14 best bass guitar combo amps
Bass guitar combo amps are popular amplification solutions among bassists due to their convenience and portability. Here's what you need to know about bass guitar combo amps:
Bass Guitar Combo Amps:
All-in-One Solution:
- Bass guitar combo amps combine the amplifier and speaker in a single unit. This all-in-one design simplifies setup and transport, making them ideal for practice sessions, small gigs, and rehearsals.
Power and Wattage:
- Combo amps come in various wattages to suit different needs. Lower wattage amps (e.g., 15-50 watts) are suitable for practice and small venues, while higher wattage amps (e.g., 100 watts and above) are capable of handling larger stages and venues.
Speaker Size:
- Combo amps feature different speaker sizes, commonly 10", 12", or 15". Smaller speakers provide a punchy sound, while larger speakers offer more depth and low-end response. The choice depends on the player's preference and the style of music they play.
Portability:
- Bass combo amps are generally more portable than separate amplifier heads and speaker cabinets. They are easy to carry and set up, making them popular among gigging musicians who need a compact solution.
Tone Controls:
- Combo amps have built-in EQ controls, allowing bassists to adjust the bass, midrange, and treble frequencies. Some models may also include additional tone-shaping options, such as contour or graphic EQs.
Inputs and Outputs:
- Combo amps typically have multiple input jacks, allowing bassists to connect their instrument and other audio devices like smartphones or MP3 players. Some combo amps also feature headphone jacks for silent practice and line outputs for connecting to recording equipment or larger sound systems.
Built-in Effects:
- Certain bass combo amps come with built-in effects like chorus, reverb, or overdrive. These effects can enhance the bassist's sound without the need for external pedals.
Durability and Construction:
- Combo amps are designed to be sturdy and roadworthy. They often feature protective metal grilles and durable outer coverings to withstand the rigors of live performances and transportation.
When choosing a bass guitar combo amp, bassists should consider factors such as the amp's wattage, speaker size, tonal options, and additional features to ensure it meets their specific playing requirements and preferences. Trying out different models with your own bass guitar can help you find the combo amp that suits your playing style and sound needs.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it worth the extra $300 to get the Rumble 500 head and the 410 and 115 cab, rather than the combo + the 115 extension |
Answer: | I have the 210 combo and 115 extension. The 115 comes with wheels and I put the 210 on a rock and roller cart. Extremely portable and very loud, it will get louder than your ears can stand. I would say the combo and 115 are plenty. Not worth getting the head and 410, just a waste of money and more weight to carry around. |
Question: | As a stand alone unit, are the 210's pushing 500 watts, or do you need to attach another cabinet at lower ohms to get your 500 watts |
Answer: | As a standalone unit the two 10 inch speakers are pushing 350 Watts at 8 ohms (Internal). You need to attach an external 8 ohm speaker cabinet to get 500 Watts. Attaching the external 8 ohm speaker cabinet brings the total impedance down to 4 ohms and that is when you get the maximum 500 Watts. |
Question: | I'm helping a friend pick out a bass & amp for her son. Would this amp be loud enough for a small entry-level garage band |
Answer: | I remember way back when I was in my first band. I had an ampeg B-15 and it was woefully underpowered. All I got out of it was a ton of distortion. It can be very frustrating for a new player to have to deal with poor sound. I’ve known guys who have given up playing because of the frustration of dealing with noise instead of music. I would use a 25w amp for practicing by myself but for a garage band I would go with a minimum of 100w. |
Question: | is this amp usable in new zealand |
Answer: | I turned mine upside down and it still worked so I suppose it will be OK down there. (On mine, input power is marked 100-120V @ 50-60 HZ, 70W.) |

Question: | Is this the same amp/bag bundle listed on the Positive Grid site for $249. Dec |
Answer: | No, these are powered via USB |
Question: | Will the spark app run on Android |
Answer: | I bought a set of these speakers a few months ago. They work very well and I reccommend them highly. Remember these are USB speakers and the only connection you have to make is plugging them into an available USB port. You DO NOT need an addition audio 0r power cable. These speakers are most valuable for anyone having a lap top or desk top whose audio card or chip has stopped working. I am very pleased with mine. |
Question: | Question for amazon: does this come from amazon with a 2-prong power supply or 3-prong |
Answer: | It connects to USB, so it should be able to work as long as the device has USB. But it is meant for a monitor so it might look a little odd. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this amp have a fan |
Answer: | I'm honestly unsure. If it does, I've never, ever heard it running. I've played indoors and outdoors - cooler weather (say 50degF) and warmer weather (say 90degF) and never ran into any temp-related issues in that range. I use it with my bass guitar. |
Question: | Loud enough to play live |
Answer: | Maybe in a small indoor venue. The 100 watt would fair better. |
Question: | Could I run a drop tubes 7 string guitar through this |
Answer: | Sorry; I'm a little familiar with a Drop D; Drop A; etc., on a 7 string but not with Drop Tubes. Ultimately, you can play a guitar 6 string, 7 string, 12 string through a bass amp, but you're going to lose sound quality. |
Question: | Hello I need to use it in Argentina, there the voltage is 220v, which should I modify in the amplifier |
Answer: | You need to change the fuse in the back panel only. It is also rated for 220V when you change the fuse to the value on the sticker on the back pane. I will use the amp in Germany where we also have 220V. |

