13 best fender tube amps

Fender tube amplifiers, often simply referred to as "Fender amps," are iconic pieces of musical equipment known for their rich, warm, and classic sound. These amplifiers have played a significant role in shaping the sound of rock, blues, and various other genres of music. Here are some key points about Fender tube amps and their various components:

  1. History: Fender is a renowned American manufacturer of musical instruments and amplifiers, founded by Leo Fender in the 1940s. Fender's early amplifiers, such as the Fender Deluxe and Fender Twin, utilized vacuum tube technology.

  2. Tube Technology: Fender tube amps rely on vacuum tubes (also known as valves) to amplify the guitar signal. Vacuum tubes are known for their warm and natural tone, and they were commonly used in amplifiers until solid-state technology became more prevalent.

  3. Popular Models: Fender has produced a wide range of tube amplifiers over the years, each with its unique characteristics. Some popular models include the Fender Deluxe Reverb, Fender Twin Reverb, Fender Blues Junior, and Fender Bassman. These amps have been used by countless famous musicians.

  4. Tone Control: Fender tube amps typically have a straightforward control panel that includes knobs for adjusting the volume, treble, bass, and sometimes midrange. These controls allow musicians to shape their desired tone.

  5. Clean and Overdriven Sounds: Fender amps are known for their clean tones, which are characterized by a pristine and undistorted sound. However, they can also produce a warm and musical overdrive when pushed to higher volumes, which has made them popular for blues and rock music.

  6. Reverb and Vibrato: Many Fender tube amps include built-in reverb and vibrato (tremolo) effects, adding depth and modulation to the sound. These effects contribute to the distinctive Fender amp sound.

  7. Customization: Fender tube amps are often modifiable, allowing musicians to swap out tubes, speakers, and other components to fine-tune their amplifier's performance and tone to their liking.

  8. Vintage and Reissue Models: Vintage Fender tube amps from the '50s, '60s, and '70s are highly sought after by collectors and musicians. Fender has also released reissue models that aim to recreate the classic tones and aesthetics of these vintage amps.

  9. Diverse Applications: Fender tube amps are used by a wide range of musicians, from jazz and blues players seeking clean tones to rock and country artists looking for that classic overdriven sound.

  10. Collectibility: Vintage Fender tube amps are considered valuable collectibles, with certain models commanding high prices in the vintage guitar market.

Fender tube amplifiers continue to be beloved by musicians for their timeless sound and reliability. Whether you're playing in a small club or a large stadium, a Fender tube amp can deliver the tone and volume you need for your musical journey.

User questions & answers

Question: So am I buying a Harmonica or a tube amp. First paragraph is describing a harmonica in different keys
Answer: It's the amp. Clearly a typo with the first part of the description. And the amp is great
Question: How do you hook up an effects loop
Answer: You don’t, way better to run a befal board in series. This amp doesn’t need much, a tube screamer, your favorite wah pedal, maybe a delay, that’s it. It is an incredible tone machine. I put an expensive 10 band EQ on this amp thinking I might make the tone even better, not so, I pulled it out of the loop, amp better by itself.
Question: Are the tubes made by Fender? If not, what brand are they
Answer: Without taking the amp apart, I can see 3 GT tubes and one made in Russia. The last tube I can.'t see the label. Hope this helps, if not I can open the back for more info.
Question: I am going to purchase a slide/lap guitar. i am attracted to fenders mustang series, but have been advised to purchase a tube amp. any thoughts
Answer: The Blues Junior is a great sounding amp. I play my lap steel through it on occasion and it's a good combination. Most guitarists prefer the sound of tube amps. The Blues Junior is a big step up from the mustang series in terms of sound quality. It's also more expensive. Play your instrument through both and see if the difference in sound is worth the difference in money to you.

User questions & answers

Question: One more try, and please read the question. the bj models before the bj iv had horrible, non linear volume controls, is the iv fixed? is it linear
Answer: The iv fixed it.
Question: Where is this amp made - thanks
Answer: This amp sounds great even though it's made in Mexico. The speakers are Fender (Jensen) Made in USA. It's loud as hell.
Question: besides 4 the stock speaker does it have an extra speaker out 4 to make it a mini like stack
Answer: It has two speaker outs. The primary tap is at 8 ohms. When you plug into it and the second tap, the transformer's 4 ohm tap is used. This means you can either (1) run the amp alone on the internal 8 ohm speaker, or (2) run it with the internal speaker and an external 8 ohm running at the same time (in parallel), or (3) unplug the internal speaker and use the primary output to drive an 8-ohm external speaker cabinet, or finally (4) use both taps to drive two 8-ohm external speaker cabinets. I've done them all with my 2 14 year old Hot Rod Deluxes.
Question: Does it have a headphone jack
Answer: No this amp does not have a headphone jack.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the Super Reverb have an effects loop
Answer: No, this amp does not have an effects loop.
Question: How does this amp compare with the Mustang modeling amps in terms of clean tone and overall value? I have a pedalboard for overdrive sounds
Answer: The Mustangs are a great value due to their wide variety of good-sounding amp models, on-board effects, and watts per dollar. Many players feel, however, that for a clean amp sound nothing beats a Fender classic tube reissue like the Deluxe. It's good with pedals too. Kind of pricey compared to the Mustangs, but for some "that sound" is where the value lies.
Question: Does the fender '65 twin reverb reissue actually contain two independent amplifiers ?? two completely independent sets of volume and tone controls
Answer: It is called a twin reverb because of the twin 12 inch speakers. Not the amplifier. The Deluxe Reverb only has 1 - 12" speaker.
Question: It's loud enough to a live gig
Answer: For jazz, it works fine but has limited headroom. It'll do loud, but not really loud clean. If that's a problem just mic it and it's fine in the PA.

Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb Digital Modeling Guitar Amplifier

Product description

In a bold Fender first, the tone master deluxe reverb amplifier uses massive digital processing power to achieve a single remarkable sonic feat: faithfully modeling the circuitry and 22-Watt power output of an original deluxe tube amp. Using a high-performance 100-watt digital power amp to achieve the headroom and dynamic range of a real vintage deluxe tube amp, paired with the pronounced sparkle and clarity of a single Jensen n-12k neodymium speaker and a resonant Pine cabinet, The result is tubeless deluxe reverb tone, volume and dynamics virtually indistinguishable from the all-tube original. And with all these features, the tone master deluxe reverb is in fact about only half the weight of an all-tube deluxe. Front panel features give guitarists a playing experience identical to the tube version, including Fender world-standard reverb and tremolo effects. Additional rear-panel features deliver modern convenience and flexibility—including an output power selector for full power and five attenuated settings, balanced XLR line output with impulse response (IR) cabinet simulations, mute switch for silent stage or recording use, USB port for firmware upgrades, and more.

User questions & answers

Question: I have a lot of pedals especially reverb/echo ones, then do I need this tonemaster or a champion 100xl will do? Pls advise
Answer: The Champion 100xl has a gamut of foot pedal effects built in if you check the specs on Fender's website. This may be a disadvantage or advantage to you in that you will need to use fewer effects pedals than you do at present. The Champion 100xl weighs far more than the Tone Master Deluxe reverb, which is important to me as I travel internationally. The Tone Master Deluxe Reverb has a normal socket as well as it's Reverb socket. I also have a selection of effects pedals, among them a Fender Marine Layer Reverb which I still use with this amp. The sound reproduction is fantastic even though it has only one speaker (I know that the Champion 100xl has two Celestions which are fantastic speakers). The Tone Master Deluxe Reverb's ability to power down from 22 watts to 0.2 watts was another reason why I selected it over the other Fender amps. It enabled me to hear, and enjoy, the music created without disturbing the neighbourhood whilst still allowing full volume on gigs. Both are great speakers but the Tone Master Deluxe Reverb allows more scope in what effects pedals I want to add to it for whatever genre music I want to play.
Question: So the tone master does a better job on the reverb deluxe then their mustang gt does ? (tm is 1 trick pony. mustang gt does 100's ofthings though
Answer: I have the GT 40, and this amp blows it out of the water. The GT series divides they processing power between different amps and the Tone Master uses it all for just one
Question: Does the Tonemaster Twin have enough clean headroom
Answer: Absolutely it does. Just like a normal Twin it has tremendous headroom for clean but you can also attenuate it in the back to get it to break up at lower volume. Best of both worlds.
Question: How would this sound with acoustic guitars? Advisable or not
Answer: Not advisable. Electric guitar amps intentionally distort and are designed to produce a limited frequency range. Acoustic needs a clean, full range amplifier like a Fender Acoustisonic.

Question: Where is this made
Answer: Corona california, usa
Question: Does this come with a cover
Answer: Yes, the '57 Custom Champ comes with a fitted cover.
Question: Is this amp 110v or 220v
Answer: 110v
Question: Is this a good harmonica amp
Answer: No idea. My guess is that it would be overkill for a harmonica amp but I don't understand the specific needs of a harp player. You're always playing through a microphone for a harmonica, right? In that context it seems a bit ridiculous to spend this kind of money. Or is this question meant in jest?

Groove Tubes GT-EL84-R Medium Duet Amplifier Tube

Nearly every modern tube amp company produces a small amp, and Groove Tubes EL84's are a perfect upgrade for any stock tube in these amps. Great for recording and rehearsal; with a soft and tactile touch, rich harmonic response and pleasingly musical top end. A solid performer - good quality and long lasting. Tends to be a little more aggressive and edgy when pushed into overdrive. This version is a little brighter, but still has a nice smooth top end.
