10 best 15 watt tube amp
A 15-watt tube amp is an electric guitar amplifier that uses vacuum tube technology to amplify the guitar signal. These amps are known for their warm, vintage sound and are popular among guitarists for their tonal characteristics and versatility. Here's what you need to know about a 15-watt tube amp:
Wattage: A 15-watt tube amp refers to the amplifier's power rating. This rating indicates the amount of power the amplifier can deliver to drive the connected speaker(s). It's a mid-range power rating suitable for various musical settings, from practice sessions to smaller live performances.
Tube Technology: Tube amplifiers, also known as valve amplifiers, use vacuum tubes (or valves) to amplify the guitar signal. These tubes are known for producing a warm and natural tone that many guitarists find pleasing.
Tone and Sound: 15-watt tube amps are valued for their rich and harmonically complex sound. They provide a classic "tube amp" tone that is often associated with blues, rock, and vintage genres of music.
Clean and Overdriven Tones: Tube amps can produce both clean tones and overdriven/distorted tones. They respond dynamically to changes in playing dynamics, making them expressive and versatile.
Volume: A 15-watt tube amp is typically loud enough for practice sessions and smaller venues. The volume can be adjusted to achieve the desired level of amplification.
Combo Amps: Many 15-watt tube amps come in combo amp configurations, which means the amplifier and speaker(s) are housed in a single unit. This makes them portable and convenient for gigging.
Speaker Configuration: Some 15-watt tube amps have single speakers, while others feature multiple speaker configurations. The choice of speaker(s) can affect the overall sound and projection.
Tube Types: Tube amps use different types of tubes, such as 12AX7 for preamp and EL84 or 6V6 for power amp tubes. The type of tubes used can influence the amp's tonal characteristics.
Controls: Tube amps typically have controls for volume, tone, and often a gain or distortion control. These controls allow you to shape your sound.
Effects: Some 15-watt tube amps come with built-in reverb or tremolo effects, while others have an effects loop for connecting external effects pedals.
Portability: These amps are relatively compact and portable, making them a good choice for musicians who need a versatile amp that's easy to transport.
Price Range: The cost of a 15-watt tube amp can vary widely depending on factors like brand, build quality, and features. Entry-level models may be more affordable, while high-end models can be more expensive.
Brand Options: There are many manufacturers that produce 15-watt tube amps, including Fender, Vox, Marshall, Orange, and Blackstar, among others.
In summary, a 15-watt tube amp is a versatile and classic choice for guitarists looking for a warm and dynamic sound. Whether you're a beginner or a professional musician, these amps offer a wide range of tonal options and can be used for various musical styles and settings.

Get superior guitar tone and flexibility using this 15-Watt, 1x12 Guitar Combo Tube Amplifier with Celestion Speaker & Spring Reverb from Monoprice! As the title indicates, this guitar amplifier features a 15-watt tube power amplifier and a Celestion brand speaker. It uses three ECC83/12AX7 preamplification tubes and two EL84 power tubes for the amplifier section, plus a Celestion Red Truvox 1215 speaker. The EL84 tube is the tube that powered the Mullard amplifiers favored by the British Invasion bands of the 1960s. It can produce a full output from a relatively small signal and is therefore easily overdriven to produce that distinctive chiming, treble-heavy sound, especially when compared to the 6L6 tubes more commonly used in 1960s era American guitar amps. The amplifier handles frequencies between 80Hz and 10kHz, with hum and noise -75dB below the rated power and 0.5% total harmonic distortion. It includes a Low input and a High input, with the former attenuating the signal by approximately 50% and the latter being easier to overdrive. The cabinet is ported in the rear and features a leather handle, cloth speaker grill, and a cream-colored, textured, synthetic leather exterior with chrome corner guards. The amp features a genuine spring reverb with the ability to enable it remotely using a foot switch. It supports FX send and receive, so you can either connect it to an effects processor or use the send/receive connections as line out and line in connections. Two inputs allow you to select between the full power mode and a 1 watt limited amplification mode for recording or late night practice sessions.

