13 best cymbal cleaner
Cymbal cleaner is a specialized cleaning product used by drummers and percussionists to clean and maintain their cymbals. Cymbals are an essential component of drum kits and other percussion setups, and they can become dirty and tarnished over time due to regular use and exposure to the elements. Cymbal cleaner is designed to help musicians keep their cymbals looking and sounding their best.
Here are some key points about cymbal cleaner:
Purpose: The primary purpose of cymbal cleaner is to remove dirt, grime, fingerprints, and oxidation from the surface of cymbals. This not only enhances their appearance but also improves their sound quality.
Types of Cleaners: There are various types of cymbal cleaners available on the market, including sprays, pastes, and wipes. Some cleaners are designed for general cleaning, while others are formulated to address specific issues like tarnish or discoloration.
Ingredients: Cymbal cleaners often contain mild abrasives and chemicals that are effective in removing stains and tarnish without damaging the cymbal's metal. It's important to choose a cleaner that is suitable for the type of cymbal you have, as different metals (e.g., bronze, brass, or nickel-silver) may require different cleaning approaches.
Application: To clean cymbals, you typically apply the cleaner to the surface and then gently rub it in using a soft cloth or sponge. It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions to avoid any potential damage.
Protection: Some cymbal cleaners also include protective coatings that can help prevent future tarnishing and keep the cymbals looking cleaner for longer periods.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance of cymbals, including cleaning, can extend their lifespan and ensure they produce the best possible sound. Drummers often clean their cymbals after each use to prevent the buildup of dirt and sweat.
Safety: It's essential to use cymbal cleaner in a well-ventilated area and to avoid contact with eyes and skin. Some cleaners may contain chemicals that can be harmful if not used properly.
In conclusion, cymbal cleaner is a specialized product used to clean and maintain cymbals in the world of drums and percussion. Properly cleaning and caring for cymbals can help drummers achieve the best sound quality and keep their instruments in excellent condition.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used on non-brilliant finished cymbals |
Answer: | A ride cymbal is usually heavier, thicker and larger than crash cymbals. Because of this, it enables you play on (ride) the surface of the cymbal very comfortable...especially in Jazz/swing music. The crash cymbal is the opposite in description and purpose. The crash cymbals smaller, lighter and thinner size allows it to perform as a one hit (every so often while playing) to produce a "CRASH sound." The CRASH/RIDE cymbal is a Hybrid of the two cymbals; Its bigger ,heavier and thicker than a crash ...but smaller, lighter and thinner that a ride ...resulting in "the best of both worlds." However, a crash/ride cymbal is usually used by beginner's and not professionals. Crash Ride cymbals are usually 18" in diameter. |
Question: | Will this remove logos on cymbals |
Answer: | Yes it does. It includes the following: 14" Pr. Hihats, 16" Thin Crash, 18" Thin Crash, 20" Ride |
Question: | Would this restore the goldish look. I used used the wrong cleaner and lost the gold look |
Answer: | Cymbal manufacturers often count a pair of hihats as 2 cymbals. This set includes: 14" Pr. Hihats, 16" Thin Crash, 18" Thin Crash, 20" Ride |

User questions & answers
Question: | Anyone use this on a guitar? Figure why not get two towels for the price of one |
Answer: | No, Candy.... if you wanted to remove logos you would use Goof Off or Acetone, but all the cymbals I’ve cleaned with Zips doesn’t affect the logos.... Mark |
Question: | Are they washable |
Answer: | I am not sure on the ingredients, however, I will say, do not purchase this item. I tried to find a cheaper alternative than the normal Zildjian that I got and it ruined my K Custom ride. I would recommend to stick with the Zildjian brand as that seems to work best. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the thread pitch of this wing nut. I'm looking for a 1/4"x20 tpi quick release wing nut |
Answer: | Hello, The TPI does not matter, the diameter of the cymbal stand stud in the threaded area is the main factor.I have 2 sizes of stands, Diameters = .310 and .250 at the threaded area. The Tama Quick sets work well for either. I have had the Quicks for over a year now. They work great. Only complaint is,if you drop one on a dark stage, they are hard to locate.Ha.Rock On. |
Question: | This is compatible with others stands or hardwares like a pearl or Gibraltar |
Answer: | They are compatible with any brand but not with any size cymbal holder. I have an old Tama stand from the 80s and the cymbal holder (the part with the threading) is too narrow. But they should fit most modern stands, they fit perfect on my current PDP and Yamaha stands. |
Question: | Will this work on M8 1.25 (coarse thread) bolt? And is the the part part that connects with/grips the bolt metal |
Answer: | I don´t know if it will work on the M8 1.25. What i can say is that it´s all plastic. Good Luck. |
Question: | I'm assuming this will work on DW Hardware |
Answer: | I used them on 3 or 4 different manufacturers of stands including DW. Didn't work well on any of them. They pop off too easy. Initially I tried it on my ride but when trying to cinch it down, the plastic just gave & it wouldn't even hold the cymbal at an angle. Then I thought, ok, I'll just use it for quick install of my crashes (which I keep pretty loose anyway). No bueno. They easily popped off after 2 or 3 songs & I'd have to find them. I'm playing rock but I'm not a heavy hitter. I wish they did work, but they don't. Save your money. Afterall, we don't get paid squat anyway ;-) |

