10 best chorus pedals
Chorus pedals are popular effects units used in the world of electric guitars and musical instruments. They are part of the family of modulation effects, which alter the sound of the instrument by modulating the audio signal. Chorus pedals, in particular, are known for creating a lush, shimmering, and spatially expansive sound. Here are some key points about chorus pedals:
Effect Description: A chorus pedal creates the illusion of multiple instruments playing the same part simultaneously. It does this by duplicating the original audio signal, slightly modulating its pitch and time, and blending it back with the original signal. This results in a thicker and richer sound reminiscent of a choir or ensemble of instruments.
Sound Characteristics: Chorus pedals produce a subtle, swirling, and undulating sound. The modulated signal creates a sense of depth and width, giving the impression that your guitar sound is coming from a larger space. It's often used to add warmth and dimension to clean guitar tones or to enhance the spaciousness of arpeggios and chords.
Controls: Chorus pedals typically have adjustable parameters that allow users to fine-tune the effect. Common controls include:
- Rate: Adjusts the speed of modulation.
- Depth: Controls the intensity or depth of the modulation effect.
- Mix or Blend: Determines the balance between the dry (unaffected) signal and the wet (chorused) signal.
- Feedback: Alters the number of times the signal is fed back into the effect, creating different tonal variations.
Mono and Stereo: Chorus pedals are available in both mono and stereo configurations. Stereo chorus can create a more immersive and spacious effect when used with stereo amplifiers or recording setups.
Applications: Chorus pedals are versatile and can be used in various musical genres. They are commonly used in rock, pop, and clean jazz guitar styles. They can also be employed creatively for experimental or ambient music.
Historical Significance: Chorus effects became popular in the 1980s and were used extensively by artists like The Police and Nirvana. The Boss CE-1 Chorus Ensemble and the Roland JC-120 amplifier played a significant role in popularizing this effect.
Chorus vs. Flanger vs. Phaser: Chorus, flanger, and phaser are all modulation effects, but they produce distinct sounds. Chorus creates a shimmering and spacious effect, flanger produces a jet-plane-like sweeping sound, and phaser delivers a swirly, sweeping sound with notches in the frequency spectrum.
Chorus pedals have been a staple in the arsenal of many guitarists and musicians for decades due to their ability to add depth and dimension to their sound. Whether you're looking to recreate the iconic sounds of the '80s or add a touch of shimmer to your clean guitar tones, a chorus pedal can be a valuable addition to your effects setup.

User questions & answers
Question: | can you get rid of the radio noise interference somehow |
Answer: | I dont have radio noise with this device. However it depends on your setup. I have this pedal on my board and it is after my tuner, compressor and overdrive pedals. I also have 6 other pedals after this one. I am powering everything with a MXR M238 power brick. And I am plugging the power brick into a furman PT-6 power conditioner. I have little to no noise interference. My setup is pretty quiet. You might need to do some trial and error. I would start with the power conditioner to see if it removes the noise coming from the wall outlet. After that I would look at a noise gate pedal. This will cut the noise when you are not playing. THe donner Noise killer is a great cheap pedal or a ISP technologies Decimator is a industry standard but more expensive. There are other options also. And is that still does not do the trick look into an isolated power supply. This you might need to spend a few bucks on because most of the ones that are cheap are not a true isolated power supply. |
Question: | Will this work on a mosky looper |
Answer: | It all depends on the polarity of your unit. + - |
Question: | Does the pedal come with its own cord |
Answer: | No. It does not. 9V battery will NOT work. I bought the power adapter from Amazon as well. |
Question: | Does this go pre or post dirt in the signal chain |
Answer: | I would use it at the end of your chain . . .the only thing that I use after the noise gate is a delay pedal . . . . so basically all your pedal should be set up first with the noise gate at the end . . except for a delay . . . . . if you find that your delay is noisy then put the noise get the very last pedal |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the maximum delay time |
Answer: | Thanks for the interest here. Doesn't really show the specs on the exact max time but as this is a digital unit, the delay can go 1,200 ms and beyond. Nice unit for the price and a player favorite. |
Question: | Does it work well with bass guitars |
Answer: | Obviously it will "work" on any audio signal but will it sound good for bass? It really depends on what you're looking for but I wouldn't think so. That pedal is a real over-the-top kind of distortion which I would think would be too much for bass. You might want to do a bit more research for a pedal that is specifically for bass. |
Question: | Can someone suggest a compatible adaptor for this |
Answer: | I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00191WVF6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_RdVtCbNF1EE9C |
Question: | Is the logistics updated in time |

Product description
The Julia is a fully analog, feature-rich chorus/vibrato packed with a wide array of tonal landscapes begging to be explored. Updated for 2020, Julia now has top mounted jacks, soft switch bypassing and updated art from Adam Forster. Julia is able to produce mild smooth chorus, to seasick vibrato and everywhere in between. With controls like Lag, Dry-Chorus-Vibrato Blend, and selectable analog LFO wave shapes, you are able to dial in all types of classic and unique chorus/vibrato sounds; some settings giving a familiar feel while others are not found on traditional chorus pedals. A special feature of the Julia is the Lag control. The Lag knob lets you set the center delay time that the LFO effect modulates from. From smooth and tight modulation at lower settings, to warbling detune at maximum, the Lag knob adds a new dimension to the traditional Chorus/Vibrato landscape.
- RATE – The Rate knob allows you to set the speed at which the LFO sweeps. From little to no movement at lower settings, to wild wackiness at max.
- DEPTH – The Depth knob allows you to change the amplitude of the LFO. From no movement to deep sweeping modulation.
- LAG – The Lag knob lets you set the center delay time that the LFO modulates around. From smooth tight modulation at lower settings, to noisy nauseating detune at maximum, the Lag knob adds a new dimension to the traditional Chorus/Vibrato landscape.
- WAVE SWITCH – The Wave switch lets you select either sine or triangle LFO waveforms. The sharper corners of the triangle wave generally sound more appealing for chorus type effects, and the more round shape of the sine wave generally sound better with vibrato type effects.
- D-C-V BLEND – The Dry-Chorus-Vibrato Blend changes the ratio of dry to wet signal sent to the output. At minimum, you will hear no effect. Set it to noon for equal parts dry and wet – the traditional chorus setting. Set it to maximum for 100% wet – the traditional vibrato setting.

About Walrus Audio
Walrus Audio is a collective of artists, musicians and engineers attempting to find the balance between art and performance in sound manipulation. Throughout the years we have been inspired by sounds created by our favorite companies: the perfect breakup on an overdrive; a thick, punchy distortion; an endlessly sustained reverb; a self-oscillating delay. We had to give it a shot. Through many months of late night breadboarding sessions, circuit problem-solving, and sonic tweaking we have come up with a range of guitar pedals as versatile as they are functional.

User questions & answers
Question: | Which is better, this pedal, or the Boss CH-1 Super Stereo Chorus |
Answer: | I like the small clone because of it's simplicity and unless you run two amps there's no need for stereo. As far as sound I think both the Boss and Small clone are good tone for what they. I myself don't use chorus as the reverb on my Swart amp sounds better. |
Question: | Can you use the truetone 1 spot |
Answer: | I use the Boss pedal case that comes with it's own power source (s), but i believe amps/volts are rated the same as the onespot. |
Question: | Anyone use this with an accoustic? Results? Thanks |
Answer: | It works great if you can get past the feed back which is caused by the accoustic. |
Question: | Can the ce-5 also be used with a bass guitar |
Answer: | Use it for any time you need chourus effects bass included |