Question: | Does it have good bottom end in the drive channel? i bought a prs mt-15 and the drive channel was thin and nasally |
Answer: | Metal band in a 1000 seat venue-no, local bar,100 people or less, normal drummer should be OK. A friend of mine has the 100 watt version and has been playing local gigs at 50 watts, says its just loud enough, works fine. |
Question: | I'm looking for a matching cabinet for the evh 5150iii 15w lbxii. any suggestions |
Answer: | Yes. The extra features that it brings makes the MKII much more useful. |
Question: | What speakers/cab is recommended for this head |
Answer: | Runs the amp at 50 watts, 25 or .5 watts, different levels depending on the volume you need. .5 watt is great for when the kids are sleeping. |
Question: | Can it work through a 4 12s cab |
Answer: | There are a few more effects on the MkII and the pots for effects are now dual pots to make it easier to dial in... AMP IN is now on the Katana to allow you to plug in a multi-effects board etc and bypass the amp settings.. The "sneaky amps" available on the MkI are blocked out on the MkII.. but you get 5 more voice settings on the 5 amps available for the MkII.. newer and easier software.. Patches made for the MkI work with the MkII, but the MkII patches do not work on the MkI. |

User questions & answers
Question: | So am I buying a Harmonica or a tube amp. First paragraph is describing a harmonica in different keys |
Answer: | It's the amp. Clearly a typo with the first part of the description. And the amp is great |
Question: | How do you hook up an effects loop |
Answer: | You don’t, way better to run a befal board in series. This amp doesn’t need much, a tube screamer, your favorite wah pedal, maybe a delay, that’s it. It is an incredible tone machine. I put an expensive 10 band EQ on this amp thinking I might make the tone even better, not so, I pulled it out of the loop, amp better by itself. |
Question: | Are the tubes made by Fender? If not, what brand are they |
Answer: | Without taking the amp apart, I can see 3 GT tubes and one made in Russia. The last tube I can.'t see the label. Hope this helps, if not I can open the back for more info. |
Question: | I am going to purchase a slide/lap guitar. i am attracted to fenders mustang series, but have been advised to purchase a tube amp. any thoughts |
Answer: | The Blues Junior is a great sounding amp. I play my lap steel through it on occasion and it's a good combination. Most guitarists prefer the sound of tube amps. The Blues Junior is a big step up from the mustang series in terms of sound quality. It's also more expensive. Play your instrument through both and see if the difference in sound is worth the difference in money to you. |

The MT 15 is a commanding two channel amp with balanced aggression and articulation. Powered by 6L6 tubes, the MT 15 has a large, bold sound, so you can dig in heavy with rhythms but also get singing lead tones out of one amp. Whether recording, practicing, writing, or playing a small room, this amp has everything you need. The MT 15’s design started with heavier players in mind, but in the end, it has a lot to offer players of all genres. Like the PRS Archon amplifier, the MT 15 features five gain stages before the Master for full, lush distortion. The gain channel gets big, chunky tone with massive, tight low end, but it never loses its articulate note definition or great lead tone. The clean channel is bright and chimney, good with chords and fingerstyle playing – whether with a pic or not. The clean channel also features a push/pull boost control that adds a little overdrive for old school crunch. No matter what tone you dial in, the MT 15 stays balanced across the spectrum with a sweet, smooth tone that won’t bite your head off. Additional features include an effects loop and bias adjusters that are accessible from the back panel for ease of servicing. Despite its 15 watts, the MT 15 sounds more like 50, so a half power switch that takes the MT to 7 watts is a welcome addition. Bottom line, the amount of features, the hugeness of the sound, and the raw horsepower of the circuit make the MT 15 an impressive lunchbox hero. The MT 15 is Mark Tremonti’s first signature amplifier.
- 15/7 Watts (Switchable)
- 2 Channels
- 6L6 Power Tubes
- Dimensions: 14" x 8" x 7.25" (with feet)
- Included Accessories: 1-Button Footswitch (Channel Gain/Clean), Amp Cover
User questions & answers
Question: | Can i connect 2 16ohm speakers to this |
Answer: | Yes, there is a single 16 ohm and two 8 ohm speaker output jacks, so with two 16 ohm cabs you would connect to the two 8 ohm outputs. |
Question: | does it have a 3.5 mm jack on it |
Answer: | The MT15 does not have any kind of headphone or line out jack. As it is a full tube amp, it needs to have a load at all times, either in the form of a speaker cabinet, or a load box (Suhr Reactive Load, Mesa Boogie CabClone, Rivera Rockcrusher Recording, Universal Audio OX, etc.). Brian Meader Sales Manager The Guitar Sanctuary |
Question: | does it have a 3.5 mm jack on it |
Answer: | No |
Question: | how many total tubes does it have |
Answer: | 6 Preamp Tubes, 2 Power Tubes |

