neck until the width of the pickup snugly grips the sides.
Question: I don't want to alter the guitar at all. Can I use the LR Baggs M80 pickup and run a cord out of the sound hole
Answer: I'm sure you could run the cable out of the sound hole but any movement of the cable would probably produce an unwanted sound. There would be a guitar cable end plugged into the pickup wire which is not very long so the connected plug could clang against the pick guard. I was reluctant to modify my guitar but the recommended modification (plug goes into the center of the rear strap thing) is completely invisible, fairly easy to do yourself and wouldn't change the value of the guitar if you ever sold it. I recommend the modification. One other thing to consider if you haven't yet bought the pickup is the passive option. I bought the active one and changing the battery is a real nuisance. You have to loosen all the strings so you can get the pickup out, the battery can't be replaced with the pickup in place on the sound hole.

L.R. Baggs M1 Active Acoustic Guitar Magnetic Soundhole Pickup

Based on 73 reviews Check latest price

    Product description

The M1 is for players who love big acoustic tone with high feedback resistance on any stage. Combining the natural characteristics of your guitar's soundboard with a punchy string attack, the M1's body sensitive design provides enhanced realism while cutting through a loud mix. The M1 is a patented humbucking pickup with a twist. In a common stacked humbucker, the lower coil cancels hum, but doesn't contribute anything positive to the sound. We unlock the lower coil with a carefully tuned support that allows it to capture higher frequency resonances. As the pickup moves with the guitar's soundboard, a body signal is created in the suspended coil that adds presence and realism to your amplified sound.

    User questions & answers

Question: What is the difference between the SL and the regular Anthem
Answer: Hope this helps:"The SL has a "fixed" crossover for the division of signal output between the mic and the UST... set at 250 hz, although the UST is a "soft shelf" and does cover some frequencies above 250. There is a small set screw to adjust "how much" mic is mixed in to the output... it's pretty much a "set it and forget it" type of adjustment, if you are playing through the same PA system. The regular Anthem version has an adjustable crossover point, allowing for the UST to cover EVERYTHING and taking the mic out of the mix entirely; this would be for those times (like with a full band at loud volumes) when the UST alone would be desired. The full Anthem also has a battery life indicator, as well as adjustments for mic/UST mix and volume."
Question: I keep going back and forth between the Anthem Standard and Anthem SL. Can anyone speak to this? I am aware of the differences between the two
Answer: I like the Anthem SL for lower mass attached to the soundboard. I find no need to alter the mix during performance, so I do not miss the mix control wheel.
Question: I own a michael kelly club custom acoustic bass guitar, and i hate the onboard fishman system. can the anthem service the lower range
Answer: The LR Baggs pickups are sturdy and can handle a lot, I am not sure about the Bass This is a microphone pickup and maybe,; buford
Question: Has anyone experienced a loss in volume or sustain (or any tonal loss) after installing the Anthem
Answer: I haven't noticed any change in volume or tone. I was very careful to make sure the saddle was dead flat and square and sat well in slot.
Question: How can I get a users manual for this thing
Answer: Mine came with a small, very uninformative one that required a magnifying glass to read. Other than that, I have no idea.
