14 best compact mixer

A compact mixer, in the context of music and audio equipment, refers to a smaller and more portable version of a traditional audio mixer or mixing console. These mixers are designed for various applications, including DJing, electronic music production, karaoke, and live sound reinforcement. Here's what you need to know about compact mixers:

  1. Size and Portability: Compact mixers are smaller and more lightweight compared to full-sized mixing consoles. They are designed for easy transport and setup, making them ideal for mobile DJs, small gigs, and home studios.

  2. Channels: Compact mixers come in various channel configurations, typically ranging from 2 to 16 channels. Each channel allows you to connect and control audio sources like microphones, instruments, or playback devices.

  3. Inputs: These mixers feature a variety of input options, including XLR inputs for microphones, 1/4-inch jacks for instruments, RCA inputs for line-level sources, and USB connections for digital audio playback.

  4. Controls: Compact mixers include volume faders, EQ (equalization) controls, pan knobs, and other features for adjusting the audio signal on each channel. Some models also offer built-in effects processors for adding reverb, delay, or other effects to the mix.

  5. Master Section: The master section of a compact mixer includes controls for the overall mix, including master volume, headphone outputs, and often a graphic EQ for fine-tuning the overall sound.

  6. Outputs: These mixers provide various output options, such as main mix outputs, auxiliary sends, and monitor outputs. They also may have USB or digital audio outputs for recording or connecting to computers.

  7. Built-in Amplification: Some compact mixers include built-in power amplifiers, allowing them to drive passive speakers directly. These are known as powered or powered mixers.

  8. Effects and Processing: Some compact mixers come with onboard effects processors, allowing you to apply effects to individual channels or the overall mix. This can be particularly useful for live performances and DJing.

  9. Build Quality: Compact mixers are often built to be rugged and durable, with metal chassis and robust controls to withstand the rigors of on-the-go use.

  10. Price Range: The price of compact mixers can vary widely depending on the brand, features, and channel count.Entry-level models are relatively affordable, while more advanced models with additional features may cost more.

  11. Application: Compact mixers are versatile and can be used for a wide range of applications, from DJing and electronic music production to live sound mixing, podcasting, and home studio recording.

In summary, compact mixers are a convenient and portable solution for audio mixing in various settings. They offer flexibility and control over multiple audio sources and are designed to be easy to transport and set up. When choosing a compact mixer, consider the number of channels you need, the types of inputs you'll be using, and any additional features that suit your specific audio mixing requirements.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i connect mg06x-6 to tv
Answer: here's one: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Hosa/Stereo-1-4-Inch-Male-TRS-to-Dual-Male-RCA-Insert-Cable.gc
Question: Can i connect its out to irig pre (phone-audio interface) which ultimately connected to phones for recording over iphone/ipads
Answer: This mixer with its quality mic preamps (real ones, with plenty of adjustable gain) , EQ, channel output volume, etc. is far superior to the iRig Pre. I tried the iRig Pre (and reviewed it) and didn't like it. To emulate the iRig Pre connections, get a TRRS (male) adapter you plug into your phone/tablet that breaks out separate speaker 1/8" TRS (female) and mic 1/8" TRS (female) connectors. You could use either the XLR or the 1/4" outputs of the mixer as input to the mic 1 /8" TRS connector on the adapter. Unlike the iRig Pre, with a mixer like this you have the option of listening to the realtime output of the mixer from its headphone jack or plug your headphones into the speaker 1/8" (female) connector on the adapter to hear it how the phone/ tablet is recording it (which can be time-delayed making it difficult to speak live while listening to non-realtime audio).
Question: Are the 1/4 inch outputs TRS for balanced signal to another TRS input? I'm planning on using this as a simple mixer for input to a Bose L1 Compact
Answer: The outputs are Stereo outputs, both L and R. (shown on the blue areas of image)
Question: Can headphones and stereo out be be controlled independently? I want to listen to either headphones OR speakers, not both at once
Answer: On the MG10XU there are two volumes controls. Stereo out and Monitor/Headphones out. I can't tell if this has both knobs or not. You can check the manual for the technical diagram.

