Trombone Practice and Accessories:
Warm-Up: Trombone players typically start their practice sessions with warm-up exercises. This helps to loosen the muscles, improve tone, and increase flexibility.Warm-ups often involve long tones, lip slurs, and simple melodies.
Scales and Arpeggios: Practicing scales and arpeggios is essential for building technique on the trombone. This helps players become more familiar with the instrument's range and improve their intonation.
Etudes and Studies: Trombonists often work on etudes and studies that are specifically designed to target various technical aspects of playing, such as articulation, dynamics, and phrasing. Well-known collections of etudes include those by Rochut, Bordogni, and Blazhevich.
Repertoire: Trombone players practice pieces from various musical genres, including classical, jazz, and contemporary music. Working on repertoire helps develop musical interpretation and expression.
Breathing Exercises: Proper breathing is crucial for brass players. Trombonists practice breathing exercises to improve breath control and support. This contributes to better tone quality and endurance.
Mutes: Mutes are essential accessories for trombonists. They alter the instrument's sound by partially blocking the bell. Common types of mutes include straight mutes, cup mutes, and plunger mutes. Each mute produces a unique timbre, allowing trombonists to create different effects in their playing.
Brass Accessories: Trombone players use various brass accessories to maintain their instrument and enhance their playing experience. This includes valve oil for trigger-equipped trombones, slide cream or oil for smooth slide movement, and cleaning kits to keep the instrument in good condition.
Instrument Accessories: In addition to maintenance items, trombonists often use accessories like music stands, metronomes, and tuners during practice. These tools help maintain accurate tempo, pitch, and organization while practicing.
Mouthpiece Selection: Choosing the right mouthpiece is crucial for a trombone player. Different mouthpieces can significantly affect tone quality and playability. Players often experiment with different mouthpiece sizes and shapes to find the one that suits their playing style and preferences.
Listening and Recording: Trombonists also benefit from listening to professional performances and recording themselves during practice. This helps them evaluate their progress, refine their interpretations, and identify areas for improvement.
Ensemble Playing: Many trombonists participate in various musical ensembles, such as orchestras, wind bands, brass quintets, and jazz bands. Ensemble practice is essential for developing ensemble skills, intonation, and teamwork.
In summary, trombone practice involves a combination of technical exercises, repertoire study, and the use of various accessories like mutes, mouthpieces, and maintenance tools. Regular practice and dedication are key to improving skills and becoming a proficient trombonist.

Question: | What is the difference between this (sb5x2) and the sb5xc model? (not the sb5x, which mrsilvertrumpet explains already, but the model with the "c |
Answer: | Yamaha never came out with a SB5XC. Prior to the SB5X series was the SB59 and then later the SB59C. The "C" stood for an extra 1/8" male to 1/8" male cable that Yamaha provided so that you could hook up your CD or MP3 player to the ST9 Module. When the SB5X model come out the still included this extra cable. So the SB5X has the extra cable the and the SB5X-2 does not. Again, Yamaha never listed the new SB5X with a C. Product description
Needing to practice at odd times and in odd places over the years (and the absence of a suitable musical mute) was the reason Trevor Bremner designed the sshhmute. In development over several years in his New Plymouth workshop, the sshhmute is at long last in full commercial production and has been successfully launched to answer a market need for an effective mute for brass instruments in a price range to suit budding musicians and professionals alike. The sshhmute is made from lightweight, yet hard-wearing, ABS plastic with no parts to break or fall off. Perhaps one of the primary benefits of the sshhMute design when compared with other silent mutes, is the very small amount of back-pressure it creates. This allows for better air supply, while still opening and developing the throat muscles. Our mute also remains in tune and faithfully accurate throughout the entire range.
- Allows a player to practice almost anywhere
- Small amount of back pressure compared to other practice (silent) mutes
- Remains in tune and faithfully accurate throughout the entire range
- Made from lightweight, yet hard-wearing, ABS plastic
- Perfect for warm-ups before going on stage

Question: | Is this the mk i or the mk ii model |

Question: | Could this be used with a Yamaha tenor trombone |

Answer: | Yes, it will do that. I have mine on a Wemo switch, connected with my alarm. When I turn the alarm off, the water begins heating in the kitchen and is usually finished just as I get there. I also tied the switch into Google Home and can say "... make me some tea" to get it going. Because I am a dork. It works so long as the pot is full, switched on and the Wemo switched off. When I forget... it's a sad day. |