Orange Crush Bass 50
From warm modern cleans, through to vintage grind and all the way up to full-on distorted mayhem, the Crush Bass 50 combines the essentials of a practice rig with tone and features normally reserved for the pros. The Crush Bass 50 draws inspiration from our flagship OB1 and 4 Stroke amplifiers, bringing some of the defining elements of each into a compact combo.
Like the rest of the Crush Bass range, this 50 Watt model delivers bold and punchy lows courtesy of its analogue circuitry and ported cabinetry. The extremely flexible active EQ section includes a sweepable parametric mid band, allowing players to shape their signature sound without limitations. For even more versatility, the interactive Gain and Blend controls are primed for creating enormous ‘bi-amped’-style tones with ease, adding extra harmonics and variable levels of grit to the core bass tone. They can also be switched in remotely using the optional footswitch. Other handy features include a buffered effects loop, integrated tuner, aux. input and a headphone output with our Cabsim circuitry.
Ever since the founding of the company in 1968, Orange has been a pioneering force in the guitar amplification industry. Our commitment to craftsmanship and quality control has allowed our amplifiers to stand the test of time, giving their owners as much pleasure now, as the day they were bought. Today, with a team of the world’s finest amplifier engineers, Orange continues to push back the boundaries of conventional amplifier design.
Powerful Active Parametric EQ
The Crush Bass 50 features an EQ circuit inspired by our prestigious 4 Stroke Series amplifiers. At its centre is a parametric mid band. This presents players with a much greater degree of control over the sound than a traditional EQ, allowing them to vary the frequencies they want hear. The mid band covers a wide range, sweeping from 300Hz (fully counter-clockwise) to 2.7kHz (fully clockwise), meaning this amp can be fine tuned to suit any musical style. The active circuitry allows for up to 15dB of boost or cut on the bass and middle frequencies, and up to 20dB on the treble side.
Blend & Gain
Lifted straight from our popular OB1 Series amps, the Blend and Gain controls are a nod to the many bass players who experiment with guitar and bass amps simultaneously. In this ‘bi-amped’ setup, layers of harmonics and distortion from the guitar amp are blended with the core bass tone to create the ultimate full-range live sound. The Crush Bass 50’s Gain and Blend controls create the same effect in a single package, adding extra bite and crispness to the tone at lower gain settings, right up to all-out filth with the dials cranked. These controls can also be engaged remotely with the optional FS-1 footswitch, ideal for fattening your tone on the fly.
Analogue Design & Ported Cabinet
The Crush Bass series delivers fat, rounded sound thanks to an all analogue signal path. The Crush Bass 50 houses a 12” speaker with a reflex port for improved low-end response. The buffered effects loop has been engineered for maximum transparency, ensuring your pedal arsenal will perform to its peak.
Cabsim Headphone Output, Aux Input & Chromatic Tuner
The headphone output features our Cabsim circuitry which emulates the response of our stage-ready OBC bass speaker cabinets during silent practice. This signal can also be sent to a console for seriously authentic direct recording. The Aux. Input allows for connecting external audio sources for backing tracks whilst the handy onboard tuner makes for quick tune-ups between jams.
Brian 'Head' Welch - KoRn
“KoRn has always been in the game of matching different amp tones and blending them together in the studio. And Orange has always been right there in the mix!"
Sergio Vega - Bass Player for Deftones/Quicksand
"This sounds really meaty. We tweaked it [the Crush Bass combo] for a about 30 seconds tops and we got a great sound without investing much time into it. With the Crush Bass 50, I see myself using it on home, recording with it, taking it on the road, recording at the hotel. This thing sounds really good. I could use this live in certain capacities and certain gigs and I wouldn’t have any issue bringing this into a space."
Glenn Hughes - Bassist for Deep Purple
"You can go in the studio, take that bass combo and make your album with something like that, it’s truly outstanding. It’s gritty, it’s punchy, sustain is so important and it’s certainly got all that."