Yamaha MG Series Mixers

For more than a century, Yamaha has been building a legacy of superior craftsmanship and innovation exemplified in all of our products, from an unrivaled catalog of world-class musical instruments to touring-grade professional audio. Now in its third incarnation, the MG Series embodies this pursuit of design excellence, and incorporates some of the same technologies developed for use in high-end professional consoles, including studio-quality preamps, powerful digital processing, and a rugged, reliable construction.

With an intuitive, easy-to-use interface, the MG Series boasts an extensive lineup of compact mixing consoles with models ranging from six to twenty channels, suitable for a diverse range of users and applications. For installed, recording, or live music settings, the solid construction and flexible design of these consoles lets you shape your sound with confidence, continually delivering a level of sound quality and reliability unrivaled in its class.

D-PRE (Discrete Class-A Mic Preamps)

This is where it all starts. Everything you do as a sound engineer is dependent on the quality of your preamps, which determines the direction your mix will take, and ultimately how good it is going to sound. MG Series mixing consoles feature Yamaha's studio-grade discrete class-A D-PRE preamps, which utilize an inverted Darlington circuit comprising two cascading transistors in a configuration that provides more power with lower impedance.

EQ and High-pass Filters

There's nothing more useful than reliable equalization when you need nuanced management of your tone. The MG Series benefits from Yamaha's unparalleled experience in designing pro audio gear, featuring 3-band equalizers on all mono channels for precise control of your sound. High-pass filter allows you to eliminate unwanted low-frequency noise, for a smoother, cleaner mix.

1-Knob Compressors

Compression plays an essential role in just about any recording or sound reinforcement environment by altering the level of dynamics of an audio signal when you need livelier guitars, punchier bass lines, a tighter snare, or a cleaner vocal sound. However, it can take countless hours to master the complexities of even the most basic outboard compression units and use them effectively.

Built-in SPX Digital Effects (MG06X)

For musical and non-musical applications, effects processing adds polish and professionalism to the mix. The MG06X features Yamaha's SPX digital multi-effect processor, offering a comprehensive suite of editable digital effects perfect for enhancing your mix, whether adding depth to a speaking engagement or breathing new color and atmosphere into a live performance.

High Quality Sound Op-amp

The head amp determines sound quality, and op-amp integrated circuits are one of the most important parts in the head amp circuit. MG Series mixers feature new, high-quality, custommade MG01 op-amps that we developed in cooperation with the semiconductor manufacturer. We worked directly with the semiconductor manufacturer to focus on sound quality first.

User questions & answers

Question: How do I hook this up to my laptop? There was no USB connection in the box. Does this need to be purchased separately
Answer: If you look at Page 7 of the manual, you can feed your computer sound card inputs using the ALT 3/4 Outputs. While it is not a USB connection, it does allow audio to be captured on the computer depending on what program you are using.
Question: What function do the channel insert ports on the back serve? Am I able to use those to send each individual channel out to an audio interface
Answer: Each channel has an effect send/insert. Yes, you can send individual channels for processing, then send back to the mix. For example, you may want a compressor on channel 1, a phaser on channel 2, etc. There is also a pair of Aux Sends that will work with the entire mix. Hope this helps.
Question: Can you route the audio inputs into separate audio outputs with this
Answer: Yeah you can, with limitations. The mute buttons route the channel to a second output. So basically you can have two buss groups. You can also play a trick with the Aux send, using it as another buss. You can't have each individual channel on it's own output, however.
Question: how connect to computer for broadcast
Answer: I connect mine to my mac using a Griffin Technology iMic - The original USB Stereo Input and Output Audio Adapter. The "In" for the adaptor goes into the Main Out on the mixer and the Out of the adaptor goes into the Tape In on the mixer. Hope that helps you

User questions & answers

Question: Can i use this mixer connect to speaker , subwoofer and dj controller together
Answer: I’m assuming you would go with your DJ controller into this unit, then you could send the out to the sub and PA speaker. You might also be able to run a separate aux out to the sub and just give it more when you need to. Personally I would get a mackie 802 before I buy this.
Question: can i hook this to my crown power amp
Answer: Yes, I hook mine up to 2 crown Amps. I run them bridged made use one for the left channel and one for the right channel.
Question: Can this be used for live performance with output to PA and monitor ( one vocal and acoustic guitar
Answer: Yes you can. You have stereo monitor outs (called Control Room) as well as main outs, and they have independent controls. The control room outs share the same level as the HEADPHONES out, though. You do have an extra AUX out that can serve as a different send to a monitor, but it is mono.
Question: Is there a USB output
Answer: No USB Output on this mixer. Thank you, Sam Ash Direct

