Product description
Symphonic and jazz trumpet players have always experimented with ways to create a darker sound by using various mouthpiece add-ons to add weight and mass. The Bach Mega Tone Mouthpiece takes these experiments one step further. To create the Mega Tone, Selmer starts with genuine Vincent Bach mouthpiece designs and more than doubles the outside mass. This darkens the sound and allows you to play at higher dynamic levels without distortion. Mega Tone slots extremely well so pitches center dependably, and a slightly larger throat affords less resistance and greater flexibility. The result is a warmer, more powerful sound that adds a new dimension to concert, pop and jazz playing.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a difference between this megatone and other brands |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Would this mouthpiece be good for intermediate trumpet players |
Answer: | The Bach 3C is the number one step-up mouthpiece for trumpet players. The Megatone version adds more mass and a slightly darker tone. It also has a slightly bigger throat than the standard Bach 3C, making it have less resistance. |
Question: | Does a mega tone mouthpiece help hit higher notes or just to make a smoother sound |
Answer: | I tend to notice that mega tones make the tone a bit smoother but for range the higher the C the easier it is to hit high range but the worse your overall tone is. 5c or 7c are generally better if you need the high notes but haven't built the muscles necessary to hit them |
Question: | Does the mouth piece fit all trumpets or do I have to find a specific size for my trumpet |
Answer: | It is for any standard trumpet. The 3C is the size and shape of the rim/cup |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come in a box |
Answer: | I received mine in a box |
Question: | Will these bottom out in a 1970's model 37 Bach stradivarius trumpet |
Answer: | If you have had issues with mouthpieces not seating, it sounds like your receiver is worn. Bach has not changed their specs on the Strads. The Artisans have the same shank as all the other Bach pieces. Being you have a 45 year old + horn it sounds like it is time to replace the receiver. It oly takes a couple thousandths of an inch wear to have this issue. The Bach receiver is available here on Amazon as well as our website. Any decent shop can do the switch. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is their a deference in tone quality from the gold to the silver model |
Answer: | Yes. My son will not use anything beside a Bach. There is quality of sound that is mich better |
Question: | The image says 7C, but the title says 3C. Which one is it |
Answer: | I am not sure I fully understand the question. I have a 3C and a 7C mouthpiece and they are both stamped as such. |
Question: | Does this mouthpiece work with non- Bach trumpets |
Answer: | Yes, unless there is a trumpet brand out there that doesn't have the standard mouthpiece bore. Based on my experience with several different brands of trumpets, all have the same bore for the mouthpiece. Cornets, however have a different bore, so you can't use a trumpet mouthpiece with a cornet and viceversa. This is my experience with about 4 different trumpet and cornet brands. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this mouthpiece any different from a king 6 1/2 al #1656hala? (i'm trying to replace a vintage king 11m and the conn rep suggested the 1656hala |
Answer: | 6 1/2 is the rim diameter. A 6.5 size mouthpiece has a rim diameter of one inch. The AL does not mean aluminum, it means the mouthpiece has a larger throat and backbore. These mouthpieces are made of brass and then silver plated. Pretty much all 6.5s have the same rim diameter, no matter the manufacturer. The "shaft" going into the trombone is either small shank (bore sizes of .480 to .525) or large shank (bore sizes of .547 to .562). This mouthpiece is comparable to a King 6.5AL |
Question: | Does this contain nickel |
Answer: | Bach mouthpieces are made from machined brass and then finished in either silver or gold electroplated. Bach does not make nickel mouthpieces, |
Question: | Does this mouthpiece come with a lead warning |
Answer: | Not that I remember been using this type since 1960s , it has a silver plate and the mfr website instructs customers that if you ever wear off the silverplate you should replace the mouthpiece. If the metal contact potential is a problem for you there are plastic mouthpieces available but teachers and band leaders prefer the metal because of the tone qualities . Bach makes plastic rimmed mouthpieces and gold plated ones. For those people who have metal sensitivities. |
Question: | Does this mouthpiece come with a Lead warning |
Answer: | Yes, Bach along with all major manufacturers include the lead warning because the brass the item is made from might contain trace amounts of lead. The mouthpiece is silver plated which acts as a barrier and would not allow any contamination to the player. The warning is there because of a technicality not because there is any risk to the player. Any item made from brass has this potential issue, this includes keys, door knobs or anything made from brass. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work for euphonium |
Answer: | It depends on the Euphonium, if yours uses a Large Shank, then yes it works well. If yours uses a small shank, Bach also makes the 5G in small shank. If you are unsure, send us a message with your horn make/model and we will try to help. |
Question: | Does this fit a large bore trombone, i have a conn 88ho |
Answer: | This mouthpiece will fit a Conn 88HO. |
Question: | Is this nickel free |
Answer: | It is a brass mouthpiece with a silver plated finish. Bach does not disclose the exact makeup of their brass. If you have allergies, I would strongly recommend gold plating the mouthpiece or at least the rim and cup where the lips contact. |
Question: | Will this work on a large bore tenor? Bach 42BO to be exact |
Answer: | The Bach 42 models I am certain take the large shank. The mouthpiece opening in the instrument would be .547". The opening on smaller bore trombones is .476" taking small shank mouthpieces. The V Bach 5G is a great choice I have one for a Conn 88. Hope this helps. -jm |
