12 best digitech vocal harmonizers

Digitech vocal harmonizers are a type of audio processing equipment used in music production and live performances, particularly by vocalists and musicians. These devices are designed to add harmonized vocal layers to a singer's voice in real-time, creating a richer and more dynamic sound. Here's what you need to know about Digitech vocal harmonizers:

  1. Harmonization Effects: Digitech vocal harmonizers utilize digital signal processing to generate harmonies based on the input vocal signal. These harmonies can be set to various intervals (e.g., thirds, fifths, octaves) to create a desired musical effect.

  2. Real-Time Processing: One of the key features of Digitech vocal harmonizers is their ability to provide real-time harmonization. As a vocalist sings or speaks into a microphone, the harmonizer analyzes the input and generates harmonies that follow the pitch and key of the original signal.

  3. Versatility: These devices often offer a range of harmonization options, allowing users to choose from different preset harmony types or customize their own harmonies. Some models even provide gender emulation settings to adjust the character of the harmonies.

  4. Footswitch Compatibility: Many Digitech vocal harmonizers are designed for use with footswitches or pedalboards, making them convenient for live performances. Vocalists can toggle harmonization on and off as needed during a song.

  5. Built-In Effects: Some Digitech vocal harmonizers may include additional vocal effects such as reverb, delay, and pitch correction to enhance the overall sound.

  6. MIDI Connectivity: Some models offer MIDI connectivity, allowing integration with other MIDI-compatible gear and facilitating synchronization with other musical elements.

  7. Studio and Live Use: These devices are suitable for both studio recording and live performances. In the studio, vocal harmonizers can be used to create complex vocal arrangements, while in a live setting, they can add depth and dimension to a solo performance or a vocal group.

  8. Brand Reputation: Digitech is known for producing high-quality audio processing equipment, and their vocal harmonizers are widely used by professional musicians and recording artists.

Overall, Digitech vocal harmonizers are valuable tools for vocalists and musicians looking to enhance their sound with harmonized vocals. They offer a wide range of creative possibilities for adding depth and complexity to vocal performances and can be a valuable addition to any musician's toolkit.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the large black rectangle in photos a Foot Switch
Answer: Yes. That turns the effects or off
Question: I have a boss acoustic preamp with 2 outputs. Can I send one to this pedal and one to my mixer or does the instrument have to pass through
Answer: Sorry for the late reply! You can definitely send the pre-amp signal to this pedal; I use a Fishman Model G (old school) pre-amp coming out of my Ibanez acoustic. I gig regularly and don't have a great voice but do backing vocals for my wife. This definitely adds a lot of color to my harmonies and it also pitch corrects. A bit of advice: go for the extra power adapter which does NOT come with the pedal. This thing will eat batteries like you wouldn't believe and if you forget to shut it off, they're toast! Get the DC adapter and never worry about it!
Question: if you don't plug in a guitar, how do you differentiate between minor / major harmonies
Answer: All you need is the Major keys. Use your music theory to determine the relative minor/major relationship. ie: Am is also C Maj, Em is also G Maj etc.
Question: Unit supplies +48v to mic and output goes to mixer. mixer also supplies +48v to all mic input. will there be a conflict and damage mixer and ve
Answer: I've never used mine with phantom power but if you intend on doing so I would suggest allowing the VE-2 to supply the power to your condensor mic and then run the XLR output of the VE-2 to a regular mic input on your PA.

Question: So, do you just put it in your effects chain
Answer: At the end just before the AMP. Note that some heavy ethereal effects may make it difficult for the unit to program "on the fly" by strumming.
Question: Does this work wiyh JamManager
Answer: No. I mean I think what you mean is can you use JamManager to store stuff created on SDRUM or load stuff on to SDRUm from JamManager? That would be great. In fact, a software editor/manager is one of the first things I've asked Digitech about for the SDRUM.
Question: Would you recommend using this for live performances
Answer: Once you master it yes. I have not had the time to mess with it like I need to. It really seems good.
Question: Can you use line/mixer level for input
Answer: Works in my rig.

  • MASH footswitch lets you easily pitch-bend harmonized notes up to the next interval
  • Choose between latching and Momentary footswitch modes for perfect integration with your playing style
  • Designed and engineered in Denmark

User questions & answers

Question: Can it do octave up and octave down easily? Or maybe that requires use of toneprint/programming
Answer: Toneprint is very simple to use. You can have octave up + octave down simultaneously, and have one octave coming in at a delay. but it's WAY more fun to put in strange close harmonies.
Question: Can it be used to play harmony in the style of Iron Maiden
Answer: Absolutely. If you have a hard time getting it set the way you want, be patient ; it takes a few hours to get used to how this pedal works, but once you figure it out, you can do Maiden harmonies pretty easily. Here is a hint. If you set the key to G major, and the mode harmonies to 3rd above, then you could play a maiden song in E minor (the relative minor of G major, for those who need some clarification), and it will play your harmony notes for you. Set it to 4the, and you can play some Steve Via type stuff. Lots of cool things. I love this pedal. I hope that helps.
Question: Does this pedal come with a power supply
Answer: No. Small pedals pretty much never come with a power supply, because they take 9v batteries. Sometimes they ship with a battery.
Question: Can you step on it for the harmony only, then release to gp back to solo? Im trying to find out if the pedal i have is defective
Answer: I think that’s how it works if you flip there lower switch to the down position. But honestly, I can’t get this thing to work the way I want most oof the time. They definitely need better instructional materials on the TC website.

User questions & answers

Question: There are many of these ( C1, D1, etc) in the same price range. What's the best way to go for $80-100 for vocals
Answer: The R1 is where I would start. it's a fantastic reverb pedal. I also own the C1 which is Auto-tune, and the D1 which i use to "double" live vocals for a fuller sound. they all work great but reverb or delay is a must for vocal effects. Also consider the E1 for a nice slapback delay or "echo" effect.
Question: Can one unit be used for 2 vocalists if Daisy chained
Answer: You may want to try an effects loop, like through an aux send/return that you can put on each channel through the mixer.
Question: Does it sound natural
Answer: I keep the dry/wet mix at about 10:00 and yes, it sounds natural. When you turn it up past 12 it starts to sound electronic.
Question: Is this true bypass
Answer: Yes