User questions & answers

Question: the book says not to use for more than one minute is that true
Answer: Typically you need a standing mixer for thick doughs. I use the Kitchen Aid standing mixer. It is a monster and can handle anything. I use this hand mixer for fast and easy recipes. I bought this hand mixer because my daughter needed one so I got 2. One for me as well. The reason I bought me one too is because I have a Hamilton Beach hand mixer that I have had for at least 20 years now and is still works perfect but I liked the beater storage on this one and needed new beaters. Me and my 4 yr old granddaughter made Christmas cookies and pies. It worked perfect for us.
Question: are these beaters stainless steel
Answer: I just got mine yesterday (4 May, 2017). It came with regular beaters and a single whisk attachment, plus the detachable storage case. Other attachments are available seperately, which I am looking for now because this thing is AWESOME.
Question: Any way to add a dough hook
Answer: Two regular beaters and one whisk. It is great for everything but really thick cookie batter. You don't have to remember where you put the beaters or anything.
Question: Where is the built in beater storage, Also how long is the cord and where does it come out the mixer
Answer: Metal. Specific composition unknown. Wife is happy, hence so am I.

Behringer Xenyx 502 Premium 5-Input 2-Bus Mixer with XENYX Mic Preamp and British EQ

Behringer

Product description

BEHRINGER 5 IN MIXING BOARD W EQ. Mains voltage - 120 V~, 60 Hz

  • Premium ultra-low noise, high headroom analog mixer
  • State-of-the-art, phantom powered XENYX Mic Preamp comparable to stand-alone boutique preamps
  • Neo-classic "British" 2-band EQ for warm and musical sound
  • Main mix, stereo CD/tape plus separate headphone outputs
  • CD/tape inputs assignable to headphone output or main mix outputs. Power consumption 13 W

User questions & answers

Question: I didn't really understand the inputs on this mixer. So I have 3 electric guitars, and an electronic drum kit. Can all of these, with mic,be connected
Answer: This mixer does not have sufficient mono channels for your application. Channels 2-3 and 4-5 are stereo inputs (meaning they are contolled with the same fader). Some of the larger Xenyx mixers will get you the inputs you need.... something with at least 5 distinct faders to control each instrument's mix individually.Hope this helps. :-)
Question: Does this mixer support 48V Phantom Power
Answer: Most microphones do not require 48 volts of phantom power. Many condenser microphones only require somewhere between 4 and 12 volts. You should check your mic. It looks like this is a 15 volt feed.
Question: Can this mixer connect to a PC via a soundcard
Answer: Yes, to an analog soundcard. All you need is a 1/8" stereo to dual-RCA cord. Mixer has both input and output RCA capability, so you could feed the output of the mixer to the line/mic of the soundcard or feed the output of the soundcard (line out/speaker out) to the input of the mixer. There is also a headphone jack on the mixer so that could also be patched back to the soundcard's line in/mic. For me, I am usually running the PC speaker out to the mixer RCA input -- the volume is controlled by the Main, and then I can either use headphones from the mixer or run the 1/4" output into my guitar amp. Hope this helps.
Question: What does the 2 track input do
Answer: The 2 track input allows you to connect an external music source to the xenxyx mixer and then into an amplifier with speakers or headphones using the outputs located near the top. The external music source can be anything that has the red and white RCA outputs such as a cassette/CD player or VCR/disc player (the red and white input/output for the 2 track are called RCA connectors). This is so you can plug in your CD player and also a microphone and an instrument that has a 1/4" output such as a guitar or electric piano and have it all mixed together. Just below the 2 track input are a couple of buttons that allow you to choose whichever output you want, either headphones or amplified speakers (main out). The 2 track outputs on the mixer will allow you to send the vocals and/or instrument mix to a recording device that has the red and white RCA inputs. I hope this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i use the usb out to connect to my computer while still using channels 5/6 as an input
Answer: No, it’s one or the other. There is a two position switch to choose.
Question: Do I also need a separate headphone amp for a podcast or will this work
Answer: No. You can plug in your headphone directly in the unit. It requires a 1/4 jack. If you are broadcasting live, you need to plug your headphone directly to the source you are broadcasting to, ie: computer mixer audio board output, otherwise you will get feedback, in this case, plugging to the Pyle unit won't help you. The Pyle unit's headphone jack will only let you hear the sound being mixed in the unit.
Question: Is this a powered mixer
Answer: Its just a mixer. It has no Amp. It is suppose to be connected to an Amplifier. So the Question. if you mean by power, watts or loudness, is not applicable.
Question: What is the power output, of this unit. I am looking to use it, with (2) 10" speakers, mike, and (2) inputs. Speakers are passive (non powered
Answer: This unit is Just a mixer ONLY. It has to be used with either a power amp or powered speakers. I have a 1000 watt amp that powers two 450 watt speakers. I entertain at Senior Facilities and use it over 200 times a year.