Answer: | China. This appears to be a bait and switch- all advertising, including on Mueller website implies European made. Sure, they don’t specifically claim it is made in Austria, just that there is no way to know prior to buying this. Of course if you want Chinese made there are tons of options out there. Why limit yourself to this one? |

Question: | Does this mute stick out far out of the bell? I'm wondering if it'll fit in my case in the bell |
Answer: | The positions don't match full size because the mini is an alto. It's in the key of Eb. Probably not a good idea if the 7 year old is trying to learn along with other tenor trombones. But idk if a 7 year old can reach all the positions on a full size. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is delivery fast |
Answer: | We ship within 1 business day. If you are a Prime member, 2 day shipping is free. |
Question: | can you plug it into a amp because the images do not show a jack |
Answer: | Yes. There are 3 sockets on the back of violin. One is "Line out" (for amp). One is "Mic" and one is "Phones". The Included cord for the amp is a little over 9 feet and is decent quality. There is no static backround noise and my violin comes in clear. *In the stock photo the amp cable is to the right of the headphones. |
Question: | How can I plug it to my laptop? There is a chord but it doesn't fit the computer outlet |
Answer: | It has a quarter inch plug, look for either an A to D connector, or (more easily a rocksmith cable) a USB interface. Electric instruments are almost all the same you'll never have the same sound as an acoustic. But it will give you a unique and interesting sound. Especially at this price point. |
Question: | how quiet is it? I would be practicing during my toddlers nap time and need it to be very very quiet/silent with out an amp or head phones |
Answer: | I get about 81 dB playing open strings. It’s not so quiet. |
Question: | Does the kit come with strings attached or must you string them yourself |
Answer: | The strings come attached. In fact, as soon as my violin came in, I took it to my local music store (who strung my acoustic violin) to have him check it out to see if the violin and strings are of good quality. He thought is was decent quality. I couldn't be happier with it, especially for the price. When you first get it, you will have to re-tune the strings every 10 minutes or so while you are playing, but after about a week of re-tuning (and it does need tuning less frequently with time) you are good to go. It doesn't hold a tune as well as my acoustic...I tune it before I begin playing usually, but it does hold well and the sound is fantastic. You can play it through an amp or into headphones and I think the sound quality is awesome. Hope this helps. :) |

Cecilio Electric Violin
Whether you're practicing, recording in studio or performing on stage, the Cecilio electric violin outfit offers excellent functionality and style. It provides violinists of all levels with the ability to practice confidently without disturbing others. The outfit features a 1/8 output jack that allows you to connect to most guitar amps or PA systems (1/4 to 1/8 cable included), volume control that allow you to choose the ambience you want, headphone jack for practice and a line-in jack for practice with a background track. This violin package includes a well-padded lightweight hard case, a bow, rosin, bridge, pickup, aux cable, and headphones. Great for Student, Intermediate and Professional Violinist.
How to choose violin sizes
Violins are available in 8 different sizes: 4/4 (also called full size), 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16 and 1/32. Size 4/4 is the biggest and size 1/32 is the smallest. All adults, regardless of their size, use the size 4/4 violin.
To measure what size violin best suits you, you need to know the length between your neck and the middle of your left-hand palm (when your hand is fully extended and raised perpendicular to your body, just like holding a violin). Most of the teachers prefer students to use the length from the neck to the wrist for measurement instead of the neck to mid-palm approach. The violin size determined by the neck/wrist approach would be the size that is more comfortable for students to hold. The violin size determined by the neck/mid-palm approach would be the biggest size students should use. The following table lists the length of each violin size. Find your length using your preferred approach and use that to determine the size of violin to get.
If you have a teacher, you should ask for your teacher's recommendation. If you don't have a teacher, we would recommend using the neck/wrist approach for students not using full size; for students who are deciding whether to used size 3/4 or size 4/4, use the neck/mid-palm approach. This is because it is always better those students feeling comfortable holding and playing the violin. However, while deciding between size 3/4 and size 4/4, if neck/mid-palm approach allows for size 4/4, then buying a size 4/4 is more economical since you don't have to buy another bigger size violin later. This is completely based on economical consideration. You should still decide what best suits your need.