Question: | What's the difference between the blue and clear moon gells? Are they exactly the same with just a color difference? Thanks |
Answer: | I only use them to wipe off any dust that may be on my drum set. Especially before a performance. It works good for that. Don’t know how effective for a guitar. |
Question: | does this effect the sound? i play metal,so i'm inquiring if it will give the ride toms a short 'thud' like sound, like Rammstein/Mushroomhead |
Answer: | YES |
Question: | How do you wash them |
Answer: | Either you Did not follow the proper directions Or Did you ever clean your cymbals with any other cymbal cleaner or Polish before you used Zims ?Thank You Greg |
Question: | How many gel pads are included |
Answer: | Hi Robbie Thank You for contacting us Yes Zims will work Great on everything you asked about Zims was invented over 20 years ago to do just that, Clean the old very tarnished Zildjian Cymbals The only Cymbals we do not recamend Zims on are Paiste Giant Beats and the New Zildjian that just came out If you have any more questions Please call me @ 484-554-4326 I will be glad to answer anymore of your questions Thank You Greg |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work with matte finish |
Answer: | No it will not. I recommend taking your instrument to a professional. Or, and this is just my personal opinion, and have had great results. McGuire's #2 and #9 compounds. If you have no experience in buffing out surface swirl or scratches I would highly recommend a pro. |
Question: | Is this okay on electronic drums |
Answer: | I use it on a classical guitar and ukuleles so I don't have metal parts on the body, but the manufacturer does use this for electric guitars. They call it "super save water based cleaner". It depends on the finish of the guitar. They have a good website with recommendations for different instruments and different finishes. http://musicnomadcare.com/ Good luck. |
Question: | Can you use this on cymbals |
Answer: | Stevan,I have a satin finish on my Taylor, however I believe this should also work well with a matte or gloss finish. |

Question: | Do this work on the inner wood of the shell |
Answer: | Soap, warm water, hands, don't have to wash them all that often |
Question: | Will this work with sabian Cymbals that are like 10 years old |
Answer: | I purchased this on 11/4/15 and six pads were in the package. The package contains no description of the quantity, but the package I received did say "Bonus Pack, 2 Free!," so I guess the normal pack has four. |
Question: | I have a chrome shell Rockstar kit. Will this leave the shells streaky |
Answer: | Label on the bottle used to read "silicone and wax free" - but now says "restores original finish", so I'm not sure. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used on a piano’s exterior |
Answer: | I think it would depend on the finish of the drums. If it it has a lacquered finish or hard plastic finish it should be fine. It is not something that I would spray on mesh pads or even hard rubber pads. |
Question: | Can I use this with a trumpet |
Answer: | No, Nomad makes a cymbal cleaner. We sell that too. |
Question: | Can inuse on sunglasses |
Answer: | Same but just different colors |
Question: | Is this good to use with the fretboard cleaner to apply polish to the fretboard or just to wipe down without applying a cleaning solution |
Answer: | Yes, the entire point is to effect the sound (mainly the duration of the decay/resonance). The more you use and the further from the edge of the head you place them, the more 'thud' like sound you will achieve. They also effect the 'feel' (stick rebound) of the drum head. For maximum 'thud' I would go with something more like a remo Muff'l, RemOs, or maybe oil-filled dual-ply heads. You'd have to use a lot of Moogels to get the same effect. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I'm assuming this would be good for adding a tambourine or a cowbell |
Answer: | No not really, this is good for putting a smaller cymbal about 6 inches above a larger cymbal. You want a solid rod to clamp a cow bell onto. This is a good solid cymbal stand off, but it is aluminum, and partly hollow. Clamping anything to it, and hitting what is clamped to it, might cause it to bend, and fail. |
Question: | I bought this and just received it. it is too big to screw into a standard 1/4 inch cymbal titer (pearl or blackhawk). do you have one that fits |
Answer: | PDP PDAX904 has a threaded bolt which tensions onto the cymbal stand if the threaded rod is smaller. I would suggest using it with a soft metal shim ... (brass or copper) |
Question: | Most of my cymbal mounts are 8mm threaded posts, but I have five that are smaller (4 to maybe 6mm?) threaded posts. Any cymbal stackers for those |
Answer: | I don’t believe so. I think you get what they manufacture, which is a single size. From what I can remember, 8mm is the relatively new size of threading. Are the 6mm ones you have “older”? Trying to find adapters to go between sizes is a nightmare and a half. The SC-MCA6 are definitely 8mm 1.25. I hope this helps. |
Question: | Will this give enough clearance for a 12" splash over a 20" ride to play the bell |
Answer: | Can't say for certain, but I would guess 'no.' I have an 8" splash over an 18" crash, and I wouldn't be comfortable getting to the bell of the crash. |