  • line/ headphone output level

User questions & answers

Question: Hey guys does this come with an a/c adapter? That one dude in the reviews said his did not
Answer: Mine certainly did come with AC adapter. It can not function without. It’s a great device. I wish it had an on/off switch. I unplug the power cord from the rear of the unit as the AC adapter is plugged into a Monster voltage protector with the other audio gear so to me it’s just easier this way.
Question: Can it be used to have two audio devices connected to one set of speakers? If so, will they be able to play at the same time
Answer: Yes. That is exactly why I purchased this device. It mixes four sources to one output. If you just have passive speakers, you will need amplifier, but probably your "set of speakers" does include amplifier.
Question: Are others having problems with hum or ground noise on channel 1 when using condenser microphones with phantom power
Answer: I Just Bought this device and powered it up adn the Hum/Ground noise Happens even without the condenser microphone switch off or ON, with or WITHOUT the microphone plugged in.
Question: Description: "It has 2 1/4" inputs and 3 sets of stereo RCA inputs that are mixed to MONO." Are the L and R inputs really mixed together
Answer: apparently Amazon confused the description. There is a Rolls MX51 and a Rolls MX51s. The non-s has 1/4" inputs and mixes to mono. The "s" model had 1/8" input and XLR input and mixes stereo.

Allen & Heath ZED60-14FX Compact Live and Studio Mixer with Digital FX and USB Port

Allen & Heath

Based on 18 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Live or in the studio, ZED60-14FX from Allen & Heath is a compact, portable mixer that is ideal for small bands. This mixer is a guitarist's dream. Two of the 8 mono channels have high impedance jack inputs that can take a normal line level or a low level input from a guitar pickup, so guitars can be plugged straight into the mixer without the need for DI boxes. These inputs have been crafted to recreate the sound of a classic tube preamp in a combo or head amp for incredible definition and warmth. Two stereo inputs are provided for MP3/CD players or keyboards. ZED60-14FX comes with configurable USB audio in/out, making it easy to capture a stereo recording at the gig or in the studio. The mixer is equipped with professional XLR main stereo outputs, a flexible monitoring section with headphone and speaker feed outputs, and 16 stunning FX.
Most important of all, ZED60-14FX lives up to the audio and build quality standards that have made Allen & Heath one of the most trusted names in professional audio for more than 40 years. The ZED60-14FX comes with a full duplex USB soundcard built-in, many useful routing options and a separate stereo return channel. An extremely high input impedance ensures loading on pickups is minimal and a Class A FET circuit powered from 48V is employed to give the value-like gain stage. ZED60-14FX features a responsive 3-band, swept mid frequency design which utilizes MusiQ with optimized slope for equalizing individual instruments. An essential selection of 16 time-delay effects has been designed with small groups in mind who don't want to carry around an effects unit with their gear but who still want great quality FX at their gigs and recordings. Allen & Heath continues to use separate vertical PCB construction on the ZED, borrowed from our large pro-audio mixers. Even with the smallest SED, every one of its controls is solidly PCB mounted, and every potentiometer is nutted to the front panel.