User questions & answers
Question: | what are its dimensions and does it come with a power supply |
Answer: | The combo is 18" high, 15.7" wide, and 13.2" deep. It comes with a standard 120VAC power cable. |
Question: | What is the speaker wattage of the max 100? Is it a100 watt |
Answer: | No, it’s a 50 watt. |
Question: | What is the weight of this amp? Specs say 1 lb, but that's highly unlikely |
Answer: | Very unlikely. ;) Even so, I double-checked the weight on my bathroom scale. It's a VERY manageable 25 pounds (or 11.3 kilograms). |
Question: | Can a microphone also be hook up for playing the guitar and sing at the same time? Thanks |
Answer: | Short answer: Maybe. Longer answer: There's an Auxiliary Input (3.5mm) that's normally for audio input from an iPod/phone/external music source. You might be able to plug in a microphone with a 3.5mm plug, but I don't know if the signal would be strong enough to complete with the bass. You might be better off dropping Peavey a note and getting your answer direct from them. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use my acoustic I rig mic with this? With the headphone type plug |
Answer: | there is an AUX IN jack that takes a 3.5mm plug. Yes. |
Question: | Will this sound good if I’m Playin piano using my midi keyboard |
Answer: | Depends on how good your speakers are in your keyboard if your keyboard has stereo speakers they're probably going to sound better but as far as a little amp goes it's adequate |
Question: | what kind of cable do I need to connect to my Uke |
Answer: | Dear JOYO fan or user, it required a normal audio cable connect to Uke. thanks for your question. |
Question: | Can a microphone be plugged into this amplifier |
Answer: | Yes but you'll want to be aware that the amp takes a 1/4" plug, so you might need a converter. I also would be cautious if the mic requires phantom power. The amp doesnt provide it, so you'll need to get it elsewhere. If you have a mic preamp, then you could also plug the mic into that and the preamp into the aux jack, which would allow you to still be able to plug a guitar into the 1/4" jack. However be aware that the aux jack doesnt go through the volume/tone/gain, so you'll need to provide that elsewhere (which is why a preamp would be helpful) |

Question: | Can this be used during a parade for portable usage |
Answer: | It is better used inside, but it can be used for a parade. You may have to mic it. Not sure if it would be loud enough without. |
Question: | Please tell me, does the ⅛" imput socket on the amplifier's top (described as an MP3 input "for jamming along") accept and play an analog/mic signal |
Answer: | No, it's line level input socket. You can't connect microphone directly to the line level input socket. You need a microphone pre-amplifier for that. As soon your microphone is amplified ( using an optional mic pre-amp) you can connect it to that "MP3" line level socket. |
Question: | Really? david bowie's album name and logo? how's this possible |
Answer: | We love Bowie too, but Blackstar started in 2007, long before his 2016 album. |
Question: | I have a question. The model Specified on this page is for bass guitar |
Answer: | Yes, it is specified for bass guitar. The compressor is useful for something this small being used for bass and actually at low volumes reproduces low B better than expected. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a good choice for electroacoustic instruments, keyboards, etc.? I've been told guitar-specific amps can "color" the sound too much |
Answer: | This is made specifically for guitars. If you use an acoustic it won't sound much like an acoustic would on its own. That said, dont let it stop you from experimentation. That is the whole point of music! |
Question: | can i use peddles or effects with this amp |
Answer: | Yes. Its a great sounding practice amp, the 6" speaker can only handle so much. But you can use pedals with it. |
Question: | does it come with the cable needed to plug it into the wall |
Answer: | Yes, it comes with a power cable. Great practice amp. |
Question: | Does this have clean or dirty |
Answer: | One channel so you have to adjust to get either clean or dirty. |

Answer: | Ours is working fine, ask to return to Amazon for refund or replacement |
Question: | This keeps coming up as a bass amp. Is it ok to use with my bass guitar |
Answer: | playing bass at lower volumes would probably be ok. cranking it up would shred it. great little guitar amp though. |
Question: | anyone else experiencing a very loud buzzzz when you plug in |
Answer: | You ALWAYS GET BUZZ if you plug in after turning on any amp. There is an interval when you insert the plug that one circuit—the one to ground—isn’t connected. It’s momentary. You should ALWAYS PLUG IN BEFORE turning the amp on. Now, if it continues to buzz after the cable is fully plugged in, try another cable. If the buzzing stops, that first cable has a broken connection on the ground side. This is generally caused by the leads inside the plug breaking off where they’re soldered. Unscrew the plug at both ends and check for loose, unattached wires. If you find one, re-solder it. If no broken connections are found, the break is somewhere inside the cable. Unsolder and keep the plugs and toss the cable. If after inserting a second cable, the buzzing continues, the problem is inside the amp circuitry. Return it, or toss it and get a better one next time. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why is the 75 watt cheaper than the 50 watt |
Answer: | Convenience and less weight even though you may not notice a volume difference. |
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | Didn't it is on Hartke product page |
Question: | why would I need both graphic eq and tone controls |
Answer: | The graphic EQ is very useful for dialing in certain notch frequencies, whereas the 3-band parametric EQ is a very smooth overall tonal control. Think of the Hi/Mid/Low EQ as a paint roller to get the foundation of your tone and the graphic as a fine-tip brush. If this was helpful, please consider purchasing from us (pixelproaudio on Amazon).