First introduced in 1958, the AC15 combo has been the amp of choice for countless guitar players throughout the world. Drawing on more than 50 years of amp-building expertise, the AC15C1 Custom Series offers maximum tonal dexterity. VOX Custom Series amps offer two channels: Normal and Top-Boost. Each channel is equipped with its own Volume control, and the Top Boost channel offers highly interactive Treble and Bass tone controls. This powerful channel pairing provides an abundance of tone-crafting control, letting you dial in a classic sound that is all your own. Both channels rely on the Tone Cut and Volume controls in the Master section. The Tone Cut control operates in the power stage rather than the preamp stage, allowing an additional degree of tone-shaping. The Master Volume control works in conjunction with the individual volumes of each channel to create just the right degree of gain-staging. By balancing the individual and Master volumes, the Custom Series can deliver everything from a clean VOX "chimey" sound to a powerful overdriven tone. You can sweeten the sound of your Custom Series amplifier using the VOX Classic Tremolo effect. Both the speed and the depth are adjustable, allowing you to generate just the sound you want. A warm Spring Reverb is also included on all Custom Series amps, adding spaciousness to the sound. All Custom Series amps can use the VOX VFS2 footswitch, allowing you to turn the Reverb and Tremolo effects on and off as you continue to play. The AC15C1 combo makes use of 3 x 12AX7 preamp tubes and uses pair of EL84 tubes to drive a single 12" Celestion G12M Greenback. All models in the Custom Series offer a switchable 8/16 ohm output jack for powering an external speaker cabinet when you need to speak with a little more authority; using this jack will mute the internal speakers. Additionally, a 2nd extension speaker jack allows you to run an extra 16 ohm cabinet along with the internal speakers for a fuller sound.
- 10 Watt tube combo offering the classic VOX Top Boost tone
- EL84 power tubes; 12AX7 preamp tubes
- Custom 10" VX10 speaker made by Celestion
- Simple but effective Gain, Bass, Treble, Reverb, and Master Volume controls
- Extension and External speaker outputs; By-passable Effect Loop, Distinctive VOX Styling. Output Power: 10W RMS
User questions & answers
Question: | Can you get that 60's mrb effect on this amp |
Answer: | Really.... not really. MRB was very specific and only came on Thomas Organ Sepulveda-made Vox amps of the 60's. This is a good amp for the money, but I had to do a lot of tweaking on mine to get where I wanted to go (and I still may not be 100% yet!) |
Question: | This listing says 2 amps for$700. Can that be right |
Answer: | It cannot be right. Sometimes these sellers are ESL. The 2 likely refers to the fact that there are two inputs on a Vox AC15; a normal channel and top boost channel input. Maybe the seller thinks this is for playing two guitars at the same time or something? In any case, if you see a deal like this on a Vox tube amp you either got supremely lucky or it’s a mistake. |
Question: | can you use both channels at the same time |
Answer: | Yes. I've used the two outputs on my Line 6 HD500 into the two inputs. You get a bassier sound than just the top boost channel. |
Question: | If I use an A/B switch, does it switch before the individual channel volumen pots (can I get 2 volumes using an A/B switch, like a clean boost |
Answer: | This amp is not a channel-switching amp and does not accept an A/B footswitch for channel switching; however, you can get an ABY switch, which you will put BEFORE the inputs. What it will do is take the output from your guitar and split it 2 ways. The pedal switch will select which one of the two ways the output will go. Connect one of them to the "normal" input of the amp and the other to the "top boost" channel. Both channels of the amp are always on, but what comes out of the speaker depends on which input you're using. So, your guitar goes to the ABY switch, then depending on which of the Y outputs you've selected, continues to whichever amp input it's connected to. This is effect will give you channel switching. But bear in mind that both amplifier channel inputs are always on. |

Question: | What all controls are on the amp |
Answer: | Its a standard amp(not a modelling amp) thats versatile and packs some punch with Volume, gain, bass, treble, mids,(reverb and delay)effects....4 channels...clean/crunch/od1/od2 |
Question: | Whats in the Box |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a good choice for electroacoustic instruments, keyboards, etc.? I've been told guitar-specific amps can "color" the sound too much |
Answer: | This is made specifically for guitars. If you use an acoustic it won't sound much like an acoustic would on its own. That said, dont let it stop you from experimentation. That is the whole point of music! |
Question: | can i use peddles or effects with this amp |
Answer: | Yes. Its a great sounding practice amp, the 6" speaker can only handle so much. But you can use pedals with it. |
Question: | does it come with the cable needed to plug it into the wall |
Answer: | Yes, it comes with a power cable. Great practice amp. |
Question: | Does this have clean or dirty |
Answer: | One channel so you have to adjust to get either clean or dirty. |