  • 8 mic/line inputs, 2 with Class A FET high impedance
  • 60mm professional quality faders and responsive 3-band, swept mid EQ with MusiQ
  • Configurable USB stereo audio in/out
  • 1 pre-fade Aux send and 1 FX send
  • 16 Internal Effects

User questions & answers

Question: How do i eq from rca inputs? rca inputs/outputs doesn't have eq settings like the other channels have
Answer: ALTO support here! The RCA aux inputs don't have the option of EQing. If you prefer EQing the audio, I would recommend using a cable that has 2 1/4" connections so you can plug your audio source to channel 5/6. This will allow you to play your stereo signal through a channel on the mixer with EQ options. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call or email us using the contact information on altoproaudio.com/contact.
Question: How to remove aux/Channel 2/3 or 4/5 audio input from main mix out but leave mic 'phone monitoring and output enabled
Answer: I have a different Model of Mixer but I'll try although I'm not clear about the meaning of your question. The Mic Channel (1) and Line Input Channels (2/3 and 4/5) are always assigned to the Main Output and the Headphones. The AUX Inputs (L and R Phonos) can be sent to the Headphones and The Main Mix with the switches above the Headphone Volume Control. Since I don't know what result you're trying to achieve, this may not be the reply you want, sorry.
Question: can i connect passive speakers to this mixer? would it work as speaker amp
Answer: The ZMX52 5-channel will not work as a speaker amp. Nor can you connect passive speakers to this mixer .
Question: I have separate dj & karaoke setups & need a sound mixer (fx) exclusively for my karaoke player & mic's to powered speakers. is this a best option
Answer: I have used this mixer for that exact application & it works great. I suggest taking the music into a pair of the channels that could be used for mics. I prefer this because you get the three levels of EQ when you do that. These controls work very well.

Question: If i'm doing a podast, can i record plug my phone into any of these ports and record a call? alongside two xlr mics
Answer: Hi Matt,Alesis support here! You can connect your phone from the headphone jack to any of the line-level inputs, and it will record alongside two XLR mics. If you have any other questions for me, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected].
Question: What is the difference between the main out, and monitor out? Can I control two sets of speakers, and a headphone volume independently with this mixe
Answer: Think of it like a concert, Main Out is the speakers the crowd would hear. Monitor Out is the speakers turned backwards that the musicians hear. Headphone Out is what the producer behind the mixer listens to. And yes, you can control the volume on all three of those outputs independently from each other.
Question: I'm looking to do live mutitrack recording. does the usb interface send more then one stereo master track
Answer: Evening... I downsized from the Multimix 4 to a two-channel mixer, basically used for my audio book recordings. If memory serves me correctly, this does offer 2 track in/out via the bus (stereo, of course). Sorry I couldn't be of more help...have you checked out the specs at places such as B&H, Sweetwater, zZounds and so on?

User questions & answers

Question: Can I use this to connect a bands instruments, bass, guitar, and vocals to the computer and record them all live at the same time
Answer: Yes. Up to 4 instruments can be mixed into a stereo output that can go to stereo headphone and EITHER 2 speakers, a PC via a USB2 cable or to another device via Bluetooth wirelessly. There is a digital selector in top center. The USB2 can apparently also be used as input as there are playback control buttons as well. Have not tested. Note that the 2 odd looking inputs in the upper left corner are intended for mics and can take either XLR 1/4" phone plug connectors.
Question: Can this plug directly into an iPhone using a usb to lightning adapter to record using the iPhone
Answer: Hi, unfortunately no. You have to connect the mixer to a laptop or computer. Please check the video link below. Thank you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHc2s9Wg9ns
Question: is it plug and play
Answer: Yes just plug and play. I used it twice on streaming. It's very good machine.
Question: Does this mixer has a built in sound card or will I have to use an external one if I want to records with condenser mic
Answer: The instructions say that it includes a built in sound card; however, no matter what I do, I cannot get any microphone to cooperate with this mixer to record on a PC. While I plug and unplug the cable, feedback will record, but no voice will travel from the mic through the mixer and into the PC.
